  • Congratulations on getting to week 4! I'm on week 7 and would not have gotten there if I didn't have anyone helping to push me. I have about 3 close friends and my husband all taking this journey with me. They keep me accountable! I'll gladly help with some movtivation, so feel free to send a friend request!
  • Agreed. The entire process is a series of suprises and small victories. Last week (W6, D2) was the first time in my life that I ran an entire mile without walking. Each day you get stronger and go farther. I never thought I would break the 2 mile mark, but I've been doing that consistantly the last 3 runs now. I can't wait…
  • There are quite a few people who believe in the minimalist approach to running which is why you've been seeing more of the "toe shoes". I don't have a difinitive answer for you, but perhaps runner's world might. www.runnersworld.com

  • That's wonderful. Congratulations!!!!
  • I've toyed around with diet and exercise for quite sometime. The reason I feel it's working this time is I've made the conscious decision that I want it to work. Instead of thinking of all of this as a "diet", I'm thinking of it as a lifestyle change. I started with small adjustments to how much I was eating. Then I…
  • That's wonderful! I'm happy to see folks having such a wonderful experience with this process. I'm beginning week 7 of an 8 week program tomorrow and I can't wait to see how I do. I keep thinking back to how I struggled with 90 seconds only 6 weeks ago. Amazing!
  • I got the question around December. I'm a middle school band director, so for concerts I'm in front of quite a few people. The next day my principal called me into her office and proceeded to tell me how about 12 people asked her if I was preggers. I was completely embarassed and got super serious about calorie counting…
  • That is awesome! 36 min. is nothing to feel ashamed about. Just think back to the first few weeks of the program when you were only doing 90 seconds at a time. Job well done!
  • This is wonderful. Thank you!
  • 40 Days and counting. This is the longest I've gone, so I'm hoping to keep it up!
  • The big 20 min. run is scheduled for Sunday. All of your encouragement and posting is helping me to believe I can do it. Here's hoping!

  • This is exactly what I do! Skinny Cow are usually my treats anyway, so when I NEED some chocolate, I don't feel nearly as guilty.
  • I live and run in what used to be a retirement community. Most of the residents here are at least 65 years old. I'm sure they're all awake long before I start running at 8:30 am. I'm not so concerned about them seeing me run. Though, some have offered water which makes me wonder just how terrible I look when I'm out there.…
  • I started to notice a significant weight loss different towards the end of week 2. At that point is when I started losing about a pound a week. I just completed week 4 and just today started noticing a *very* slight difference in my frame and that a pair of pants fits slightly better. Congratulations with making the…
  • It's not the drinking part that I struggle with, it's getting rid of it, if you know what I mean! Only 2-3 minutes between classes and the bathroom is clear down the hall.
  • You do have quite the challenge! I find challenges with my job, though slightly different. I'm a middle school band director who is also highly involved with the high school band program. This being said, the first 4-5 months of school are the greatest challenge for me. My water intake goes down because I don't have…
  • Runaway Baby - Bruno Mars The Fame - Lady Gaga Blow - Ke$ha Misery - Maroon 5 Rumor Has It/Someone Like you - Glee (yeah, yeah, I know) I Dare You - Shinedown
  • I didn't even think about that. How awesome! I think you just sold me on getting a treadmill!
  • I would invest in the treadmill. Both my husband and I have caught the running bug so I know we would both use it pretty regularly. And as a teacher, I know that my schedule won't always allow me to get to a gym during normal people hours, so having a treadmill conveniently in my home would be wonderful!
  • Sign me up. Is there a group, or only this thread?
  • SW: 166.4 CW: 163.4 GW: 135 -3 pounds so far. Not entirely sure I'll reach my ultimate goal weight at this point, but a loss is a loss, right?
  • So, I'm starting a little late. I hope nobody minds. :ohwell: SW: (June) 166.4 GW: 135
  • Lots of great advice. Keep in mind that this site isn't exactly about a "diet" but rather a lifestyle change. Changing habits that you've had for who knows how long isn't going to happen over night. That being said, you are allowed to treat yourself every so often and you shouldn't feel guilty (as long as it's not a…
  • I don't know why I never thought to try this before. Excellent idea...
  • Welcome. I'm a novice runner as well. Isn't c25k wonderful?

  • I love my fitbit as well. I've found it helpful and motivating in a few ways. When I'm not able to get directly to MFP I can take a quick look at the fitbit for an estimate of calories burned, keeping track of steps taken and floors walked help as well. I'm always trying to be previous records. In addition, the fitbit will…
  • I completed W4D1 this morning. I'm using a slightly different program than C25K so, I had a 6 min. run interval this morning. I struggled with the 3 min. lengths last week, but made it through the 6 min. with little issue today. It's amazing how these programs work. I would not have been able to run for 6 min. without…

  • I'm starting week 4 on Tuesday. Glad to see it is do-able. I'm a little concerned as I don't think I've gotten the controlled breathing down quite yet, but I've completed all the runs up until this point. Glad there are others doing the same thing to help keep me going!

  • Everything I've read and all the information I've been given says to work on stamina first, distance second. If you are using correct form, breathing, etc. then you are building muscle and your distance will increase over time. You shouldn't push too much as you don't want to increase the chance of injuring yourself. I'm…
