I love swiss chard. Sauteed with onion, garlic and sometimes a jalapeno. I used to toss the stems but found that if you start them earlier than the leaves they will soften. It takes longer than spinach but less time than collards. Add some stock, white navy beans and a small amount of Italian sausage. Yum! Now kale. No.…

I loved where the Crawdads Sing. I really enjoyed Stephen King's 11/22/1963. And Mudbound stayed with me for a really long time. Unfortunately I don't always retain the books and am often surprised when someone recommends a book or I see they've made a movie from a book..I look it up and find that I read it and have no…

Hi I'm Elizabeth. I read some as a child but not too much as an adult, maybe a handful a year. I love real books but found it difficult to read..I probably needed glasses and my lighting sucked. Then my friend gifted me a kindle. Game changer. I now read at least 4 books a month. Sometimes more sometimes less. Insomnia…

I have discovered roasted brussel sprouts (with a little bacon too). My parents made me sit at the dinner table until I ate the cold, boiled plain sprouts, so I didn't eat them for 40 years. I also like a roasted eggplant salad from the Barefoot Contessa. I tweeked it to substitute bulgur for her orzo and add chick peas.…

I know I do some steps during the day without my phone, but I live in a small condo, only 900 sq feet. It's on the third floor, but if I go downstairs, I take my phone. I also walk the dog a couple times a day, but she is sooo slow! 20 min walk is usually less than 1000 steps. My friend gave me an old fitbit, but I had…

I started the year with several really good books. Me by Elton John - so many drugs!!! The Secrets we Kept by Lara Prescott - about female spies during the cold war - 1950's Ask Again Yes by Mary Beth Keane - Two families who live next door to each other who experience a terrible tragedy. spanning several decades I'm…

@GrandmaJackie Wod in our neighborhood is that Lafitness isnt so clean at least at the location near me. Its about 1/2 mile away.. but my old gym is only 2 block away plus it's an independent local business, so I'm inclined to go there. Thanks for your imput. I'm going to call them tomorrow and see what the situation is. I…

I absolutely love breakfast. Some of my favs are completely unhealthy..but those are special occasions. I'm currently eating greek yogurt with berries, a bit of honey and a small portion of granola. I also enjoy avocado and tomatoes on toast with everything bagel seasoning. Oatmeal with raisins, cinnamon and milk is…

I used to post photos from my phone. But the last few times, it wouldn't work. I love lentils. Sometimes I just cook up some brown ones, add onion and carrot. Then I serve it over rice with some spicy Italian sausage and a little hot sauce. I used to make a lentil soup/stew with red lentils, lots of spices, garlic and…

I like popsugar fitness videos on youtube for cardio/light weights. I use Sydney Commings for strength workouts and am exploring other youtubers. There's another gal who does a nice weight workout - her name is Kat something. I also ride my bike a few miles here and there. Up to 10 miles in the warmer months, probably 5 or…

Hoping this week is better for you. Take care if yourself, you've got so much going on that I hope you can take a few moments for yourself. And I also agree that success is in the getting back on track. No one us perfect and those slips are normal. And yay for parents getting the vaccine.

Make it a game. Use marbles or pennies in 2 jars to signify a glass of water. Move them from one to the other when you drink a glass. Drink a full glass of water before you eat anything. One when you wake up.

I've done a few of her strength workouts. I like that she's no nonsense. Since covid I've been working out at home and struggling to find workouts that I enjoy. I'll look into the others.

I'm in line for Atomic Habits at the library. I'm #278 for 44 copies.

Back to logging my food and doing a YouTube exercise routine. Also working on getting my steps in. I've slacked off.

Join us! We are not not just 50 yr olds. Next year I'll be 60.

Back to logging my food. We had gooey appetizers for dinner and sweets plus a couple of beers for new years day. Feeling yucky today. Headed out for a hike by the lakefront with my roommate and her dog. Happy Saturday everyone!

Happy New Year!! My wish for you is the same.

Welcome! Success isn't just the scale..in fact it can be fickle and doesn't always reflect your actions. In addition to the above suggestions, have a snug piece of clothing to measure success. My weight can fluctuate several pounds in a week, but a blouse and jeans don't lie. Be in it for the long haul. Build on healthy…

I'm logging everything again today and will eat some of those vegetables that I've been neglecting for a while. My back has been hurting for the last few days (a bit unusual for me) so I'll do some stretching and maybe a walk. Sitting is not a good thing nor is lying in bed. Ugh!

I'm logging everything today. And I'm not going to buy cheez its.

Lucky you!! No snow yet here in Chicago.. my snow shoes are ready tho.

The gym can be a welcoming place or a return to HS cliques. It's all in your mind. Most people are into themselves at the gym and may not notice you. Others will say hello to everyone. I've had both experiences at the same gym. Go and explore the gym. Not sure how something works? Ask someone. Hopefully they have a new…

There's a New Balance store in Chicago. Possibly one in oak brook and one at clark & Fullerton..going by memory. Look them up. If you're a runner I highly suggest any of the local running stores. They are scattered throughout the city and burbs.

You said it... Dignity and confidence. It's being our best self no matter our size. Wearing clothes that fit properly and make us feel good. I am no fashionista by any means. I don't wear a lot of makeup. However, I can remember certain pieces of clothing throughout my life that gave me confidence. No matter my wearing a…

Thank you both for the feedback. I will download the calm app. Getting putside always makes me feel better but living in Chicago makes it hard sometimes to put on all the layers to venture outside.
