  • Me three! I think I upset the guys who have been force feeding themselves water for the last .... years because they believed what they read on the internet about having to have 8 glasses of water a day. Pale yellow wee-wee means you are sufficiently hydrated.....but mine is pink at the moment because I love eating my…
  • Hummus must be a 'healthier' food than mayonnaise because of all the chickpeas and sesame seeds - protein and fibre. Mayo is just eggs, isn't it?
  • I think it is quite normal....so please try not to worry too much. For now, you could put it to good use by spending time planning your food for the day and calculating the calories, so that you don't go over. Once you get used to it, your obsession should lessen. Another suggestion is definitely to keep busy. Focus on…
  • I knew my low intake of water wasn't causing me problems.....thanks for the proof!
  • I tried to do a search for side dishes on my favourite recipe website and am pasting the link here for you. They are not all vegetables but I am sure there must be some inspiration in there somewhere for you. Happy hunting:…
  • Just checked for you on MFP database - calories for 100ml serving of: Coconut Cream = 219 calories Coconut Milk = 154 calories Light Coconut Milk = 73 calories I have used light in a speedy lamb curry and find it perfectly acceptable. Give it a go, it definitely won't hurt and you might even like it :)
  • You can buy light coconut milk. Not sure what the calorie difference is? I imagine the outcome is a little thinner but I have always found that you just get used to these changes if you stick with them and usually end up preferring the light option.
  • I have developed an unhealthy relationship with coffee and cake. I allow myself the treat quite often, however, I swap it for either breakfast or lunch. This way, I have been able to enjoy my coffee and cake several times a week and still been successfully losing weight (slowly) for the last 18 months. Good luck.
  • I am quite impressed with your list - you have all the ones I used to dislike but can now eat (the dark green ones). I have found that you can get used to new foods and end up loving them, so the best thing is just to take every opportunity to try them. I love beetroot. Easy to cook and peel. Very sweet (but it does make…
  • Also, assuming this is a yeast dough, if the recipe calls for a resting or raising period of more than five minutes after you've formed the dough into a crust shape, I would leave it on the surface on which you rolled it out or otherwise shaped it (covered with a clean dish towel), and then transfer it to the pizza pan…
  • I believe that it has been scientifically proven that soup is more filling than a plate full of the same ingredients eaten separately!
  • Oatcakes with peanut butter!
  • That is a very unhealthy target to set for yourself. You should be looking to lose about one to two pounds per week. The only way to lose weight is to ingest fewer calories than you expend. MFP can be helpful for you to calculate what those numbers are but beware of errors and misinformation. Try to doublecheck calorie…
  • The 5:2 Fasting Diet is credited with possible diabetes reversal. It can't hurt to have a look http://thefastdiet.co.uk/ or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9Aj6hRYg4A Both of my parents have T2 and I was told some years ago by a GP that I should expect the same. Well, 24 lbs lost later (on the 5:2) and I'm not having that.…
  • Hello April, Like most people I have been battling with my weight for the last almost 40 years. I have been particularly successful twice and for me it was all about counting the calories. This second time I based my methods on the 5:2 Diet and think it might work for you simply because you don't have to change what you…
  • Also, to be healthy and lose weight, you should drop the dressing and the cheese from your salad. Lean ham is much lower in calories than cheese, or better still, a small tin of tuna or oily fish like mackerel will zest up your salad and give you much better nutrients. If you must have dressing (and I must), invest in a…
  • If you want to eat healthy and on a budget you are going to have to start cooking! Homemade vegetable soup can be super healthy, easy to make and scientifically proven to be more filling than the same ingredients not made into soup (interesting, huh?) Start by gently frying a chopped onion in a little oil, then add any…
  • See Tavi, I knew we understood each other! Lol :)
  • I believe that Scientists actually think we should all be getting 9 portions of fruit and veg every day but thought that information was too much for us to handle psychologically. As a result we were advised to aim for 5 portions per day. If you love veg, go for it!
  • Hello and welcome to MFP. You are setting yourself quite a few challenges all at once so I hope that you get the help and support you need on this site. Exercise is great for general health but please don't fall into the trap of relying on it for weight loss. The only way to lose weight is to consume less calories than you…
  • My method usually begins with getting a glass from the cupboard. Next I turn on the cold water tap and let it run a while so that the water is really cold (I always feel guilty at this bit because it seems very wasteful). Then I turn the tap off again because I don't want drips down the outside of my glass. I place the…
  • Please may I assist with spelling? The word you should be using is 'losing', not 'loosing'. There is no such word as 'loosing'. 'Lose' means to misplace something whilst 'loose' means the opposite of 'tight'. Hope you find this helpful and good luck with the dieting, sounds like you are doing very well. :)
  • If you want to lose weight then you must eat/drink fewer calories than you burn in a day (or averaged over a week or whatever). If you want to get fit/toned then you need to exercise. Doing more exercise will not result in weight loss unless you have eaten/drunk less calories than you burned. Everyone has a Resting…
  • How do you walk your dog whilst sitting?
  • Ok, I will clarify my position. I hate the GYM....it is smelly and depressing. Of course there are benefits to exercise but in relation to weight loss, they are disproportionate. And no need for angry faces there are enough opinions to go around...you love exercise (I assume) and I don't. We are still all nice people!
  • Listen to vismal - he knows what he is talking about. Go vismal!
  • Hallelujah! This is is why I don't exercise - all that misery for little or no benefit. Just be as active in your daily routine as possible....take the stairs, park at the farthest end of the car park, walk briskly.....and count those calories. Spend that gym time shopping for and cooking fresh food from scratch and you…
  • I have lost 24lbs on the 5:2. Most of the time I do not log, however, if I get stuck or run through a tricky patch, I start to log again for a few days to get me back on track. I am not sure that you should go a whole month without weighing yourself - for me, my weight is the only way I know if I am getting it right. And…
