I'm pretty sure the "activity level" MFP asks you for is NOT including exercise. For example, do you sit at a desk all day, or do you move around a lot? Then, you log your exercise each day (since it will vary every day) and MFP will add that to your calories for that day. Pretty good system, if you ask me.
-
The general consensus is you should eat what MFP allots for you PLUS whatever you burn off. It's a much-debated topic here, but you'll see that most people that have been here for a long time agree. There are some extremely helpful "sticky" topics at the top of "general weight loss", including this one:…

I'm your age too, and had only 20 lbs. to lose (14 down so far). Other than shedding a few pounds, keep this in mind: you're also being kinder to your body (you only get one!), fueling it with healthier foods, hopefully warding off some serious health issues that plague so many older people. That's what I mostly try to…

IMHO - if there were a quick, easy way to lose weight, we'd all be skinny. Pills may take it off, but (besides risking serious side effects), if you don't change your habits, and the way you think about food and exercise, it is a temporary solution. I believe the only way to succeed is to learn as much as you can about how…

THIS IS JUST ME (everyone is different, with different needs): Because I am nowhere near diabetic, I don't worry about "natural" sugars too much (your orange and apple). So, when I'm over (which is pretty much every day because I think MFP limits are low) I take a quick glance to see how much was added sugar. If your…

My condolences...I'm sorry for your loss. It's so hard when you can't be at the services to say goodbye. Find your own special way. Funny, he looks SO much like my Grandpa!! Amazing resemblance. He passed in 1994, hard to believe.

I see what you're saying. I've mainly been avoiding just HFCS. But I think I better watch this video and maybe rethink it. I'm going to look at the ingredient list of my bread when I get home.
-
That used to be the case, but there are some breads that say right on the front "no high-fructose corn syrup". I avoid it at all costs, and was so happy that some of the bread makers are changing things. I just suggest looking a little closer...things have changed in the bread aisle recently. I second the sandwich rounds…

Then again, maybe not. Sorry.

I highly recommend the Shred. You get so much result for 20-25 minutes. Lots of bang for the buck! It's hard at first, but gets easier. I went through my first round of 30 days, now I'm alternating between level 1 and level 2 to keep it going. I didn't care much for level 3 and felt I didn't work as hard there, so that's…

Thanks everyone for motivating me. I got up this morning and did the 30-day Shred workout! It feels so good that my workout is done for the day! If I get an opportunity this afternoon, I can get some more activity in as an added bonus. But if I don't, I did work out today. Yay! Would still love to hear any suggestions on…

I found a recipe for protein cupcakes on this site, and decided to incorporate the chia seeds. Here is the recipe as originally posted: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1/2 scoop cocoa protein powder (appx. 1.5 tbsp) 1 tbsp cocoa powder 1/4 tsp. baking powder 2 tsp. sugar or whatever sweetener you like 1 egg white 1 tbsp applesauce or…

Mine aren't dry at all. In fact, I put mine on a paper towel this morning after microwaving, and the paper towel was a bit wet when I took it off. It may be the chia gel that makes the difference (see my post above).
-
Thank you for posting this! This is one of my new favorite foods. I have one everyday for breakfast. Slight modifications: *I used 1 tsp of sugar, which I found was plenty. (I try to avoid artificial sweeteners) *I added a Tbsp of Chia gel (made with chia seeds and water...search these forums for more info on chia seeds).…

Great job! Don't undermine your accomplishments. You're going in the right direction, AND you're making a healthier you. That's ALL that matters. Keep it up!

Wow...do I know how you feel! I've tried getting the workouts in in the morning too. With very little success. I work and have a 14-year old and 11-year old, and my schedule is different every day. But every morning is the same, so schedule-wise it's the ideal time to get it in. I love the suggestion of talking to…

http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/23912-links-in-mfp-you-want-to-read-again-and-again Bottom line: you should eat all or most of them

I've tried lime juice, lemon juice, leaving the pit in, plastic wrap, aluminum foil, and combinations of all of those. Nothing seems to make a difference. I've even tried those vacuum plastic bags. Helped a little, but they're expensive and there was still some brown. I, too, just scrape the brown part off...but would love…

Keep coming back here...log your calories every day and get involved in the community. I highly recommend you go to the "Success Stories" board. There are several people there who have lost 100+ lbs. here and have posted before & after pictures. Very inspiring!! It CAN be done! Just do it the right way so that it stays…
-
Based on all of the success stories here, and as long as you entered all of your info correctly, I'd go with what MFP suggests.

WW worked for me 10 years ago. Problem was when I was done, I went back to eating like I had before. The difference here is it seems easier to realize this is a life change, not a "program". I have nothing against WW, many people have had success. But for life-long changes, not for me.

Yay! You guys are the best. I definitely have problem just putting them in water/juice and chugging them down. No problem in a muffin or something though. So these recipes will be great! Thanks.

Tam - thank you for sharing the story of your journey. What an incredible inspiration. Bumping so I can refer back when I need to! I agree that every new member should be required to read your story!

Hang in there. There is ALWAYS hope, even when it doesn't feel like it. I sent you a message...maybe it will help.

Bravo to you for "getting it"! If you give up, you could end up +5 (or more) from where you started instead of -5. Celebrate every victory, even if they seem small. Persevere through "failures" (ate too much, gained a little). Stay strong, and you WILL get there!

I wear a HRM and burn a different amount every time. For me though, the circuit training number on MFP was pretty close. Good enough for an idea. If you really want to know, consider getting a heart rate monitor.

I just want to comment on the teenage thing. I'm all for kids getting educated on being healthy. (My 11 year old now refuses to eat anything with trans fat in it because I told her how horrible it is.) BUT...the other part of this site (a huge part) is calculating how many calories you should eat. A teenager (well, 17 or…

Oooops, sorry! Just assumed I guess.
