It's kind of an annoying habit anywhere outside the house or car, but I find that chewing bubble gum and blowing ridiculous bubbles like I did in high school keeps me out of trouble. I'm not usually much of a snacker, but road trips are my kryptonite. It's the perfect storm of boredom and lack of opportunity to physically…

... I can now fit a RIDICULOUS amount of flotsam in my pockets without stabbing myself every time I sit down... I'm approaching the tipping point where my pants pockets may or may not have more stuff in them than my bag. >_< Maybe time to ditch the bag and invest in appropriately sized cargo pants. :D

I got that you weren't being rude or anything, but the forums are kind of "discussion theater," so I figured going into my reasons couldn't hurt. ;-)

My pants "settle" once I hang my keys off the belt loop and fill my pockets with screw drivers, flash drives, pens, phone, notebooks and lip balm. At some point in the last 5 months of being overweight, I got into the habit of hitching my pants up every time I stand and massaging the muffin top back down under the waist…

^^ What Mom23mangos said. Honestly, I only look like I lift when I'm actually IN THE GYM, LIFTING SOMETHING. The rest of the time, I look like a tired Mom or a surprisingly fidgety computer geek.

Well, OP already had the usual physical list covered (body fat percentage, healthy BMI, etc), so I went into my personal examples of mental health questions that relate. I'm sure everyone's list is going to be different and keyed to their life experience and overall life goals. Entering and exiting maintenance is kind of a…

Quitting smoking is tough, though I found the fidget/habit much harder to break than the nicotine addiction. I found that knitting and folding little origami animals gave me the focal points I needed to avoid eye contact with people, which was more or less why I'd been smoking in the first place. (Social anxiety.) I think…

I'd assess where you're at mentally. Do you feel healthy and energetic? Is your sex drive where it should be? Do you feel good in your skin? If so, go into maintenance for a while and make a note to redo the assessment in 6 months or a year, or whenever you feel more navel gazing would be appropriate. There are still quite…

In broad strokes, the trainer may be correct, however - when you lose weight, you will ALWAYS lose some muscle and some fat. Making the ratio work out in your favor is why people specifically go after resistance training and why lifters keep their protein macros higher than what MFP suggests by default. Gaining a bit of…

Honestly, the anemia can TOTALLY be responsible for the depression, lethargy, and head fog. Is it iron deficiency anemia or B12 deficiency anemia? How are you treating that? I'd get the anemia symptoms eliminated and the vitamin deficiencies resolved as much as possible before undertaking an elimination diet. Honest and…

Are you getting your blood work done regularly to make sure your thyroid replacement is appropriately titrated? Definitely start with your doctor and work on creating good, steady, habits with your medication timing and compliance, then work into steady habits of logging your food and eating appropriately. The more steady…

I have PCOS on my medical file, but it's the least of my worries. That said, I DO end up insulin resistant above a certain weight threshold. I lose weight just fine with carbs, but refined carbs give me a headache nearly instantly when I'm too heavy and insulin resistant. I've found that IF eating patterns help with the…

... Psst. Everything is harder when you're doing it with a toddler sitting on your head and an infant making demands of you every 30 minutes. Rest is important and you're probably not getting as much as you need. Give your body time and credit for all the changes that are happening. Remaster your logging skills and enjoy…

Ah, here's the correct post. I have hashimotos and did a gluten free diet for 45 days. It was expensive. I am not sensitive to gluten. Being as I count calories for weight loss, the gluten free diet did not have any effect on my weight loss, nor did it make me feel any better/worse, as I am not sensitive to gluten. There…

^^ That said, I did a gluten elimination diet at one point, and it was negative for both my wallet and my reaction to gluten. :( Later confirmed by antibody test.

There are blood tests for celiac disease (antibodies) so you shouldn't have to do a gluten challenge unless you really want to. If you're having symptoms that aren't being addressed by your updated thyroid scrip, I'd gather them all up and take them back to the doctor after tracking them as thoroughly as possible.…

I find this interesting and am providing it so that you'll be aware of what doctors are also aware of - do not freak yourself out doing a WebMD self-diagnosis. >_< Just, stay alert and maintain a good line of communication with your care team. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2699000/

Honestly, if you take your meds as prescribed and pay attention to your dose and timing, other than a bit of rather predictable water retention, it shouldn't affect you that much at all. My thyroid tapped out about 13 years ago, and I can lose weight while eating carbs just like everyone else. Thyroid meds take 6-8 weeks…

Plan B generally involves a lot of protein shakes and pre-packaged food. Plan A is cooking everything myself from scratch. Plan B is generally only necessary when I travel or when I've called in a sick day. Usually there's enough pre-cooked meals around to get me through a short illness, but if everyone in the house gets…

You'll get there. Work on your logging habits and troubleshoot your diet and your medication timing while you wait for new synthroid doses to settle in. You may be more susceptible to holding onto water weight, but your fat loss rates should be as expected. Logging will help you see what water hides. Measurements will also…

Keep on keepin' on. I'm on week 3 of staring down 157-158 on the scale, but I know it will break. Just yesterday I logged all the reasons It hasn't yet. 1. I started a new workout program 2. I'm adding workout days to my schedule from 3 moving up to 4-5. 3. It's TOM and my gut is in freak out mode. 4. I was very off…

I work out M, W, F with weights. My lowest weight is almost always Monday morning before I work out. After that I gain 2-2.5 lbs that sticks with me all week +/- whatever meal I ate last, until I drop down 2.5-3 pounds over the weekend - finishing up on Monday. My deficit is designed to generate about.5 lbs per week of…

There isn't really a trick to it other than forming easily repeatable habits that make eating fewer calories than one expends a routine. How are you measuring your food? (Hint: use a food scale) How are you measuring your daily calorie burn? (Fitness tracker? Pedometer? Manual exercise entry?) How fast were you trying to…

Yesterday I went out for lunch with a friend and COMPLETELY FORGOT that my child's school FROZEN CUSTARD FUND RAISER was that evening. So I had more calories for lunch than usual, and came home to discover that I was going to be having ice cream for dinner if I wanted to stay on target. I managed to have a chicken sandwich…

5'4, 157#, BMI 26.8. Also, half Japanese. *fist bump* I would avoid using the bio-electric impedance tests you get from the scale or the drug store. My scale just told me that I am 38.6% body fat, which is probably not even close to accurate. I have a DXA scan tomorrow that should give me a much, much more accurate number…

Also, I don't know that Asian BMI will necessarily help you, if you're North American Melting Pot Asian, like many of my friends... Even the WHO doesn't have enough data to make an easy or decisive call. https://www.who.int/nutrition/publications/bmi_asia_strategies.pdf

Hey! I totally casual-stalk your posts in the forums because we're similar in height and I'm half Asian. You've managed to get into normal BMI range and that's awesome. Life doesn't stop when you hit maintenance, and even maintenance can change over time. Take a break and savor your accomplishment! You'll hopefully keep…

I like the Oster brand blenders, because I have a lot of mason jars and I drink out of a lot of mason jars, and RATHER CONVENIENTLY, the bottom of some models of Oster blenders screw perfectly onto a standard mouth mason jar. Which makes it VERY CONVENIENT for me to pre-measure my smoothie ingredients into jars and stash…
