Hi there , I was recently buying bridesmaids dresses and the lady in the shop told me to tie a ribbon under your rib cage and let it fall- this is your natural waist and is where the npmeasurement should be taken, If you measure at your navel then you are measuring your pelvis not your waist! Hope this helps
