  • Not at all a waste. use your HRM when running. It's a useful piece of gear. Weight training is important when trying to lose weight. If for no other reason than to maintain your muscle mass. It's extra work for sure, but hardly worthless.
  • Likely more attributable to our difference in gender and size than anything else. This is one of the biggest problems with using MFP estimates (or any other general calorie estimates for that matter) to track your fitness. 9/10 times they are going to be significantly off. As a rule of thumb, I only report workouts that I…
  • Really depends on intensity. I average a burn of roughly 530 calories in the process of a 29 or 30min 5k. Walking for that same time I will only burn around 200. For reference, I also typically burn about 1000 in the course of an hour on a treadmill at a 15% (max) incline at 4mph.
  • For what it's worth, I rarely cook (literally once a week). It's not that big a deal. :)
  • Always a good idea to rest if you're feeling that sort of pain. There is nothing wrong with taking a day off, eating plenty of protein in otherwise light meals (to meet your calorie goals). Let those muscles repair and run back at it the next day. There is absolutely no reason to risk injury (if the pain is that intense)…
  • Thanks for the replies. My route is rather complex, so not the easiest to remember. I will take a look at runkeeper though. miCoach is a big let down in this area.
  • I find one of the real problems is that we set stretch goals for ourselves. It's all fine and dandy (even commendable) that your ideal weight loss is 105 pounds, but if you constantly measure your progress against that big audacious goal, you will always feel let down and impatient. For example, I set small goals for…
  • I find the MFP estimates are generally low. My BMR is around 2300, yet MFP was suggesting a calorie goal of 1300 when set to 2lbs per week. I ate at that, and lost weight, but it didn't seem all that sustainable, and I felt I was losing muscle mass. Drop er down to 1lb a week, log everything and always overestimate (we…
  • I'm all about the Special-K. I have the red berries, vanilla almond, oats & honey, and Fruit & Yogurt varieties in my pantry. I like to mix it up. That said, if you're aiming to avoid preservatives, Sally's is a good option. For me though, the extra price is definitely not worth avoiding GMOs or preservatives.
  • Out of all the responses, you keyed in on that? It's either sarcasm or he's trolling. 4 pounds is perfectly normal. i have the same thing happen to me every couple weeks. Likely water weight caused by sodium intake. Keep doing what you're doing.
  • I suppose it depends on the person. I don't track calories burned during strength training, as it really is a spotty estimate at best. When it comes to cardio, my goal was 700calories/hour, which I recently increased to 1000, as I'm training for Color Me Rad. I find my treadmill and elliptical readouts are pretty on par…
  • Moderation. Similar to my advice for normal soda, moderation is the key. Drinking a can a day is probably not a good idea, but every few days won't kill you. From what I've seen, you're far more likely to be successful if you don't cut out the things you love cold turkey. I'm not suggesting a "cheat day" or anything like…
  • Keto diets are difficult. You would deal with what they call the Keto flu as your body adjusts, and it's apparently equally as difficult to adjust back. If your body is used to taking in carbs, there is no urgent necessity to stop. As has been said here, just aim for a caloric deficit, make healthy choices, and the weight…
  • I think most of the users are pretty quiet here. Male & Female. There just happens to be far more females, making the number active in the forums appear overwhelming. As you see here, there are plenty of us males here. Feel free to add me up.
  • I'm not sure that's what she was actually saying. It is entirely possible to include vegan meals in a non-vegan or even non-vegetarian diet. I routinely eat vegan meals, but I also eat meals that contain a massive steak. It's all in the context in which she used the word. No need to attack.
