Totally exhausted at much lower than usual heart rate
A quick question for the runners (and perhaps triathletes?) out there. I've noticed that over the past two weeks, I've felt really exhausted towards the end of my runs. That's not so unusual in itself - but I wear an HRM and it indicates about 140 while I'm dying. Normally, I run steady at about 155 and on good days can…

How long do your HRMs last?
Before I start this, just in case I forget - its not the battery!! Now that's out of the way, I'm on my 4th HRM in under a year. They keep dying, and I'm not sure whether I'm just unlucky, or they just don't last that long. I'm on a pretty standard setup; chest strap with watch; pretty popular brand too. I guess my…

Cadence - must be 180.00? (or you're not really running!)
I just ran into this cadence topic (was reading some stuff on the internet ...) . I read that 180 is the "correct" rate. So I tried this today (for about 30 seconds!) - but quickly reverted to "normal" as it felt very uncomfortable. Seems I currently run at about 120 (which is apparently a good way to get injured).however,…

Variable HRM burns for the same exercise?
I know that HRMs are not meant to be 100% accurate, but I just noticed how variable the burns can be. I cycled 20 miles in 64 mins three times (indoor bike) within a 15 hrs. The bike gave the same burn (within a couple of cals) each time - but my HRM came up with 675, 785 and 883 cals. I expect thats because the HRM bases…

Taking a month off running - good idea?
I want to get some runners views on whether it makes sense to take a break from running for a month. My main reason would be to give my knee a chance to stop hurting but I also want to spend more time swimming (rather learning to swim!) this month. Actual questions 1. Is it "bad" to not run at all for a month? Do you come…

The dreaded clicking knees ....
I've transformed from a classic couch potato to a runner of sorts - its been great: starting from struggling to get through 2.2 miles in October to running the London Marathon (pretty slowly) six months later! However, my knees have started complaining! First the right one (knee clicking, and dull pain on the inside knee…
