Air mattress, lantern or light of some sort, chairs.

You are so awesome!

Hey all, feel free to add me! :) I need some motivation as well.

Some pictures from my current favorite 5k route. :)

I cried, too. My mom and I read that book to each other when I was young...8 or so and it definitely made me cry--loved it.
-
Oh man, that book got me to love Vonnegut. Such an awesome book!

I loved almost all of the things I had to read in HS...most notably, The Great Gatsby, The Grapes of Wrath, A Separate Peace, Rebecca, Wuthering Heights, Jane Eyre, etc. The only thing I did not enjoy reading was Romeo and Juliet, but I love Hamlet and Macbeth.
-
Aw, one of my favorites!
-
Oh man...I adore Faulkner and Catch-22 is one of my favorite books---it's absolutely hilarious (English degree here, too).

I have the Altra Adam and love them. I also have the Vibram SeeYa and Bikila LS. All are great for running.

A serving of cereal...for instance, Raisin Bran, is 190 calories. Eating 401 calories of cereal is way too much. However, I find that cereal is also not very filling no matter how much I eat. Steel Cut Oats are good and filling. I also eat Quaker Oat Bran (hot cereal, very filling, 150 calories) and Greek Yogurt.

I really don't see a problem with this. Of course, McDonald's isn't healthy, but if you crave it, then eat it and burn it off. And stop feeling guilty about it, as food is not the enemy. You have made major changes, just remember that. In time, you may find that you no longer want the double cheeseburger, but do not stress…

Where do you play? In the water, on the trails, at the parks, in my home. What do you read? Kurt Vonnegut, John Kennedy Toole, J.K. Rowling, Maya Angelou, Toni Morrison, William Faulkner, Stephen King, etc. How do you spend your money? Running gear, books, video games, food. What do you drink? Water, coffee, almond milk…

Don't worry if you are "slow." I have been running for a bit over a year and still run 13 minute miles (sometimes 14). On a good day, I can run one mile around the 10 minute mark. It's not about how fast you go. I even managed to finish a half marathon running very slowly. :)
-
Well, I ran my first half with my longest run ever clocking in at only 8.2 miles (and that was about 5 weeks before the half or more, woops!). I did it...but I kind of died, ha. It was also my first 1/2 ever, but I finished. So, I definitely think you can do it.
-
Yes, you can definitely run now. I started Couch to 5K in Jan of 2011 and completed it in March. I weighed 258 lbs when I started. I just ran my first half marathon on March 18th, 2012.

If you're interested...try minimalist shoes, but as someone said earlier, transition slowly if you go that route. I run in Vibrams or a pair of Nike water shoes. I made the switch to minimalist shoes 7 months ago after injuring myself by wearing shoes to "correct" some things. Just ran my first 1/2 marathon in March and…

Try Couch 2 5k, there is an app for it. I did it when I weighed 258 lbs and finished it. I just ran my first half marathon in March and I am still overweight (now 193 lbs). I am also a very slow runner, but a runner just the same!
-
Do you happen to notice if you strike the ground heel first when running? What kind of shoes do you run in?
-
Of course! I met my SO on Myspace of all places. It will be 4 years in Sept. and she's NEVER getting rid of me, muah ha ha.
-
<3 you, friend.
-
I second your shenanigans.
-
I am an overweight runner...I usually get encouragement from others (which can be a bit annoying since they seem to like to say, 'go on, mama' to me, ha) When I see people who are heavier than I am, I get happy for them.

Richard's Whole Foods or Good Earth or the downtown Sarasota Whole Foods.

5'5" here...64 pounds lost. I still have about 30 more to go. I lost the 64 pounds in about a year. I do use a heart rate monitor to track my exercise, but no food is off limits, nor has it ever been. My exercise of choice is running.
-
Check out Ezekiel bread...great for you. It does have 80 cals a slice (but, hey, better than 110!)
-
3-5 but sometimes it can go as high as 6 lbs which seems crazy!
-
I second that!!!!! I get overjoyed when I run a 12 minute mile...and that only ever happens for the very first mile of however many I'm running.
-
As another poster said...look up good running form. Running does not have to be hard on your knees. :)

Whoa on the 900! Don't listen to them unless you have very specific reasons to do so and are under a doctor's care! 1200 is the minimum to intake, so if you exercise, you would eat more than that. I eat about 1600 a day without exercise and about 1900 a day if I exercise (or more depending on how many cals I burn).
