  • Up in my head - I find that my biggest challenge is my own mind. So basically the obstacles that I have faced while trying to lose weight were all "up in my head" Plus I'm a day dreamer, my mind is always going and I'm constantly thinking, and just generally in my own head rather than in the environment that surrounds me -…
  • That's exactly what I do too! Plus I add a little baking soda to help with peeling.
  • I don't eat breakfast because it's "the most important meal of the day" or that I'll lose more weight because I'm eating breakfast. I eat it because if I don't, my stomach starts to growl in class and then I spend the rest of the lecture time trying to quiet the growls (still haven't figured out how to). Not really a good…
  • Yeah the Inland Empire is horrible. It's great for the mountains and skiing/snowboarding, but after that, just no.
  • I have mixed feelings about SoCal. I spent the summer in 2009, and moved here in July of 2011. I guess since I had the shortened version of it in 2009, I thought it was the best place ever. After living here for 2 years, I wouldn't mind living in some other places. I have my eye on NorCal. While I love the weather and…
  • I'm on Adderall XR. I started at 10mg and now I take 20mg. The difference when I'm on it vs. when I'm not are night and day. I stopped taking it for about a month and got very little done (I'm a grad student). I basically went back to feeling the way I felt before: unmotivated, unorganized, "slow" (as in getting things…
  • It's just a fairy tale. The common cold is caused by a virus and you'll just have to wait for your body to fight it off. Of course, you can take things to help with the symptoms, but in the end it's your body that will have to fight it off. I also heard the same thing that if it's above the neck, you can work out. Hope you…
  • I did Insanity and lost 21 pounds, but it really took a toll on my knees. Plus I had a lot to lose in the first place. It is a lot of cardio with some body weight resistance exercises thrown in, but mainly cardio. It did wonders for my endurance. I'm doing P90X right now (the classic version), and since I'm eating at a…
  • I'm 5'7, started at 218 (recorded weight, but it was higher than that) and ate between 1200-1350 calories a day + doing Insanity. Lost 21 pounds by January 3rd and stayed there until ~2 weeks ago when I upped my calories to 1900 and lost 2 pounds right after doing that. Trust me, I was scared to get on the scale and see a…
  • 1. Marly 2. 23 pounds 3. I'd like to lose another 50 4. Give it time! Slow and steady wins the race.
  • New to MFP, but definitely not new to tracking, feel free to add me!
  • Feel free to add me!
  • When I first started doing Insanity, I had about ~70 pounds to lose. I'm not going to lie, it is super tough. There's a ton of jumping, and with someone carrying excess weight, it will take a toll on the knees. Whenever my knees felt achy, I just modified the moves for less impact. However I completed the whole thing - by…
  • You beat me to it. I really really HATE the term "real woman" when used to compare different characteristics. Talk about judgment city.
  • I'll go: I lost 21 pounds between end of November - January 3rd eating only 1200 -1400 calories and NOT eating exercise calories back. Yes, that is a lot of weight lost in a few weeks and this is why: I was doing Insanity, so in reality I was netting ~800-1000 calories a day. I thought I ate my exercise calories back, but…
  • It's easy to link a lot of things with obesity. But correlation does not equal causation. I think the thing with diet soda and obesity is psychological: A person may think that they're doing themselves a favor by swapping out regular soda with diet soda. Which in truth they are. But it's easy to think: oh I just had a diet…
  • No, just... no. That is definitely NOT the physiology of the release insulin. Please don't spread completely wrong information. Your body DOES know the difference between glucose and artificial sugars. If it didn't, a lot of diabetics would be in trouble. A quick overview: Glucose is the major regulator of insulin release.…
  • Ah me too!! I plan on doing that to be my own motivation to maintain the weight loss. Looking at fitness models is nice, but that's not my body. Plus a completely new wardrobe. Almost everything is big on me now, and I hate looking so shapeless, and I am tempted to buy new ones, but I don't want to have to keep on shopping…
  • I started my weight loss journey netting between 1200-1350 calories a day and lost 21 pounds pretty quickly. But I became miserable, I no longer had any energy, and my weight loss stalled for weeks. I was still eating the correct amount of calories (and I have a food scale so I weighed everything), and it was "clean"…
  • Blasphemy!! Lol real bacon is delicious! I grew up on turkey bacon and once I had the real thing a few years ago, I never went back. And I'm with you on the ice cream. I occasionally eat the lower calorie stuff to meet my calorie goals, but as an actual treat? Full fat, full flavor please!
  • Way to go!
  • I'm just one person (grad student) living in southern California, and I spend anywhere between $40-60 every 2 weeks for staples (fruits, veggies, eggs, milk, cheese). About once a month I buy meat in bulk from Costco, ~$50. When I first moved out here in July of 2011, my mom brought a lot of things in bulk for me that…
  • What kind of fruit are you eating? A medium apple is ~80 calories so x 5 is 400. A banana is ~100 calories x 5 = 500. That's a huge difference. So maybe you're not tracking correctly? Those calories still add up and can be the reason why you're gaining weight even at what you may think to be 1200 calories. Edit: Others…
  • Congrats, you look great!!
  • Peanut butter 90% of the time Apples & cinnamon Almonds & cranberries
  • I really hate that. One of my pet peeves. Besides for my best friend, who will usually text me as she's walking up to the door, I don't answer for anyone I'm not expecting. I was raised that it's extremely rude to stop by uninvited, and I have no tolerance for it. Especially since I usually lounge around in a messy room…
  • I have a 4.5 month old Maltese. She's the love of my life!
  • Please don't do it. As others have said, using one extreme behavior to compensate for another is NOT healthy, physically or emotionally. In fact, if done often enough, it fits the criteria for bulimia nervosa, non-purging type. I don't know you, but just from reading your post it seems like you have a really unhealthy…
  • I always log fruit and sometimes vegetables depending on what type and how much. If it's diced bell peppers and a few mushrooms I'm tossing into an omelet, then no. But if it's part of a salad or an actual serving, then yes.
  • Why do I even click on threads about cleanses and detoxing? Sometimes I wish I could download all of my notes on the physiology & pathophysiology of the GI tract, liver, and kidney. But I suspect even then people will still fall prey to the notion that our body needs our help to detox (when healthy of course). It doesn't,…
