I am not following this whole discussion. I currently weigh 200 lbs. Supposedly my daily calorie need to maintain this weight (without exercise) is about 2600 calories. That essentially is just to breath and function. I decide to watch my calories and strive to take in just 2000 calories per day ... a deficit of 600. That…

Thanks for feedback. Like Muscleflex70, I like feeling a little sore ... makes me feel like I'm challenging myself and improving. Think I'll try doing some different exercises and see how that goes.

Every Thanksgiving I go to Ocean City, MD and walk the boardwalk which makes for a 5 mile circuit. I try to get started at sunrise so I can see sun come up over the ocean. Should be great weather this year.

Try Craigslist first. Two weeks ago I bought a nice Pro-Form treadmill for $100 delivered to my home. Works great! A lot of people buy treadmills and stop using them after a month or so. Then they just take up space or serve as a clothes rack. The one I bought sold new for about $600 and was listed for $200. Owners were…

Like you I could not afford a Concept 2 rower. I purchased a Stamina Bodytrac Glider 1050 off of Amazon and it suits my needs just fine. I'm using it 3-4 times a week and have had no issues. Very quiet machine. You definitely will get a good workout. I've spent a lot of time looking at Youtube videos trying to learn the…

Check to see if the type of cycling entered in the app was changed. That can really impact the projected calorie count.

Check Craigslist, good will stores, flea markets, and such. Lots of people buy stuff and never use it except to hang clothes on. Eventually they need the room and sell it cheap or give it away. I've got a whole room full of good stuff - exercise bike, treadmill, elliptical, etc. If you live around the mid-atlantic I could…

Thanks for the link. I decided to go with the rower and just ordered it. Many sources claim it is a good machine for an overall full-body workout, plus you have the cardio impact. Probably better for my weight loss goal. Thanks to everyone for their comments.

I'm sure I could resell them but would most likely take a loss. But then most of the equipment I have now was used and I bought it cheap - works fine. Think I'll do a little research to see what muscle groups these machines target and figure out which ones my current workouts are missing. Not trying to become Superman but…

I'm in. Walking primarily.

Love to join the Challenge. I want to try and log 100 miles in one month of walking.

Mystery solved. I took the elliptical apart this aftenoon. The problem is the magnet was too close to the flywheel which increased the resistance. This space is supposed to be controlled by a small motor which apparently is not working. I manually repositioned the magnet, and now I can at least use the machine and not die…

Trying to lose some weight and get in better shape. Would love to connect with new friends, especially all the baby boomers out there. I'm 62, widowed, and live on the east coast. Thanks!

OK. Thanks for the replies. I'll just keep at it. I would really like to get to a point where I could start jogging but I've got a long way to go ... sorry to say. Once I get my weight down and not have to carry so much around I'll give that a try too. Back to the elliptical ... think I'll start referring to it as the…

I would also like to join this challenge. Want to be at 100 lbs by Christmas - 22 lbs away!

I looked all over the internet for good motivational posters and saw none I liked. Then I remembered that Walmart & Walgreens can create wall posters from your prints. Last summer my son had taken a picture of me outside with my 3 yr old grand-daughter and I was totally discusted with how I looked ... what a slob! So last…

I'm in. I've been doing an exercise bike for about a week. Trying to do 5 miles every day and increase the pedal pressure by a factor of 1 each day (scale from 1-20). Long term goal is to be able to bike to the beach (summer) which is about 30 miles away. Did it 25 years ago but that was 25 YEARS AGO!!!

I've been widowed for 10 years and haven't even considered dating. I'm 61 and guess I'm accustomed to doing V-day solo. But you young folks REALLY should be looking for that special someone ... they ARE out there!
