Many thanks to all of you for your wisdom and perspective shared. It helps so much to hear from people who are right about where I am post-op, as well as those out more than a year or two. Some of you by my side and some of you paving the trail ahead of me!

Currently in a stall for the past 2 months... months 6&7 post surgery. The "hungry" has returned after disappearing nicely for those first months. I have started at a gym about 6 weeks ago, adding in regular exercise is one of the harder things for me. I guess I can be grateful that I don't experience dumping... but then I…

Just adding to good comments already posted... and from the point of view of a therapist (me!). In general, heat is good prior to stretching or exercises as it increases the blood flow to the area. Ice is good after exercise or after activities that irritate the area (keyboarding). The cold helps contract the blood vessels…

SW: 191 GW: 180 CW: 188 Quite a bit slowed down here too, but still in the right direction. Finally started at the fitness center middle of Jan through Feb so far... yoga and pool classes mostly. Also, good labs after 3 months off of all diabetes meds. Will continue... about 20 more lbs.

Doesn't it feel good to have a date set after all your preparation? Good for you, and keep on keeping your head and your heart in the right place.

Hi, Especially just post op I'd set behavior goals rather than weight goals... getting in the water, getting in the protein, continuing to log, walking frequency, less drugs, less naps, etc. That can help you maximize the benefit of all that you've been aiming for! Then the weight will be sent kicking and screaming out the…

So excellent! you are ONEderful!

I hadn't thought about being able to tolerate the heat better, but that will be great! I just know that its been tough handling the cold... I even wear socks to bed.

This is one area where it helps being tall, the mens Underarmor longsleeve tops work well for me... for holding in arms and belly. Of course I only buy when way on sale at Marshalls or Nordstrom Rack! Women's tops are always too short in the sleeves and trunk. But... a decent price on compression type camisoles was at…

Also anything outside! I actually love yardwork and gardening. Looking forward to more work and less breaks this year. And much easier getting down to the ground and back up again (over and over). We have a lot of perennials and bulbs, so they just come up and are beautiful... but there's always a lot of cleaning up…

I also use chia seeds. But stir them into yogurt or put in a shake, so that they're all swollen up before I take it in. Its also a nice extra texture in the food. Can also put into oatmeal. Good luck!

I went to FL for a week the beginning of January and didn't do too bad! I'd say don't take the scale, but do take all your good habits that you've built. Hoping you like seafood... I found a lot of good choices. Also, I had brought some packets of protein powder and protein bars with me so I could start the day out right,…

I know this sounds simple, but just stay with what you have been eating and doing. You've been marvelously successful, trust yourself!

I am 6 months out RNY and can do a few bites of pita, but not too much. Pita crackers go better for some reason. I really dont use the pita, tortilla, bread etc. as the "holder" of my food any more, but as a garnish. Mostly fajita filling and maybe a chip or two with it. Quite a change from "before."

Take a big breath in, stretch your arms up, reach over your head, ... Now pat yourself on the back!!!!!!! Congrats.

So glad you're doing well. Rest, drink, move, repeat. Woo Hoo!

I looked at the healthy range on the BMI chart and it was 100 to 120 less than my starting weight. One of my precious posessions is a string of mala prayer beads made out of lapis... it has 108 beads. So I chose 108 lbs to lose as my target. I move a ribbon around the prayer beads and tie it to show my changes. It adds a…

Good Morning! What a wonderful gift you're giving yourself this year. Do some planning now for when you go back to school so you can stay on track and have what you need prepared and handy. At each stage of food you get to, find what you tolerate well and be sure to have that when you need to be out and about at class. As…

I, too, was open to both. My surgeon recommended the RNY as the best for diabetics, and for my tendancy to overdo on carbs. I had my surgery in July and all is going well. Immediately after surgery I decreased my diabetes meds, and as of the week before Thanksgiving I am off of all of them! Everyone's decision is their…

5'11" here, and about 25 more lbs to go. Dealing with some of the aches and pains of being 55yrs old and fairly newer to exercise, but sticking with it!

Good for you for looking at this in such a realistic way. It was a year ago when I had the "serious" talk with my doctor because my diabetes was getting out of control. I lost 20 lbs prior to surgery, and over 50 more since. Starting to change your attitude, then your food and your activity level, and staying with this…
