  • Sorry to hear you are struggling too. I know how u feel I have been the same since doing London & summoning up motivation is hard!! Think we just have to stick with it & hope it passes!! Like the comment on here about 3 runs a week of less than an hour & strength training. I may try that & hope it kick starts the running &…
  • Hi I run & cycle although I prefer running but I enter events for both. I'm not fast at either!!! I have run up to marathon level & cycled up to 60mi. Would like to try a duathlon but not sure how good my coordination & organisation would be!!! Feel free to add me - am based in UK. :flowerforyou:
  • ^^^^ This!!! If your not eating enough your body will panic. A few pieces of fruit & a low carb dinner doesn't sound enough to me. I would not have the energy to go to the gym let alone run 3 miles a day on this intake!!
  • My hubby is asthmatic & he says if he dropped the exercise it would be worse. He runs & manages his breathing. He takes serotide twice a day as a preventer & ventalin as & when he needs it as a reliever. Worth going to your doctors & asking if there's a better alternative for you. He had to ask for serotide (he was using…
  • If there's nothing medically wrong it could be this ^^ And/Or u could be eating the wrong foods but without seeing ur diary it's hard to comment. Make sure u are eating enough & all or at least half ur exercise cals.
  • I workout in the evenings so wash it the next morning so that's every day in the week, then once at weekend. Keep it bob length as easier & use a good quality colour shampoo/conditioner from hairdressers. Don't use products except serum & shine spray. Tried dry shampoo but hated it - just made my hair straw like to touch &…
  • Did VLM - April 3 Peaks 24hr Challenge (hiking up / run down!) - May Great South Run - 10mi - October Norwich Half Marathon - November Do fancy doing one of these Grimm ones I keep hearing about as they sound fun too. Dont know much about them so must google!! DF :flowerforyou:
  • "Strategy to tackle dog fouling" About time!!!!! 
  • ^^ agree with this. I did my first marathon last month (London) & enjoyed it so much I put in for next years!! Don't think I will get in but I will puck another at similar time that's easy to get into. It's my biggest fitness achievement & still buzzing from it!! Just make sure u get ur training right & also go & get ur…
  • Hi I have done the running with a faster friend & that is pretty good. I had started to do fartlek's just before my marathon & used timed intervals or lamp posts to do different speeds. I am going to carry on with that as think it's easy to stick to. I am a slow runner to am hoping this will help speed me up a tad!!! I…
  • Good for u!!!! I drink but hardly at all - perhaps one or two over a weekend but not every weekend. I am quite fussy about what alcohol I will drink too & most of it I don't like the taste. When I am training for an event I don't drink at all. I drank more when I was younger but not to excess as it never really interested…
  • ^^ I am the same as this. I just wipe mine over with a small damp towel so don't get water in it & handwash the strap part on it's own. :flowerforyou:
  • You are running!! Don't worry about the speed either. I am 44 & run at between 10:30 & 13:00 min/mi depending on the distance. Not fast by any means. I have completed various 5k, 2 x 10k, 2 x half marathon & 1 x marathon. Although I am slower than lots of people I still class myself as a "runner" & woe betide anyone that…
  • How do I work out what my lean body mass is?
  • Hubby has been to all my longer races & some of the 5ks. It is nice to have him at the finish line. I used to support him a few years ago when he did triathlons & most weren't local - I didn't do any real form of exercise at the time so had no idea how it all worked or felt but still offered support. Since I have been…
  • I have accepted requests from people with no message but I much prefer to have a message so you know what common ground you have. I think it's polite & I always do it. It just makes supporting & motivating so much easier!!
  • I carry tissues all the time & running is no exception!! Tho if just going out up to an hour I wouldn't bother. Public loos & portaloos in races notoriously don't have paper so that's why!!
  • I weigh 140lb & I burn off around 102 cals per mile. Bit more if I run at a faster pace. I wouldn't rely on cals burned by MFP as they overestimate I have found. Either get an HRM or smartphone app. :flowerforyou:
  • Hi I am the same height as you & when I started on here I weighed 154lb so also similar to you. It took me 6 months to lose 18lb last year & a few inches. It does take time if u want to keep it off in the long term. I know it's frustrating & I was the same last year. Accept that this is a life change & give ur body time to…
  • Agree with Berry. Start slowly & run / walk. Gradually build up to more minutes running than walking & don't start off too quick as that's so easy to do. Keep at it and it WILL happen - it's hard but your perseverance will pay off!! I started running regularly End of 2009 when I could only run (with a lot of moaning!!) the…
  • OMG this little guy is so cute!!!! Sorry completely off base there but I also live in a rural part of the UK & don't carry any protection. Pepper spray is illegal over here & I wouldn't want to carry it anyway. I don't agree with carrying weapons but that's how most people in the UK are brought up. I say most as there are…
  • Big well done!!! And yes finishing is the most important thing!! :flowerforyou:

  • ^^^ this otherwise u won't stick to it!! I actually really rate spinning, cycling & running - love them all!!! :flowerforyou:
  • Wow thanx for the response MFP's - and good luck to u all on ur future fitness goals!!! :flowerforyou:
  • My support team consisted of hubby, plus 3 friends all of which have run a marathon (the 3 friends several!!) In fact I beat my hubby's time & he was half my age when he did his marathon - woo hoo!!!
  • Well done on also doing London!!! Did you manage to miss the rain?! I got wet in the last half a mile or so!!! Am feeling fine now though my knee is still a bit sore - hoping it will wear off if I have a couple weeks off from running & get new trainers. Hope u manage to get ur knee & ligaments better real soon
  • I've been spinning every week for about 2/3 years now so obviously I love it!! Like most forms of exercise some will like it & some won't so would give it a go & form ur own opinion! Never been strapped into a bike nor ever seen this happen to anyone else! Certainly wouldn't rate any instructor that did that!!! Agree with…
  • Exercise has been my saviour!!! The gym & cycling but chiefly running!! I have also made friends through the gym classes. I put most of my weight on through emotional eating & not being happy with myself. I have started to look at food more positively as fuel for my running etc so think about what I am actually eating…
  • I am running VLM this year!! My first marathon!! Two years ago I took up running on a regular basis & going to the gym. It was really hard at first but it soon stopped hurting as much & I could run further for longer. I didn't follow any program just did it myself & on advise from running friends. Before this I couldn't…
  • I do a class once a week and do sometimes get bruises on my wrists & upper arms from the bigger bells. I bruise easily anyway so don't really worry about it. I have found wearing sweatbands on my wrists helps there - when I remember to take them!!! I am not the only one in the class like this & we do compare sometimes!!…
