Good luck with the race. I don't know how hilly your race will be, but if you can get hill practice, I think you should - even if just to get used to running up hill. I have the opposite situation to you; my house is surrounded by vicious hills. Hard for practice, but means races are more pleasant!

Why are you still with this guy? WHY??? I read your story - seems incredible. Is the lease the only reason?

#5 & #6 was us through and through. Out on the bike with a football first thing .... home by 6pm. Total freedom to go as far as our bikes could take us! Zero supervision. The good old days!

I use Runkeeper and my phone. As for a virtual running group, the link below is great http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1342672-it-s-the-july-2014-challenge

If you think this will get you out more, then yes!! I just bought a bike - and now that I've overcome my terror of being wiped out on the streets of London, I love it! I second the warning to do research on the bike to be sure it will serve its purpose properly!

I'm a bit all over the place - but seem to average 1am to bed and up at about 6am. Three hours short of what I need .. But can't find those three hours anywhere!

Just keep going! You're heading in the right direction, and the changes are good for you, whether anyone else notices or not. People tend to notice, but not say anything for a while. Keep up the great work, and enjoy the "handsyness"

Great thread; saving for reference! I'm learning to swim too, with the idea of doing a triathlon. Leaving is this late to learn is definitely a bad idea - so good that you're battling it now! Not much to add to all the above. The Swim Smooth, site is great. Also I've found the Total Immersion Series useful. A coach is good…
