  • The first 3 weeks and maintenance.
  • Just for a bit of variety..no, i have never gained it back. I was always fit when i was younger (up to about mid 20's) but over the last decade just didn't notice how fat i had become until I hit 280. Lost 80lbs last year and have been maintaining for about 6 months (stopped logging at maintenance, just weighing). So maybe…
  • As others have said : if a food scale then it's very important as it allows you to know how much you're putting in your body, if it's a body weight scale then it's helpful, especially when you are over weight or trying to just maintain but nothing else. If you are trying to tone/build muscle then the scales won't be your…
  • The other sites will adjust the daily calorie allowance depending on your activity level, MFP doesn't. Set the activity level to what you like and the daily calorie allowance doesn't change, it expects all exercised to be logged.
  • Agree with the above, it's probably this. MFP doesn't change your calories when you change your activity level, but the online ones do. You need to add it as an exercise to the day.
  • Came into maintenance on a 500ish loss and am upping it by 200ish a week (this being the first week). I have gained like people said and i'm trying not to panic.....which is hard.
  • Bagged and put in the attic a handful of clothes (mostly tops as bottoms no real use). Out of the rest the good ones i donated and the rest in the recycling.
  • BMI has flaws. According to this he is now in a healthy BMI : http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/9816596/Interactive-calculator-do-you-win-or-lose-with-the-new-BMI.html
  • The only physical negative is that a hernia which i got when i was heavy and had a bad cold got A LOT worse with the wieght loss. I think the fat used to hold it in most of the time but now it's gone it's a real problem. Weird to be much fitter but unable to do some things as easily as when i was fatter. Anyway going in…
  • Hi Paul, I'm very similar to yourself : came from 278 eight months ago, am currently 211, 39 years old and 6" 3. I have had the same thoughts about what my goal should be, and think it's somewhere in the 14 stone range. I have set it for 196 as this is the top of the old BMI, just over middle of the new and (more…
  • Set at my heaviest / when i started the fight. I started MFP a month later and entered the my heaviest weight and when it was restrospectively. The bigger number and milestones from the heaviest number, gives me motivation.
  • Don't know if this has been posted before but maybe of interest to the BMI people, a supposed error in the formula and corrected calculator : http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/9816596/Interactive-calculator-do-you-win-or-lose-with-the-new-BMI.html Personally, it works out about right for me but i use it in…
  • End of Jan 2013. First time i have tried to loose weight so hopefully it'll stay off. I see MFP as a tool that has helped me see my problem habits, so am looking to stop using it when i have been at maintenance for a while. I will keep an eye on the scale and use it again to readjust if needs be.
  • Only if you have symptoms that affect your ability to drive safely. A subjective point i realise, but there you go. Anyway to the OP, hey buddy :), January this year i was at my heaviest and that coupled with my suspected sleep apnoea meant i could sleep 7-8hours but i actually only got a couple a night. By the end of the…
  • 60lbs in 6 and a half months. It's been a rollercoaster but i'm happy with the progress, never thought i'd get this far to be honest (it's my first attempt at losing weight).
  • Coming from a male : what a complete and utter tool!
  • I think you'll be fine. As said you are young, stay hydrated, don't go for loss too quickly (like > 2lbs a week) and try some skin firming cream. Weights don't hurt either. If i'm anything to go by..6ft 3, 39 and lost what i show on my ticker in 6 months, no saggy skin here :) Good luck.
  • Nice, seriously. :ohwell: To the OP : I think i was that guy and my wife was you. I wouldn't do jack about my weight but would complain and be unhappy about it. She (and I think you) just wanted to help the person they love to not be unhappy, if i was happy doing what i was doing then she wouldn't have minded and wouldn't…
  • Tesco's own brand as they are line caught instead of net which not only is more ethical but better for the taste (apparently).
  • I read the OP as just the family being concerned and nothing negative about it. The scenario sounds quite familiar. I was 278lbs and had been putting weight on for the better part of a decade, before that I was pretty active, fit and within the healthy BMI. I have lost almost 4 stone and my wife and mum are concerned when…
  • Apathy is a terrible thing , though it must be said I enjoyed mine for about a decade
  • I've lost about 50lbs in 5 months and have had a few comments. Mostly i don't know what to say as they are being complimentary and encouraging but I find that slightly embarassing. To the few who actually want to know how, I give them the 3 main things in order of importance : 1) State of mind, you have to want it, a half…
