Good luck... when you come to NY stop using "stone" for your weight! :) For us Americans it gets confusing. I know a lot of people will tell you not to get into shape for someone else, and that you can only do it for you. I agree with that. However, if that is what finally pushed you over the top and that b/c of that YOU…

If you can not be around MFP and don't have a smartphone (she is right the app is amazing!) then write in a log everything you eat (yes everything) and when you are around the Internet fill in your log. It does help keep you accountable. I also agree with the idea of looking at your week as a whole... if you have one bad…

If you are at a plateau everything stated earlier is good advice. Around the holidays many people also tend to "cheat" a little... even if it is a piece of candy here and there it adds up. I have seen plenty of people sabotage their weight loss that way. If that is not the issue then check your food intake, yes drink water…

This may sound stupid, but are there other kinds/brands at your gym? I know when I used to go to the gym there were certain brands that I could not use. I am 6'1" and my knees would hit the front post (annoying). Some brands and set ups just felt better.

I have read several different "takes" on this. There is not a generally agreed upon amount of mono/poly unsaturated fats that are recommended for a diet. What I try to do is simple. Aim for a goal amount of fats and try to make the majority of them the "healthy" fats. Eating fats does not make you fat at all and in fact it…

I really like PB2... either the regular or the chocolate/peanut butter. I do 2 things with it. 1. I will mix it with water (per instructions) and use it as regular peanut butter. It tastes good and if you are counting calories or are a bit short for one day, it helps a lot vs. real peanut butter. 2. I will mix it in with…

I have several female friends who also do Zumba, and I know if you are looking for a program that you could do at home Beachbody.com sells Hip Hop Abs which is based on dancing. The main "instructor" if you will, is Shaun T who also does Insanity.

I also agree... Body Fortress is just fine. If you want to spend a dollar or two more get the Body Fortress Whey Isolate. The chocolate and chocolate/peanut butter taste great. I have also used Target brand. It is about the same price and in my opinion tastes better than any other chocolate protein powder I have tried.

Use MFP as a guide... don't live and die by it. Try the caloric intake they suggest for a week and see how your weight is and see how you feel. Aim for 1-3 lbs lost per week. If you lose more than that in the first week then up your calories. If you are constantly starving and afraid you will start cheating on your diet…

If you are happy with your results on the scale, but more importantly in the mirror, then you are doing fine. Just b/c you decide to try a change in caloric intake does not mean you need to go crazy. Try to add as little as 100 calories per day for a week or two. See how that affects your weight loss and how you feel.…

Hi, it is hard to eat too much protein. I can't see your food journal, but what are your daily macro counts (fat, carbs, and protein)? Protein helps to build muscle. When I first signed up for MFP I noticed that they were way underestimating the amount of protein and have heard many others say that as well. Depending on…

I agree, get a workout in as early as you can. If you are eating in your down and free time stop thinking about it and workout instead. After a good workout I too do not want to eat garbage food. What others have said is also soooo true... don't beat yourself up if you slip up. It is natural and hey, you have to live a…

Good luck! The hardest step is the one you already took by joining and committing to get healthier. Keep with it and keep moving forward!

I generally only use a scale when I am cutting weight, usually for summer. I, like many others can eyeball things rather well but to know that I am right on with my macros I always use a scale. When I first started getting into fitness and started my weight loss journey I used the scale to be accurate so I would not over…

If you are always snacking at work I have a couple tips. One is if the snacks are bad just don't have them around you. Clean out you desk or office space. If your snacks are "healthy" as one other person mentioned make sure that you are tracking them b/c even with "healthy" snacks, if you have too many of them you will…

1. Companies who prey on people with advertising that does not tell the whole story. They show pictures of really hot women and guys with perfect bodies holding a tub of protein powder and they insinuate that all you have to do is take the product to get like the fitness models (that's what they are). People!, the…

If you are okay with daily changes then go ahead and weigh as often as you want. Generally if you weigh yourself once a week on the same day each week at the same time (when you get up) you will have the best judge of what your "true" weight is. That said, if the night before you go to a party and eat a lot of have some…

I agree with the idea that they are generally mainly caffeine. The biggest thing is to look at the word "supplement." That is exactly what they are... an addition to your diet. Without a good diet that is spot on and not cheated on, all of the supplements in the world will do little for you other than lighten your bank. A…

I agree with wnbrice but also be realistic. When anyone loses a large amount of weight, sometimes there is only so much your body can do. At some point it may come down to surgery to truely get rid of all of the excess skin. This is a topic of weight loss that many people don't talk about and many shows like The Biggest…

Insanity is awesome to help lose weight but as with any exercise program it is a small part (20% ish IMO) to your weight loss goals. The kitchen is where it is done. I would re-evaluate your diet. What is your marco. break down (fat, carb, protein) per day? Then you can check your sources, especially of carbs. If you are…

Insanity DVD's really are amazing. Even if you don't want to do the whole plan, they are great to mix in once or twice a week and you will need nothing else. I have friends/family who swear by the Jillian Michael's DVD's as well and I know from experience that Bob Harper's core/ab DVD is a killer.

If I were you I would ask to speak with a personal trainer and have them set you up on a plan. It may cost some money, but it will be much easier for someone to help you who can see you, evaluate your goals and diet with you and also be in the gym to help you as you go along. Even after you get a workout written down it…

I agree that you are doing great. A few tips: 1. Don't let the scale dictate your life. It is just a number. Rely on pictures (as someone said) but also the mirror and your clothing. How does it fit? 2. Don't skip weights and ab workouts. Muscle weighs more than fat AND burns more calories. If you build up for abdominal…

You must be the one person who has a hard time filling up their carbs :) First on protein, don't worry if you are a little over. As far as fats go, I too am usually low on fats so I just use creamy peanut butter. I will put it in a protein shake or on whole wheat bread. It has high fat content but it is filled with the…

Good luck with your goals and it is good to see that you set up smaller goals along the way. To answer your question in a basic sense, especially at the start don't get caught up in different thoughts on the metabolism and "this" diet or "that" diet. Just get started. After you start reaching your goals you may notice that…

If you are new (or new again) to working out, especially running where your body will have to adapt to the stress on it, take days off when you feel like you need them. Depending on my goals I will schedule days off but if ever I feel like my body needs rest I will take the day off. Right now I work out 6 days a week,…
-
The answer is... it depends.?.? What is your goal? Do you want to lose weight? Tone up? Even gain weight or size? Also how often are you working out? In general I would say that you may want to focus your workouts a bit more, so instead of doing everything, everyday, maybe make certain days more dedicated towards weights,…

I agree with justsomerando on the whole British vocabulary, I was thinking the same thing. Your goal is possible but as others have said don't get dicouraged if you hit a plateau along the way. Make sure that you take the time to monitor your workouts and change them up. You body will get used to the same workout…
