  • Good luck to you both! You've made a good choice at your age - don't wait until you're my age (76!)
  • I saw 50 26 years ago - but it is never too late to start on the healthy eating route! All the advice given above is true ! I am somewhat disabled - walk pretty slowly with a cane - but now that I have lost some weight I am much more active than I was! I do a formal exercise class 3 times a week called Sit & Be Fit - and…
  • It's pretty easy to copy and paste it into whatever you use for word processing - I use Word - then you can change it, add to it, save it or put it into your own cookbook file! I've been doing that for over 2 years now and have quite a collection! I think it is pretty simple to do!
  • All the advice you are getting is spot on! One thing I have not seen is this. If you plan on making this your new eating plan not just a diet to lose weight, then you need to broaden your food spectrum! If I had had such a limited array of food I would never have been able to stick with this plan for over 2 years! I'm a…
  • Type in healthy soups in your search engine and you should get more than enough to keep you satisfied this winter! Some of the winter squash soups are wonderful!
  • I too have been reading your blogs and wondering lately what was going on with you! So delighted to hear your good news! Nothing better (almost) than putting a smile on your doctor's face! What' s better is the smile n your own face! I know how much better you feel - and now that you can get that knee replaced you'll be…
  • Well done! Onederland is such a fabulous place to be when you've not been there in years! All the hard work has paid off for you! Keep on truckin'! I'm right behind you as far as going to onederland - not for just a visit but a permanent home!
  • Bertram - NW of Austin. Formerly in Conroe! And I am a da** Yankee who made the best move of her life when she married a Texan (an Aggie no less) in 1960!
  • If you don't mind an "older" friend you can add me. I'm 76, on here daily, started out at 237 in Oct. 2011 and am now at 201.8 just anticipating one-derland! I had many of the issues you are now having - and many of them are gone already! Not the husband issue because he passed in 2006. Really wish I had done this when he…
  • At the risk of being shot down, I'll make another suggestion for you! I am much older than you (76) but I am 5'3: and right now weigh 201.8 I have been working this journey since Oct. 2011 and have now lost 35 pounds - slowly but lost! This summer I hit a total plateau even though I was still eating the same amount and no…
  • Put several in a slow cooker, season as you wish, cover with salsa and cook for about 6 to 8 hours. You'll have the tenderest meals which you can shred or eat whole for almost no work!
  • All the above advice is spot on! Perseverance is the key - even when there appears to be a plateau. Stick with your plan and you'll see results!
  • At 76 I am finding it is much slower than when I was younger - but for some reason I have the will power to stick with it this time! I have yio-yoed up and down many times through the years - but I started this new way of eating in October of 2011 on Atkins - joined MFP in March of this year - and in that time I am down 33…
  • When you go that low in calories I think you'll hit a plateau lots faster - at least I did! And it has taken me much longer to break that plateau. No matter how large we are our bodies still need a certain amount of nutrition to function properly and 900 calories is really low!.
  • Most likely you have hit a plateau. The best thing is to change things up but stay within your calorie limit. I find plateaus extremely hard to live through and still stay with my goals - but I have finally learned to keep control (it has only taken me 75 years!). My example - for the past 3 months I have only lost 3…
  • I tried it and as far as my body is concerned it wss snake oil! Don't waste your money on it!
  • Bump! These are pretty much the same exercises I do 3 times a week at a Sit & Be Fit class! Great too for older folks or those of us who are handicapped and can't do the amount of walking we should do! good post !
  • Keep me in please! I may be the slowest loser in the bunch - but when I look at a 6 month graph it is trending downward! Can't ask for more than that! MAJ
  • Well done! Keep up the good work - from another retired teacher!
  • Great job - you look sooooooooooooooo good in that 2nd picture - and what a great looking family you all are!
  • I finally decided you all are completely nuts! And I love it!
  • At 75 there is no way I can run - 2 artificial hips, a knee and a fused neck. However in the past 20 months I have lost 30 pounds - I do a sit and be fit class which involves bands, balls and weights 3 times a week. I also do as much yard work as I can - it is slow but it is coming off! Keep moving as much as possible, eat…
  • I posted this earlier in reply to someone else who needed motivation - so here it is again! I am replying as a woman who gave up in her 30's, 40's 50's 60's - and finally in my 70's I have realized if I give up all I will do is gain weight. I have finally listened to my body - am eating right - and if am lucky I lose about…
  • I'm replying to you as an 'older" woman - 3 times your age - but your story sounds like mine - I have always said I was born fat - and stayed that way all my life! Not really true - but an excuse. I have been dieting all my life - in some form or manner - you name it and I have tried it! Every decade my 20's. 30's. 40's,…
  • You look fantastic - maybe like you could be your own daughter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Your face was pretty even in the first picture - but it is amazing now! How great that you are doing it now in your 20's - instead of being like me and still trying in my 70's! Keep up the good work - you have found an awesome place in MFP with all its help and motivation available! I'll be watching for your progress- from…
  • I am a member of the local school board and we heard this early in the spring. Our school district does follow the guide lines - but the sad part of all these new rules is that the kids will still only eat what they like - even if it is on their trays. The amount of fruit required to be on a tray has grown by leaps and…
  • I am replying as a woman who gave up in her 30's, 40's 50's 60's - and finally in my 70's I have realized if I give up all I will do is gain weight. I have finally listened to my body - am eating right - and if am lucky I lose about 2 - 3 pounds a MONTH! At that rate it will take me 2 years to get to the weight I can live…
  • I am delighted to join this challenge - hopefully it will give me the impetus to break the plateau I'm on! I already know I'm a slow loser - 25 lbs since Oct 2011_ but slow is better than not losing! So here we goooooooooooooo!
