I rode in today's Bike the Drive in Chicago
I normally ride my bike several days a week, but usually 5 or 10 miles tops. Today, I rode 32 miles on Lake shore Drive in Chicago. It was a gorgeous morning and I did really well until the last 3 miles. They shut down the road to cars from 5-10am once a year. Awesome event. Anyone else do it?

How are you handling the post pandemic socializing??
In Chicago restaurants are open to nearly full capacity. Most places don't require a mask anymore. Even my gym - if you bring in proof of being vaccinated you don't need to wear a mask.

Training for a fall hiking trip
I'm going to the Adirondacks in the fall and want to do some easy to moderate hikes of 6-10 miles. I won't be doing the super hard ones, I'm 59 yrs old and will be alone. I think there's plenty of trails that won't kill me but will be a bit of a challenge. The problem is that I live in a super flat part of the country…

Back to the gym
59 F. I've been a member of my local gym for 15 years. Until March of 2020. I still haven't gone back. And I know I need to do it. I have a variety of bands and dumbells at home. But I'm inconsistent. I've tried many you tube videos and liked some of them but I'm not putting in the work. I started walking a couple of miles…

The sticky notes
I've started reading the sticky notes on the main forum board. Each one has a section at the top marked announcements and there is valuable info in each one. In the fitness forum there's an entire list of strength training programs. In the food one there's a great post about cico, using a food scale and all sorts of…

March goals
Holy smokes tomorrow is March 1st. Any month long goals? Name them and how you will achieve it. It doesn't have to be a weight loss goal. Perhaps an activity or trying a new vegetable or water consumption? No alchohol?

When do you give up on a book?
Do uou give it 100 pages, one chapter, or do you always finish a book once started?

Are you counting your steps?
Curious what your dauily step count is. I don't have a fitbit or apple watch but I use a pedometer app on my phone. I do carry my phone most places outside but not all around the house unless I'm cleaning. And I don't have it when I'm working out. I am working on consistently getting 7 or 8000 a day. Last month it was…

Excess sugar
I love candy and all baked goods. When the Easter bunny arrived as a child, I ate my whole chocolate bunny before anyone else was even awake. I dtill struggle with moderation and can't stop myself from overdoing it. Yesterday my roommate said she was starting a detox from sugar for the next 3 weeks starting today. So she…

YouTube workouts who's your favorite?
I know there are thousands of exercise videos on youtube. But it always suggests the same ones. There are a few popsugar videos that I will do but I need some variety. Sydney Cummings has some good strength training videos too. Who wants to share some of their favorites? Link or give specific titles here. Thanks! I'll post…

Do you subscribe to Beachbody streaming?
Does anyone subscribe? It's not that expensive when you sign up for a year @ $99. I am wondering if they have a good amount of low impact programs. I had done P90X about 10 years ago and damn, it was hard. And honestly I'm not sure I can do that anymore. I see all the ads for Shaun T and they jump around a lot. They have…

Books and their movie adaptation
I've read several books that became movies. And was usually disappointed in the movie. Any good ones? And would you read the book after the movie? Or before?

The Stand by Stephen King..questions
I've read 38% of this massive 1,150 page book. I am thoroughly enjoying the story except for one part. Ok I know it's a Stephen king book, but I don't like scary / supernatural stuff. Does the man with red eyes who is in everyone's dream have a major part in this book? And will I be terrified? I almost gave up on it when…

Returning to the gym?
Chicago is relaxing some gym restrictions. My local gym, which until last March I was a member for 15 years is now doing a few classes starting Friday. Although I rarely do classes. I miss the treadmill, rower and elliptical along with the weights. My gym is big for being in the city and I've always thought they were…

Did our metabolism slow down after 50 or did WE slow down after 50??
For years, I've heard women say, "wait til you hit 50 and your metabolism slows down to nothing" True or false? For me..weight gain happened because I slowed down. When I was in my early 50's, I had night sweats and hot flashes that were brutal, but I still worked out, I was still pretty active. I put on a few pounds, but…

Working out at home..tips?
I loved my gym. I could walk there, it had great hours and was super clean. Also independently owned, not a chain. Since covid I haven't been back, even tho they are open. I did my own thing. Lifted weights a few days a week and used some cardio equipment each visit. Tradmill, elliptical, rower and stair stepper.. Now I'm…

Several members have said they are using Calm. I downloaded the app and didn't realize you have to pay for it after the free 7 days. I'm ok with paying but was going to wait before logging in my cc info. Then I checked my spam folder.. and there was an offer for 40% off your first year. Just an fyi if you are interested in…

Favorite way to burn calories?
I like a lot of different things. I love my bike and ride nearly year round (I live in Chicago) unless there is snow on the ground or it's super cold - under 32 degrees, but I don't burn a ton of calories doing that as I don't go that far most days. But it brings me joy. I also enjoy walking if I'm with someone. Currently…

Living in the past
I find myself saying "I used to... be fat, be fit, have successful career, be adventurous" The list goes on and on. They reflect both positive and negative times in my life. I'm tired of it. I'm 59, single no kids and living with a friend for both of our financial benefits. I realize I'm in a bit of a funk.. aka mildly…

Holiday baking
I love baking. But I have little self control. In the past I would make up plates for family, friends and co-workers. Now with covid.. no parties or potlucks to attend. I'll hand some out to a few neighbors and drop off some (on their porch) to others. But it's a real temptation. Definitely not making as many this year.…
