  • I've lost 15 lbs. since starting a healthier eating plan at the beginning of Dec. I also quit taking Prilosec which I had been taking daily for 20 yrs. I take two capfuls of apple cider vinegar (with mother) in 8 oz. of water every morning and sometimes up to 3 times a day. Research seems to show that heartburn is a lack…
  • OMGosh! You guys are awesome! Thanks for the really great, detailed info. You have given me a lot of info to work with (and some words I will have to look up! haha).
  • I did see a dietician in a seminar when I was first diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. My primary physician set it up for me. Maybe I need to see if further classes or meetings are available. I keep assuming it will be costly to see a nutritionist or dietician but I really haven't checked. I'll check back with my physician…
  • Great links! I am going to look at those sites further. I love info like that! The plot thickens....
  • Thanks for the simple numbers. Diet and nutrition is often mind boggling for the average person who has been brain washed by the commercial food industry. I have heard some diabetics talking about counting carbs instead of calories but I haven't had any schooling in the technique. I will watch for that 40% to 50% carbs…
  • Thanks for the info. I will start paying more attention to the sugar per portion. Less than three grams per serving sounds much lower than I have been ingesting. Sounds like it would work well. I'm still fighting sugar cravings/addiction so I will have to work on it. Thanks.
  • I am a Type 2 diabetic on oral medication. As expected my A1C numbers are increasing as my weight increases. I want to make sure that I avoid having to take insulin. Hunger feelings and sugar cravings are my biggest foes! Thanks for the great info.
  • Old fashioned oat meal cooked very slowly in water has a more whole grain texture. The instant or quick cooking oats tend to have that generic slime texture. I like cinnamon and honey in my oats. I've even cooked dried cranberries in it and it was great. Another favorite to add after cooking is diced banana. Oats keep me…
  • I agree with all the great posts and replies and would like to add a thought. I also have loved ones who present me with little tokens of love and thoughtfulness in the form of food and sweets. I try to keep in mind that they are not purposefully sabotaging my health and diet. (Think positive!) They are showing me that…
  • Obesity due to a more sedentary lifestyle. Modern technologies allow people to get more done without as much effort which leads to bigger waistlines. I think super sizing comes as a advertising lure to satisy an already obese population. Super sizing also appeals people's sense of econony (getting more for a good price).…
  • Super good job! You look fabulous! Thank you for being an inspiration as I start my weight loss plan.( From the look of your picture, I would say that you are more in the range of toning muscle instead of losing weight? I would be happy with your current size for myself!) Keep up the good work.
  • I really enjoyed your post. No fluff or advertising. No BS. Thanks for taking the time to share your information.
  • Just read in a women's magazine that even diet soda is bad for your kidneys due to the phosphorus they contain. My brother just had a kidney transplant after being on dialysis for 2 years and he has had to watch out our for phosphorus content for that reason. (The kidney problems started from diabetes initially.)
  • You have learned well, grasshopper! Keep up the good work. Thanks for sharing.
  • Could it be a lack of sunshine? My doctor says S.A.D. has been more prevelant this year due to the rainy, dreary weather. It is an actual condition which makes people depressed and lethargic. Don't beat yourself up for taking a breather. Listen or watch your favorite comedian. Put on your favorite upbeat tunes and wiggle a…
  • I would think a week after TOM would be a good time. Water weight should be gone by then. Make sure you do weight and measurements before PMS week when you may be tempted to consume more salt or junk than normal. Regarding the sudden weight loss, I have been surprised the find I had lost weight when I thought I had cheated…
  • It will be OK! I started Jan 1st and I have went over on my calories almost every day. The good news is that I have still lost 3.5 lbs so far. I have been eating a whole lot better than I used to so I am making progress. I have never been able to make an effort to lose weight before so I am thrilled. You will learn more…
  • We put a large stone floor tile under our scale since it does sit on a carpeted floor. Seems to work fine. I only weigh in the morning before coffee, naked! Any other time of the day it would not be accurate.
  • I am so glad for you. People who are trying to lose weight will appreciate your achievement and won't mind hearing about it (over and over lol). I cheat a lot and go over my calories from 300 to 500 or more per day, a lot of days. I haven't been eating "diet" food but have been watching my portions and trying to exercise…
  • My husband likes really plump women so I am almost scared to lose weight also. Maybe you could just work on being very toned instead of losing weight. You could just maintain your current weight but firm up.
  • What about a Weii game system? The whole family could play and he would still officially be getting his computer fix. It could even be a party game when friends come over. I don't have one but from the looks of the ads, you can find a huge variety of games. Does he like a particular sport or has he ever participated in a…
  • Wow! That is super. I was excited that I had lost 1.9 pounds in a week. You are doing sooo good! I have never been able to lose (but once years ago) before MFP. My doctor says that if he can get his patients to keep a food journal, it is half the battle. Most people are so clueless as to their calorie intake. Keep up the…
  • I wouldn't plan on a cheat day but I wouldn't beat myself up for cheating a LITTLE bit. I have just started MFP a week ago but it took me 18 years to grown to the size I am. I find that I am having to reeducate myselft on calories and nutrition and MFP is a huge help. I am not in a hurry to lose my weight. I acquired it a…
