  • Lay's Ruffles Cheddar and Sour Cream chips. I could eat the whole bag if I wanted to but I have to limit myself to a small bowl. Reese's peanut butter cups miniatures. If I have a big one I can eat one or two. But if there is a bowl of small ones out, before I know it I have a pile of wrappers in front of me and I didn't…

  • I never liked the taste of alcohol but I used to be addicted to soda. Terrible habit, full of empty calories and it just makes you keep gaining more and more weight. A lot of people forget to count the calories they drink, when people think about weight loss they usually think of food.
  • Weigh in once per week and you can monitor your progress without becoming obsessed with the scale or without becoming too lax (if you stop weighing yourself entirely you might slowly slip into bad habits or slowly gain weight back and not notice).
  • It would be interesting to see how to make a plan like that for losing weight because not everyone has 100+ pounds to lose so not everyone would be able to get the higher medals if it's based on pounds lost. And some people need to gain weight, not lose weight. The medallions would have to be tailored to the person's…
  • Welcome!
  • I weighed myself today and I gained a pound this week. But I also know I had more fast food than normal (I still exercised but clearly not enough to burn off all those extra calories), changes in my cycle, etc. Some sites suggest weighing yourself once per month due to changes in cycles, because certain days/weeks will be…

  • Hopefully you'll be able to recover quickly after your "experiment" is over... and these next few weeks won't make you sick.
  • You can net a few hundred calories a day. and some people might even lose weight rather than go into starvation mode. But I would be worried about putting it back on quickly. Losing weight too fast means it will be easier to put it back on. A few hundred calories a day is not sustainable long term and as soon as you reach…
  • If you can't work out then you can still lose weight by maintaining a deficit. Figure out how much food your body needs and then create a deficit, but don't go below 1200. I would suggest doing something light to remain active, such as going for short walks or swimming. You can increase the intensity to a jog or go for…
  • I would try to hit my macro goals. Accurate measuring is important, but it's also important to not consume fewer than 1200 calories (possibly slightly higher) per day or you risk going into starvation mode. As for exercise, maybe go for short walks or swim slowly so it's not too much of a strain. Slowly add more over time.…
  • Thanks for posting this. It's important to remember that MFP is more than just going on a diet, it's a lifestyle change. A lot of us have problems with food. Eating too much and not exercising enough. Not keeping track up how much we eat and we end up eating way too many calories. A lot of foods we like are very high in…
  • I'm 5' 4" and my goal weight is 125 right now. I might lower it but I'll see how I look when I get closer to my 125 goal. I have a small frame. Remember to take into account your frame size when choosing a goal weight. A lot of (especially young) people choose a low weight but have a medium to large frame, so they look…
  • Plain oatmeal is gross. The key to good oatmeal is to use fruit and cook it in brown sugar water to add flavor. Raisins are good if you cook them in brown sugar as well, they swell up and taste great.
  • You need to eat more. Your should be eating a minimum of 1200 calories per day, not 600. Your body is in starvation mode.
  • If you are short on time during the week, I would suggest making food ahead on the weekends and putting it in the fridge or freezer to be heated and eaten later in the week. Have your boyfriend help plan menus and make the meals so it's stuff he'll enjoy as well. It needs to be something healthier than fast food but still…
  • If you eat less than 1200/day it can put your body into starvation mode and MFP has a warning about that if you finish your day with less food than 1200 calories (your net can be under that if you exercised but do not *eat* under 1200 or it'll give you a warning). So 1200 should be your minimum. As for exercise calories,…
  • If it's every once in a while it's fine. I would recommend eating a smaller portion, because 500 calories is a lot for one snack. It's also high in sodium, so be careful if you eat stuff like that on a daily basis (can lead to heart or blood pressure issues in the future).
  • I eat what I normally do but less of it. I have one bowl of cereal instead of two or three. One grilled cheese and turkey sandwich instead of two. I don't make Kraft Macaroni and Cheese because eating an entire box by myself is too many calories (3 servings) and it's nasty to reheat that stuff, although Kraft Macaroni and…

  • 5' 4", GW 125 for now, I might lower it later to 115-120. I want to be 125 by my birthday in August but that might be a lot since I'm now in the "healthy" BMI range it will make it harder to lose weight especially if the later weeks end up being only 0.5 lb/week.
  • All over... I am technically in the "healthy" range now but I don't wear the weight well. My body type looks much better a lot thinner. I'm doing Zumba now but when I'm ready for toning I want to try Brazil Butt Lift. lol, infomercial DVDs.
  • I've had stomach fat even when I was in high school and was relatively thin (5' 4"/120 lbs when I graduated, slightly less before then). It takes a lot of discipline and it's very slow to come off, but it looks great once you've succeeded. Good luck!
  • I think the problem isn't the pizza itself, but that so many people eat too much of it. Many people cannot control themselves around food. I do like the idea of personal freedom, letting people choose what they want to eat, whether or not they exercise, etc. I am not a fan of governments that try to force their views by…
  • Summer is in June! Watch your calories (record on MFP) and exercise regularly. Aim to lose between 0.5 and 2 lbs per week depending on your current weight.

  • You are going to have to start eating healthier or you will have long-term health problems. Start eating better and exercising while you're still young so that you have good habits when you're older. You don't want your wake-up call to be a heart attack. :( There was a girl three years ago whose doctor told her that she…
