  • I have lost just over 28lbs since 28th December. My weight loss is never linear, some weeks i lose nothing, the next week 3lbs, then I get 1lb a week for a couple..so I don't worry I just keep to the plan..which makes me feel much healthier..and let the weight loss come as it wishes.
  • No, on fast days your allowance is 600 regardless of exercise. Eat back calories on non fast days though if you wish.
  • Well I'm afraid I now weigh & measure absolutely everything that i eat with no exceptions. i found that I was wildly underestimating the calories I was eating. Healthy food can still push your calories way over TDEE. I mean unless you only eat individually packaged processed food , how do you know you eat 1500-1600…
  • Brilliant, and more power to you for sticking with it!!!
  • Same here, fast days are so simple, I eat the same most fast days so don't have to even think about meal planning, so simple. Love em!
  • Hi Terri, I think that 2 weeks is not really enough time to make a judgment call on your . Fasting is a long term life style choice NOT a quick fix shed it quick or 'fad diet'. like anything else you get out of this lifestyle what you put into it. Fast days take a while to get used to. When I first started I struggled to…
  • If you mean you are limiting yourself to 1290 cals on every non fast day then you are probably missing the point of intermittent fasting. If you are going to keep to under 1300 cals every day why bother with fasting. I truly believe that in the short term you will see good weight loss doing that but not in the long term…
  • I can actually see what he is basing his article upon as he is quite correct in that the salt balance in our bodies does play an important part in the control of certain hormones essential for health and well being and the major one is Cortisol production which is as he correctly said produced by the adrenal glands above…
  • short answer is no
  • Hi and welcome. If it suits you this way of eating can become a very easy lifestyle to adopt, especially if you only have a small amount to lose. It is particularly suited to maintaining, something i managed for quite a while on it, its the losing I have a problem with LOL!!! Add me if you want. I do tend to eat the same…
  • So sorry to hear of your accident. I've been there done that & got the tee shirt. Lugging over 17st around on a frame & then a pair of crutches was a wake up call for me too and I lost 5st after the broken ankle. only trouble is I didn't have the food education that 5:2 has given me and I put it all back on with a bit…
  • Wow wow wow, what an amazing and inspirational lady you are. You are truly beautiful inside and out. I love your attitude, I hope you get the surgery soon you deserve to have that skin gone but so glad you don't let it worry you or hold you back in the meantime.
  • Love it, well done & well said
  • Hunger is a strange thing, you have to ask yourself if you are 'really' hungry or 'just want to eat'. I think taking the plunge and doing the first fast day is the way to go. You have to tell yourself that you won't 'die', hunger is just a state of mind and a rumbling stomach is just your body trying to win you over! My…
  • I'm afraid I'm like jknight in that I crave food all the time, always have and probably always will hence a 40 odd year cycle of yo yo weight loss and gain. 5:2 has given me an insight though into how little or much I 'really need' to eat so since my last attempt at following the lifestyle, in the year not following it I…
  • You can't lose muscle mass over 2 days fasting a week if you have a 100lbs to lose...its fat, fat, fat all the way. Look into it first before knocking it. Proven & fully researched as healthy in more ways than just weight loss.
  • My fast Days are always pretty much the same because I'm happy with it. Breakfast: 16oz glass of hot water with lemon juice. Lunch: Mug of tomato soup which I make from a pack of tomato passata mixed with a tin of lentil & bacon soup (Baxters) divide into three portions comes out at around 90 cals a portion. Supper: Pack…
  • I'm with you, I love Chinese & Japanese food, but rarely if ever have takeaway as prefer to go for it and eat in Restaurant or cook my own. Japanese is so easy to do at home and mostly really healthy, only trouble is OH prefers a curry, typical eh?
  • Hi, Yes I had this same problem myself!!! Took me ages to work it out, go to your check in where you enter your weight and underneath you will see 'edit previous entries' thats where you can change your start weight and it has your full history in there, which for me made me feel very fed up to have slipped back!!!
  • Your Fast day sounds good so hope you are still 'on plan'. Like you when i did this previously I ate 'anything' on non fast days and I still lost but oh so slow, so this time i decided that if I'm going to suffer I'm not blowing it on other days ,so I allow treats and eat what I facy but i balance all my non fast days to…
  • Have to agree with everything said, my weight fluctuates 3-4lbs in a week when on 5:2. I can sometimes go up 1-2lbs after a fast day, which is against the trend, but if i do I'm actually pleased because nearly always a day or two after I get a 'lump' loss as i like to call it! Weight loss is not linear, our bodies do not…
  • Loving the green bean & rice, if I ate that many beans I'd be in orbit this morning, LOL, well done yesterdays fasters, enjoy todays food!
  • If I eat what I want I can easily eat enough to put weight on in 2 meals, I eat between 8-9am and 6-7pm so I can't see how a 9-12hr window can help me lose weight. 6hr window possibly.
  • I'm fasting today,(UK as well) thank God I do like hot water & lemon as it IS cold here today. I also save calories for a cup of coffee tea with milk. Just had home made tomato soup for lunch so feeling quite happy at the moment!
  • I hope you read the article you quote fully, where it clearly states that the main increase in weight is due to the way the medication effects your behaviour, ie eating more, moving less. it also states that by increasing exercise the effects of most of these drugs can be counteracted. I myself put on over 20lbs of hard…
  • Spot on, -as someone with a husband who has been struggling for over a year to get their calories to or over 1000 calories due to a severe health problem i can assure people that they can and will continue to lose weight. Yes a lot of its muscle & no its not healthy but 'fat' people like myself don't need to worry about it…
  • If you look in your Goals here on MFP it gives you your TDEE at the rate of activity you have chosen and also your deficit. Have you also looked at https://www.fastday.com/ if you fill in their tracker it works your fast day target & also your non fast day recommended calories. It also has some great recipe ideas.
  • Hi, I note that you are a 35yr old male so under 1000 calories is actually a fasting rate for you especially if you are also overweight so therefore with a higher TDEE with carrying the weight around. Please note by reducing your calories to that level you are NOT eating healthier!!!! So eggs for breakfast, how do you have…
  • Without seeing the OP's diary its all guesswork. Regarding water it could actually be the opposite, drinking too much when eating less food can take all the low sodium and electrolytes from the body which would also cause headaches. Who knows...
