Biking over walking. Order of preference: Running, Biking, Lifting, then Walking.

*Rubs toe in dirt* Yeah, that was me. Oh and I snooped - the ability to do that thing on the pole is pretty close to the top of my list.

http://www.theonion.com/blogpost/im-an-entj-destroyer-of-worlds-36075 I'm an INTJ in every way. Powerfully awkward.

That hammock! Totally jealous.

Compression socks are definitely for post run, the only time I wear them during a run is on overgrown trails, and it's basically to protect from scratches, nettle, etc. Foam roll, foam roll, foam roll. Alternately, I have a lacrosse ball that I use for massage also. While you are lying in bed hit your calves, quads, glutes…

I tried a cheap headlamp and it bounced waaaay too much. Friends of mine use ones with bigger reflector/casings and say that they work better. I found that what I like best is carrying a small LED flashlight and holding it relatively low. Many people/most people lose their ability to see color and lose some depth…

The 'Straightleg deadlift' is a Romanian Deadlift. The video is showing a standard deadlift, but he has to dip low to grab the dumbbells. Squats require the weight start elevated (at or above the shoulders). Squats and deadlifts both work the quads, but deadlifts require more hamstring and glute involvement in either form.…

I put together dry oatmeal at home (oats, sugar, cinnamon, handful of mixed nuts, and some dried or fresh fruit), then just add water and toss it in the microwave when I get to work. I also keep a pack of english muffins, and bring some peanut butter, and a piece of fruit. Covers me for breakfast almost every day.…

Do any free weights at a gym long enough and some bro will correct your form...j/k. Anyways. Focus on execution over weight at first. Check out exrx.net for some exercises with gifs of them done properly. If you can't afford a PT or don't have access to one at your gym, which would of course be ideal, then you can video…

Great race report. It's always inspiring to me as a bigger guy to see and hear about other bigger guys (and beast mode guys such as yourself) running them. I'm training for my first 50K and it makes me feel less batshit insane to see that clydesdale ultrarunners actually exist!

Going to go against the grain of many of the comments. I am not a doctor, but this is what helped me. 1) Lots of self massage - calf, Achilles tendon, hamstrings, and glutes. 2) Switch to a more minimalist shoe, something that is lower to the ground and does not have any heel lift, and has minimal cushioning and a flexible…

Once you have your gluten ball, but it into strips. Make a big pot of whatever kind of broth you want to flavor it with. My go-to's were always onion, carrot, celery, garlic salt, and cumin for faux chicken. Or onion carrot, celery, garlic salt, browning sauce, soy sauce, brown sugar, and basil for mock duck. Then boil the…

Yeah, I read the reviews about the book being "too technical" and forcing you to buy other books. I didn't get that at all. Racing Weight does not have a fully fleshed out exercise plan, just do endurance training at an 80/20 split (80% easy, 20% hard) and lift 2-3 times per week. He briefly mentions the quick start, which…

Well, I finished the book this weekend. I like the idea of it and I am definitely planning on adopting some of the advice. I definitely feel @daj150 's criticisms. To answer some more questions - Not even close to race weight currently. The lightest I've ever raced was 200 lbs, right now I'm about 210. At 200 I was fast,…

My experience has been the following: LSD running definitely leads to speed improvement, but it is a slow steady improvement. I'm inclined to think that if your fastest 5K was 30 minutes and it was taxing then an 11 min pace for the half might be aggressive this round, but definitely possible for your second, but you've…
