  • I think moving this to a group would be great, as it'll provide a platform to start/post discussions on a variety of topics, which will make it so much easier to follow and be involved. As for member limits, not so keen on that. If people participate, great. If not, that's ok, as everyone has different comfort levels and…
  • This was a good arm workout with dumbells. No cardio in this one. I did 15 min of cardio after. My arms are going to hurt tomorrow - yay! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3fUDu2H_RU
  • Thanks for the imput. I guess I was hoping if someone joined, they would participate, but I realize so many people post a few times and then move on, never to be seen again ... I may have done that in the past, lol.
  • Today I did a 30 min abs/ butt . No equipment. Good, but I needed a little more. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_r3AAdEFVNM
  • @dewit No, it was a 45 min, they used bands for a bit of it. I could barely walk yesterday! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lw9SsJ08AEY
  • Hey all you fabulous over 50 women. I was thinking of starting a new group for women over 50. But limiting it to maybe 25-35 people, some will naturally drop out as they no longer are active. Some of the other groups get so large and I feel lost amongst the masses. And I feel like I need to weed through so much. I'm…
  • What a cute kitty as your profile pic! Yes you posted. 😀
  • Good for you! Stay strong and if you veer off the path, make that U turn. Good luck!
  • Wow this thread is fantastic! Not new to MFP or working out. But haven't been to my gym since March. I just started working out at home this week after a few months hiatus. Today I did a 45 min low impact workout from Popsugar. The guest instructor was from LIT fitness. Thanks for all the suggestions.
  • Great article..I'm not sure what my narrative is. And thats a bit frightening/scary. I need to do some soul searching. At 59, I want to not think my self worth is related to my weight. Yet I want to continue to be healthy and get stronger so I can be that person that travels wherever I want solo (post covid obv), goes…
  • I'm 59 and have done it several ways. In my 20's and early 30's I could drop 2 or 3 sizes in a few months by cutting way back on food and working out super hard. Guess what? I gained it back every single time. I gave up and gained more weight, then right before my 40th bday, I decided to take small steps. I worked on the…
  • What a great achievement. Well done. I use a free app on my phone and definitely need to step it up. I'm averaging 7k a day.. but the last couple of days I barely hit 3000.
  • Excellent!
  • I like popsugar. On their own website as well as YouTube. I like the instructors and they usually have 3 people working out. The leader showing the moves and one to do a modification and one showing an advance move. If you're not familiar with certain exercises I would look for some instructional videos first.
  • I was going to post about my poor food choices yesterday and decided I need to focus on the positives instead. Please join in! Today I did a 30 min upper body strength workout. And more important, while grocery shopping did not visit the Firecakes donut truck that was parked outside the store. I love baked goods and they…
  • Hi everyone! I'm not new to MFP , but haven't been logging my food or exercising for quite some time. Last week I turned 59..which means I'll be 69 next year. Like so many others I was up and down with my weight for most of my life. I hit 260 before my 40th birthday and something clicked. It took several years with lifes…
  • Great advice here. I found consistency is the key. Small changes over time will yield results. Uber fast weight loss rarely works. Sure you'll see some people who never had a setback or lost 100 pounds in a year. Most did not. In my 30's I could drop 50 lbs in 3 or 4 months but always gained it back. When I hit 40 I took…
  • No advice but wishing you well.
  • Weight loss happens in the kitchen for sure. When I consistently do cardio and strength training, I feel better and tend to watch my calories more. For me, it's the whole package. Of course everyone is different. But that's what works for me.
  • It's truly a beautiful city. I've lived here or in the burbs my whole life. There is so much to do in the summer..well not this summer. It's really not all that bad in the winter, except for those days when it's sub zero. But spring, summer and fall are spectacular!
  • Today's joy was picking up some litter. I went on a short walk today and realized how much joy and happiness I get when I pick up the trash around the neighborhood. Wishing you all a great day..Elizabeth Below are obligatory pictures of Bug (cat) and Abby (dog).
  • Hi all! Great thread! I'm Elizabeth, 58, single but live with a roommate in Chicago. 19 years ago I was 260 lbs. It took several years but I maintained at 180 for almost 10 years. I was very active. The last few years I've seen the scale go up and down about 20 lbs. I was on a good streak last year and I'm back up to 195.…
  • Fantastic!! I love this post. I used to be 260 lbs and also started out slow. I had reduced so much in the past that I would lose weight rapidly and then gain it back after a month or two. After numerous attempts of "lose weight quick" I took it really really slow. I added activities and better eating habits and it worked.…
  • Start slow. But be consistent. Even if you can only walk 5 minutes. Do that, but maybe work up to twice a day and every day. Every single day. You'll find yourself progressing and enjoying that time. Look at the positives it can bring and have a mantra. Maybe its simply "live longer" or " I'm worth the effort" or "this is…
  • Sending you lots of support and good thoughts for healing. I'm sorry someone did this to you.
  • Start lifting weights asap. Watch how to videos to start and do a routine of some sort. Many many options. MFP has a sticky somewhere about lifting. Read it. Gradually build up your strength..it doesn't happen in a day. And don't be afraid of lifting heavy. I can't speak to your calories..I'm 5'7" and 175 is my goal…
  • 170. Im big boned..and old
  • But this is more important. I've seen more friends and relatives who didn't follow Dr advice. And instead listened to someone without medical knowledge. Good luck. Remember weight loss happens in the kitchen. Exercise helps us, but it's 90% food.. imho
  • Lots of options for strength training. Bands and dumbells. But for cardio, I struggled too, as I can't jump like I used to. I often mimic using a punching bag, raise arms to eye level and go at it. Roll your fists quickly. Arm circles in different positions: out at side, forward and back with your elbow up.. do them…
