Love these! Everyone keeps hating on recomping, insisting that slow bulking is the best way to go and that recomping will get me nowhere. Glad to see people have proved otherwise!

Always great to hear from someone who's been successful with it! I'm not looking to be "ripped" either. I honestly don't even care that much about being "toned". My main focus is to get smaller in the right places, and stronger in the right places. I'm currently doing that on a deficit, and I feel great. Maybe it's noob…

Glad it gave you a laugh! Your response was a pleasant change of pace from the arguing that has since ensued about the Insanity program. IMO: Insanity is a cardio intensive (over-hyped, "buy our product, because Beachbody") program that utilizes bodyweight moves to enhance overall strength (but primarily, endurance) I…

Hallo! 23 years young 5'6'' tall SW: ~140 CW: 132 GW: 125- 135? CBF%: 24% GBF%: 18% - 20% I'm in the range for what I feel I'll end up, weight-wise. But I'd like to trim down some of the body fat I have going on. I'm currently attempting a recomp, and would love to meet women who are in the same boat, or who have been…

Awesome, awesome thread! Bookmarking so I can follow along. I'm 23 years old, 5 foot 6. I currently weigh 132 pounds as of this morning, at just under 24% body fat. I'm looking to do a recomp and could definitely go for some suggestions on macros. Currently this is what I have, but I plan on adjusting as I go along to get…

I'm currently attempting a recomp; I'm 23 years old, 5 foot 6, and 132 pounds as of this morning. I'm right around 24% body fat according to my scale. The macros for my training days (days I lift weights) are P40%, C40%, F20%. That means I, a 132 female, and supposed to be getting (somehow) 200g of protein a day... I'm not…

Weighing yourself every day will drive you insane. With that being said, I weigh myself every 2 to 4 days, depending on my mood, and how I feel/look that morning. Scales can be horribly inaccurate, so the only way to be sure is to have enough plots on the graph to have a noticeable trend one way or another... Prepare for…

I've decided to go ahead with the recomp, as I was struggling to eat enough calories to "bulk" and just didn't feel that it was the right time to go through with that. As I mentioned (or perhaps that was in the other thread, I'm not sure) since it's already Spring, I would rather take the slow and steady route (i.e-…

My coworker loaned me his Fitbit Flex, and I wound up finding one on eBay for $50 brand new, so I bought it. Do I like it? Yeah. Would I have paid full price for it? Absolutely not. I have a Polar FT4 Heart Rate Monitor that I wear during my workouts, and I absolutely love it. It's the most accurate reading I've gotten…

I was just looking for a thread like this. Mine does it too, and it drives me insane (even on days I don't workout). I mostly just delete it. I use a HRM for my workouts, and I feel that's more accurate than whatever FitBit tries telling me. If I could figure out how to utilize it more properly, maybe I'd do that, but it…

That's a really good suggestion. I love Stronglifts, and I don't feel that I've really peaked yet, or came to a point when I'd need to deload, but I feel like I'm getting there. I thought maybe I'd just continue Stronglifts through the month of April, then I'll try the 12 - 16 reps deal. Is there any program that you would…

I'm in a similar boat, OP (wanting to drop body fat %) but you sound like you're TINY as it is... Shriveling yourself up won't get rid of bloating. I mean, if you STARVE yourself, you'll bloat. Your body holds onto everything and anything that it can, just to sustain you... I saw great results when I went from 1200 to 1400…
-
You probably don't feel that hungry because your body is practically putting itself in starvation mode. I went from 1200 calories to 1400 and I felt SO much better. Now I'm bumping it up to 1,700 which is right around maintenance for me. I'm weight lifting and looking to drop body fat. If I were breastfeeding, I would be…

I think 20% body fat would be a really comfortable spot for me. It's hard to tell until I'm actually there (numbers are nothing compared to visual, NSV) but with the assumption that I really am almost 24% body fat right now, I see that being a good long (long)-term goal. I plan on eating at/around maintenance for a while…

Wow! Awesome link and advice. Thank you!! I knew something didn't feel quite right about bulking just yet. Thanks again! :)
-
I appreciate it! I figure it would take a while, and like I said once I get closer to where I want to be, I'll know what "number" I really want to be at. I don't even know if I could lose 4 inches around my waist (I consider "waist" to be the natural waist, slimmest point. Then I measure the abdomen at the belly button)…

Yeah, I'm not looking for the short road. If it were winter, I'd probably be cool with playing chipmunk and just blaming the extra chub as hibernation weight, haha. But seeing as how it's already getting warm out, I'd rather just recomp through the season, keep adding weights to the bar, and come fall/winter I should be…

I'm not honestly sure what the best route is, to be honest. I could eat at maintenance, then cut down to 20% body fat, but (I think) it makes more sense to cut to 20% first, and then eat at maintenance to regulate everything out, and then focus on bulking up some. I think this really sums it up best for me. I totally don't…

@jemhh I didn't think so either. I'm beginning to question the validity of the scale at all... How am I supposed to know what the best plan is for me if I don't even know where I'm at? :\
-
Yeah, I am. Planet Fitness' Smith machine bar is only 20 pounds as opposed to a traditional 45 pound Olympic bar (which I was very, very disappointed to find out, but pumped me up to start lifting heavier!) Why do you ask? (Don't make fun of my tiny muscles :c) lol

That was actually an incredibly helpful article. I'm pasting and highlighting some of the last part for reference as to what I'm about to say: Practical Recommendations If you’re above 15% body fat (about 24-27% for women), diet first. If you can get to the 10-12% (19-24%) body fat range or so, I think you’ll be in an…

I'm not completely knocking out the idea of bulking, but this is what I'm afraid of-- the mental challenge that is bulking/cutting. I mean, I'm sure it's different for everyone, but my body does not handle extreme change like that very well... I'm on a multitude of supplements because I don't get enough of this or that. I…

@SezxyStef I originally had started a thread inquiring about muscle gain on a deficit (essentially asking if it was possible, and if not, what did I have to do instead?) I was eating 1400 calories a day, lifting, and doing cardio alternating days. I had plateaud, and was getting frustrated. I wasn't sure if it was…
-
@tzarba To my knowledge, you will gain about the same of each, but you're absolutely going to put on some fat if you want to gain muscle. If you start seeing a trend of say 5:1 fat/muscle pounds, THEN you have something to be worried about... This is what I had to remind myself of when I stepped on the scale this morning…

@RageQuitP90x Thanks for the suggestion! That is a little more than I'm looking to spend (and sounds scary, haha!) but I mean, if I do decide to go for the horse soup, it would definitely come in handy! :P Also, I should note that I'm still pretty new to lifting heavy. I mean, I started Stronglifts a few weeks back, but I…

Holy balls, Cap'n, that's a lot of protein! Haha I definitely appreciate the offer, and I've already got your profile open and tabbed to look into here in a moment! Yeah, that's what I've been struggling to do though, is fill those macros. I guess I need to learn how to eat smart so I'm just filling up on macro-void…

I guess it just doesn't *feel* like it should be that simple. Dr.Oz needs to take note. *kitten* your Garcina Cambogia, just eat heavy and lift heavier-- hah.

I created the other thread because I was looking for advice on how to eat more (calorie-wise) when I haven't been hungry enough to eat all the calories I need. It started to turn into a war on "what's right to eat and what isn't" and then I expressed my ignorance on the subject, and opened myself to their suggestions. I…
