Change into a dry shirt when you notice the one you're wearing soaking through with sweat.

It can be a challenge. For some people 15 lbs yields a truly remarkable transformation immediately apparent in their before and after pictures, and it can create unrealistic expectations for people who lose weight differently. Remarkably, I don't think I've lost an inch off my belly in 48 lbs, and if I look at my own…

I sort of do, although I intentionally underestimated my likely activity at my goal weight to keep some deficit there until the end. My daily calorie goal is set at my sedentary TDEE for my goal weight, although in reality I hope I'm doing more than just sitting around. So I will likely still have to add a few hundred…

Somebody please share the magic formula with me, because it very clearly is NOT heavy lifting three days a week and eating 1g of protein per pound of LBM or 0.7g per pound of total body weight every day in chicken, salmon, egg whites, walnuts, almonds, milk, and yogurt every day (in addition to oatmeal, orange juice,…

My brother is getting married in August. My great nightmare is being immortalized as The Fat Guy in the wedding pictures. :ohwell:

Schindler's List and Hotel Rwanda feel like the same movie to me, but yes, both are heartbreaking. Persepolis Pan's Labyrinth Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (incredibly heartbreaking premise) Donnie Darko (awesome, wonderful, and heartbreaking at the same time) Some heartbreaking movies whose book form is (or should…

A lot of people have had success with C25K. When I tried to get going a month ago I couldn't seem to get anywhere with it, unfortunately. Not everyone is physically able to start in the same place of course. As I'm only able to jog for 15 seconds at a time before I'm rolling on the ground grabbing my burning knees and…

I think of it more in terms of rewards for fitness goals which happen to be inexorably linked with my weight and overall health: I started getting into mountain hiking back in my 20s (what I did was not technical enough to be called climbing/mountaineering IMO). The very little I did I enjoyed, both the activity itself and…

I was 3.6 lbs heavier when I woke up this morning than I was at then exact same time yesterday. So much for "You didn't put it on overnight." You can't let a day or a week or even a month (depending on how fast you think you should be losing) get to you. I ate a packet of oatmeal with some walnuts, drank some milk…

Hmmm... tough call. Pizza and burgers would be my staples if I weren't eating fish and chicken salads almost every day, but I do enjoy a number of ethnic dishes. My all time favorite meal might be empanadas and grilled chicken with rice from Sophie's Cuban Cuisine in New York City ... drenched in their insanely addictive…

:flowerforyou: I used to eat a package every day, either for breakfast or an evening snack.

So much depends on what you were eating before and what you're eating now (including the quality you're looking for, whether it's organic or not, and so on), who else you're feeding, as well as your daily calorie needs. I rarely ate out much anyway, so I escaped a lot of overpriced meals even when I was eating poorly.…

At age 59 my dad lost 80+ pounds eating a package of Oreos a day in addition to about four cups of potato chips, a package of Pop Tarts, salted cashews, and Five Guys or Taco Bell for dinner. The guy has never seen a fruit or vegetable he liked except maybe oranges. He takes no vitamins or supplements. He got a jump start…

Whoa....at 6'5 334, a 32-year-old male has a BMR of around 2900 calories. That means your body burns 2900 calories every day doing absolutely nothing (that number will drop as you lose weight; at a "normal" BMI at 6'5" 210 it would be around 2100). Over the long term it needs those calories just to function as "intended".…

I started eating a serving of almonds almost daily when I revamped my diet. As far as eating a whole cup of them, there are probably more satisfying and well-rounded ways to budget 800 calories, but eaten in "reasonable" amounts almonds can certainly be a healthy part of one's diet AFAIK. Eat them slowly -- one at a time…

I read something similar a few weeks ago OP. I absolutely love cinnamon, but most of the cinnamon-y stuff I used to eat (muffins, toast, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Pop Tarts, etc.) weren't doing me any favors. Like Courtney, I now put some cinnamon in my yogurt most days of the week.

This reminds me of a frozen pizza serving I've seen: "1/5 of a pizza". Who the heck cuts their pizza into fifths?! LOL

I have a bag of croutons in the cabinet... serving size 2 tablespoons. How are you supposed to measure that when most of the croutons won't even fit properly in an actual tablespoon? Why not just say "serving size about 2 croutons"? On top of that -- while it's obviously healthier to go with none anyway -- what kind of…

Wow, some pretty emotional stories here. Good on all of you! For me it was a confluence of a few rather mundane causes that added up to a kick in the butt: I'm looking to switch jobs and can't fit into my suits (or any of my good dress clothes for that matter); my sister kept bugging me about doing the Great Saunter around…

I just started ... literally completed day three of level one minutes ago. What I like is that it's a different kind of exercise than I had been doing, so I can "feel it" in ways different than adding more weight to strength training exercises or walking a little faster and/or longer. It kicked my butt today much worse…

When I got out into the working world after college, I started making money, and there was nobody around (parents, girlfriend, coaches) to encourage me to make responsible lifestyle decisions. I was determined to spend my time and money on things that I enjoyed. That included food I enjoyed eating and going out in the city…

A couple months ago I fell asleep in my comfy chair with the TV on, and when I woke up there was informercial on for one of those home workout programs (might have been P90X, but it doesn't matter). One of the shills related one of the most personally motivating ideas I've come across. I don't believe in fate, but it was a…

I've lost 30 pounds since Christmas and am already starting to look quite a bit better than when I started -- I plateaued on the scale this week, but will likely ditch my second pair of jeans by the weekend for falling off my waist -- but nobody said anything until a couple days ago after I told my brother and his…

This thread is awesome. Thanks to everyone for sharing. It means a lot to the people who have just begun their journey, and it's great to see what dedication can do for *real* people. It will still be awhile before I get there myself, but I'm looking forward to it. I started at 337 and dropped 30-32 pounds in about 8 weeks…
