  • Some people don't eat Paleo to lose weight, so they wouldn't have need for a deficit. I don't think it's a fad at all, some people do not like to consume "processed" foods; I would say it's got a lot more attention recently with popularity, but it's been around a long time | kind of like keto.
  • Paleo forbids peanuts, so it's not for me i'm afraid; came here to tell you there's a fantatic Paleo community over on tumblr (tag #paleo) it crosses over to the keto tag a lot.
  • There's only two categories there though, food which falls into this "junk" category, and food which doesn't. Not talking actual food groups (grains, meats etc) If you were to neglect certain nutrients you risk developing a deficiency of them that's all. It wasn't an 'argument' it was just a direct answer to the above…
  • Butter is the best health food 99% of ketoers agree.
  • No need to wet your knickers.
  • that would have only saved them the hunger, not the lack of micro-nutrition.
  • If "junk" is defined as a food containing negligible or no micro-nutrients then eating only 'junk' for a prolonged period of time would cause that person to develop nutritional deficiencies, and possibly die from the complications. So that's entirely possible.
  • It's absolutely possible, it's actually how the term earned it's nicknake "rabbit starvation" A group of people ate nothing but rabbit for a while, they died due to protein poisoning (as described above) I could find a source if you wanted (or you could google) it's not very interesting though & just sad, they could have…
  • but it's low fat, so is healthy right? kekloltopb8
  • There's a term for this, Protein Poisoning. It is essentially malnutrition, gives you headaches & diarrhea; it's also potentially fatal. Not eating enough micro-nutrients can lead to excess hunger & over consumption of fats, carbs & proteins, and even pica like cravings. Horrible & certainly unhealthy.
  • Gotcha completely, of course no hard feelings! Didn't want you thinking I was saying you were wrong, because I completely agree with your definition of empty calories.
  • in tons and tons of notebooks & pads, it's not exactly organised. the recipies I use often I know by heart. I've kept some in my BBC good food online binder in the past, but never really bothered. I think a binder is a good idea though, easy to chuck/not keep ones that you don't want.
  • It may contain calories & sugar, but it is not nutrient dense, which means 'empty' It has one nutrient, carbohydrate - which while essential could be gained from a food which also helps you meet your requirements for other nutrients, like fats or minerals. The term "empty" applied to foods with one or two nutrients only,…
  • Seeing lots of people who answered in terms of individual food initially (including myself), and then just went on to discuss overall diet, which is the next natural step in a conversation about this subject. This is a thread, so it's a discussion that has evolved to this end. Not seeing a problem. by-the-by "you stated…
  • I was replying to a comment that was (as you stated) talking about diet, and was agreeing with him in the terms he stated. I wasn't actually talking to you at all, or talking about his response to you in particular (which I also agree with, clearly) I wasn't talking about your point at all. Individual foods are either…
  • I take it you didn't read my comments.. ok I said: "I personally believe there is such a thing as "better" food than others - only because the food in question is more efficient in terms of having a denser macro + micro nutrient value. As for 'healthier' that is a matter of overall diet & individual…
  • Completely agree with this, a calorie is a unit of energy that a doughnut will give you a fair few of. I've always heard 'empty' calories used in term of someone on a calorie constricted diet usually meaning that their can't waste their calorie allowance on foods that aren't highly dense in nutrients (as they need to meet…
  • Best weight loss tools that have worked for me: Calorie counting tools (MFP / SparkPeople) Water intake tracking (as above) More water Water with lemon in it Tea Tea with lemon Green tea Other Tea Coffee Basically any way you can get liquid into you that's mainly water. Fresh food: there's just something about nutrient…
  • what've you got against bugs? Highly nutritious, think of the protein.
  • It means that their risk of developing health conditions is increased, meaning a prolonged 'unhealthy'/imbalanced diet could potentially cause them to become unhealthy in the long term.
  • I personally believe there is such a thing as "better" food than others - only because the food in question is more efficient in terms of having a denser macro + micro nutrient value. As for 'healthier' that is a matter of overall diet & individual circumstance/conditions.
  • NICE!!! That smile on your face says it all.
  • My absolute favourite that I could wet myself laughing over is "you're going to get fat eating like that" best thing is it's usually said after someone asks me about the 100+lbs I've lost.
  • There's tons of online resources from simple sets you can do to programs like stronglifts. I would personally recommend stronglifts, as it's simple & easy to follow. Sparkpeople has a workout generator where you can enter your fitness level & what equipment you have access to, then it will give you a range of moves that…
  • Keto is my new love <3
  • I'm going to tell you off the bat if you want to go low fat then you need to go high carb - you need to ensure that you have a steady supply of energy, as well as ensuring that you're eating enough protein & then extra protein for any workouts etc. Honestly we'd all need a little more info about your routine & general plans
  • Dropped him superfast & dropped a good 50lbs since too.
  • The chance to start having good eating habits - responsibility for that falls on those responsible for the child, when you're not in control of what you're eating and relying on your parent/carer that is when the opportunity to form initial eating habits is. Now you already have your eating habits & you have an opportunity…
  • I had a love interest say to me to "not lose too much weight" because he "doesn't want competition"
