As a guide, you could also check some Mexican restaurants websites & look at their nutritional info. You won't know all the ingredients nor quantities, but you can see if the results of your recipe compares favorably with the commerically prepared items. Their sodium content will likely be considerably greater than your…

Be careful about rigidly following the allowable calories budgeted by MFP and expecting to lose that amount. You could say you wanted to lose 5 or 6 lb per week, & you would likely be advised 1200 calories. The internal software will not set your goal below 1200.

I lost 35 in ten months. My calorie budget was based on 1 pound per week. The weight loss I saw was pretty close to that.

When the blood bank told me that my iron was below their limit, I looked at my iron intake from food. Pretty low.

For a beer after work, sure.

When I started MFP, I always ate them dry. Got used to it. Now, on maintenance when I could afford the extra calories, I STILL eat them dry. Can taste the potato, not all the additives. I eat the skin, too.

My son took me out to eat for Father's Day. The scene was the parking lot at the restaurant.

OP, thanks for the 'warning.' I don't guess I lost 35 pounds. Purely a figment of my imagination that I had to get a new wardrobe. Even my shoes were too big. IF you follow the program, you WILL lose. Sorry you wasted your time on a free program. Buy the premium program; maybe that will help. SMH.

FWIW, I started at 229 and MFP set my calorie budget at 1570. I'm now maintaining at 1805.

Where do I sign up? I'm a pilot, an engineer, and sometimes wear a uniform.

I'm amazed at those who interject all the alphabet soup into weight loss. KISS = keep it simple, stupid. Gee whiz, I guess I'm dumb. I just filled out the MFP registration form, and it gave me a calorie budget. I logged. I lost. I've maintained since 2011. No need to complicate the process. I have no idea what my TDEE,…

^THIS. Granted, in general, if you reduce carbs, you will likely reduce calories, but THE ONLY WAY TO LOSE WEIGHT IS TO CONSUME FEWER CALORIES THAN YOU BURN.
-
I'd look for a daily calorie deficit in the 250 to 400 range.

Today, I had a lemon filled donut, a chocolate chip cookie, and ate Fazoli's spaghetti with bread sticks for supper.

No, you're NOT right. Trigden1991 is.

As some have noted, the microwave meals are loaded with sodium. Even the products marked "Low Sodium" or "Reduced Sodium" are still pretty high. The grocery store where I do most of my shopping has prepared tuna salad, chicken salad, and other products which avoid the needed preserving salt. Purchasing these items will…

Ditto what everyone above has said. Just getting out of bed, walking across the room, climbing stairs, or any kind of movement like that will burn fewer calories when you weigh 165. That's why MFP recommends re-evaluating your calorie intake to a slightly lower number as you lose. Won't take much of a reduction from your…

A friend, who is quite large, signed up on MFP. When filling in the info, she said she wanted to lose 5 pounds per week. Got a budget of 1200 cal. She didn't think she could go that low, so she changed it to 3. Same thing, 1200 cal per day. How could that be, she asked. I told her that she'd never be assigned fewer than…

Some have 'jostled' their systems by increasing the calorie intake for a couple of days, then cut back. Might work. I'm on maintenance now, and have been since 2011. However, while I was losing weight, I hit a plateau the endured for 6 weeks. I was following my calorie budget, getting close on macros, etc, NOTHING had…

Just the opposite. Since November of 2011, I've been about 1800 (1790 to 1805), and my weight is reasonably steady -- just daily fluctuations. MFP says I should be about 2000. If I followed that, I'd gain a little. Granted, very little, but certainly not static.
-
I typed in all the info that MFP wanted. The software set a recommended calorie intake. After each 10 pound loss, repeat the inputs because you won't burn as many calories just walking around. Follow the established calorie budget. I lost 35 pounds in 10 months. My weight has varied +/- 3 pounds since November, 2011, and…

I married my HS sweetheart, so even tho' she was a year behind me, she goes to all our reunions & knows most of the people. And, most know her. Small town. Only 81 in our class. Last one was my 50th. Everybody got old and fat! 'Cept us. :-)
