  • I had a hard time determining my goal weight. I lost over 200 pounds and was never really at a healthy weight as an adult until a few years ago. I'm 6-0 in height (male). I got down to 188 pounds but feel weak and had some loose skin. I worked the last few years to build lean muscle and now I feel comfortable at 200 - 210…
  • Any exercise you can get is good. For the best results, consider doing both cardio and strength training
  • I donated my old fat clothes. I lost over 200 pounds and had to get an entirely new wardrobe. Even some of my old shoes didn't fit. I just kept my old belt as a reminder. It doesn't take up much space. I put it on a few times a year to help me stay motivated.
  • I use to hate running but I enjoy a 2-3 mile run a few times a week. I still enjoy walking, swimming, and lifting weights, but a good run pushing myself helps me to stay in shape. There is a nice 1 mile trail by the river near my house and I go there 3-5 times a week and get about 3-6 miles, depending on the day.
  • Lift weights, swimming, and losing the weight slowly (1-2 pounds a week) help a lot. Make sure to drink lots of water. Make sure to do leg exercises when lifting (e.g. squats, lunges, etc.).
  • 40 year old male Height: 6-0 starting weight: 405 current weight: 205 goal weight range: 195-205 I got down to 189 but felt really weak and lost a lot of muscle after losing 200+ pounds. In the last year, I have put on about 15 pounds doing a slow bulk to add more lean body mass. I can lift more while running and swimming…
  • I have maintained my goal weight for over 2 years now. I lost over 200 pounds and now I am focused on improving my overall fitness and getting more toned. I haven't weighed myself since my last doctor's appointment about 8 months ago. I used to be obsessed with weighing myself several times a day but for me, it was not…
  • That's awesome. My 5k run time is now at around 26 minutes. If you do a lot of running, consider getting some good running shoes.
  • That's great! Just be careful with running because it can cause injuries and is hard on the joints.
  • I do a lot of hiking. I did hiking/walking, swimming, and lifting weights to lose 200+ pounds. Hiking can be a great exercise. If you go hiking in the backwoods alone or even with a friend, make sure to let someone know where are going and when you expect to be back. If you go hiking in the back country, make sure to also…

  • My wife and I go to the mall almost every weekday. It's open about an hour before the stores open. We enjoy mall walking with our baby in the stroller. There are some old people and some moms with strollers who are also regular mall walkers. We go for about an hour each day. It's nice because it's smooth for the stroller…
  • I also eat a lot of the same food and quantities during the weekdays. It helps with my routine. I try to have some variation but when I was losing weight, I found this helped me a lot. Now that I am in maintenance mode, I allow myself to splurge a little more on the weekends. One suggestion I have is to make sure you add…
  • Eu falo português. Eu morei in Sao Paul por dois anos.
  • I had my annual physical exam with my doctor. He said I am in great health and he couldn't find any issues. My blood pressure and other vitals are excellent. I had a cholesterol test last year and he didn't see the need to do another one. Life is good at age 40.
  • Way to go! I lost over 200 pounds and had to get an entirely new wardrobe. I eventually donated my old clothes to charity. That was a very emotional experience for me to get rid of my fat clothes.
  • I used walking and swimming as my main forms of exercise to lose my first 100 pounds. I then added strength training but I still consistently try to walk 30-60 minutes daily for maintenance. I was walking over 2 hours a day when I was working on my weight loss but I hit my goal. Walking is great because it's low impact. My…
  • I started at 405 pounds in Feb. 2012. In September 2013, I hit 200 pounds which is more than 50% weight loss. I have maintained at 195-205 pounds for over a year now. It's possible to lose more than 50% of your weight but it takes time, patience, hard work, and a lot of self control.
  • Check out the books and articles by Greg McBride. He lost over 250 pounds and kept it off for more than 10 years. I have lost over 200 pounds and kept it off for 14 months and counting.
  • My mother had a BMI in the 30-35 range and wanted to get WLS but she didn't qualify. She purposely gained weight to get her BMI over 35 to qualify. To me, I think that's very unhealthy but each to their own. She has also done extreme diets and even had to have her gall bladder removed because she didn't eat enough fat. I…
  • I was a poor college student and didn't have a car so I had to walk every place I wanted to go so this helped. I also didn't get a meal plan and ate on $40 a week (back in 1992-1996). I ate a lot of frozen veggies, pasta, and rice. Rice and beans are super cheap and good for you. You could make lots of beans and rice and…
  • Run a google search for: bench press calculator Here is the one I use. It is pretty dead on. A bar works better than machine for a more accurate indication. http://www.muscleandstrength.com/tools/bench-press-calculator.html
  • This is pretty typical for me: breakfast: oatmeal, banana, 1/2 apple (300 cal.) lunch: apple, banana, ham/cheese sandwich on wheat bread (500 cal.) snack: carrots, green pepper (100 cal.) dinner: 1 cup skim milk, corn, spaghetti and meat sauce, 1 slice of bread (1200 cal.) Total: 2,100 calories
  • I went from a men's size 12 to a size 11.5 when I lost 200 pounds. My width is still the same at EE. It's common to go down a size if you lose a lot of weight.
  • My personal best for a 5k is 23:20 that I hit a few months ago. Considering I was over 400 pounds 2.5 years ago, I guess that's pretty good. I'm now at around 24 minutes now since I have been doing a slow bulk adding more upper body mass. I prefer power walking over running. I also worry about injury with running and…
  • My five year old son and I were playing hide and seek one day and he said "Dad, you're too fat!" That really hit me. I knew I had to make changes. He was right. I was over 400 pounds, unhealthy, and facing a premature death. My grandfather died of a heat attack at age 47. Now, almost three years later with losing 200+…
  • I have mixed feelings about the show. I have lost over 200 pounds and maintained a healthy weight for over a year now. I think the show can serve as a motivation for some people. It is tons better than the Biggest Loser. Chris seems genuine and has some good tips. On the one hand, here are a few issues that I have with the…
  • I lost over 200 pounds from ages 37-39 over a two year period. It took a lot of work but it can be done with proper nutrition and exercise. I exercised 2-4 hours a day six days a week. Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I still try to exercise 1-2 hours a day.
  • You might also check out local pools in your area at local colleges or public schools. I have a swim pass at my local high school and do my laps there. It's $90 for an annual pass and they have pretty good hours for lap swim. I can usually get a lane to myself.
  • Thanks everyone for your responses. I'm glad to think it's just not me. I read some other gym etiquette articles and there are some differences of opinion I guess.
