Muscle raises body metabolism which leads to more calories burned (even when you're sitting at the desk).

I'll log everything. Perhaps the thought of having to write every little thing down might somewhat temper my intake of less healthy choices.

I'm just accepting that a slight bump in weight this week may be inevitable. Last night we went out to be with my son's family (including our toddler aged granddaughter) where we had a cookie and cupcake decorating party. Wife decided we should take pizza out there. I didn't eat any cookies or cupcakes, but for dinner,…

One thing that helps me is that I always have lots of easy healthy snacks around. There are always foods like celery, carrots, grapes, apples, oranges, whole grain crackers, hummus, greek yogurt and cottage cheese in the pantry/fridge. I have other family members who insist that there be snacks such as chips, cookies,…

I tend to mix my whey protein powders into a mixture of half 1% milk and half water.

I put equal amounts of importance on my eating and exercise which are both big parts of a healthy lifestyle.

Read a lot of articles recently about health and am now focusing on running related material. More than one of them emphasized that there WILL be runs that don't go well and that you shouldn't let it discourage you. Just go out next time and try as hard as you can to make it a better run.

Muscle is about 5 times as dense as fat. So if you lose a few pounds of fat and replace it with an equal amount (by weight) of muscle, you'll be smaller.

I'm going to loosen things up a bit for XMAS eve and XMAS day but will still log things. Going to try to enjoy a few treats I normally abstain from but will strive to limit portions of the really unhealthy but tasty foods.

I'm in week 5 in C25K, and I'm hoping to be to where I can run some 5K races in late winter/early spring. After that I hope to try to advance toward being in 10K races by mid spring. Once I get to that point, I may eventually to try to work towards a half marathon, but so far I'm just seeing how things go with C25K for a…

I consume a lot of black coffee first thing in the morning, but none at all the rest of the day (and no soda either).

Tried Atkins about a decade ago. Despite eating lots of green veggies to try to get some fiber that diet also gave me wicked diarrhea on a very regular basis. I also lost a ton of weight but it wasn't worth it.

Not sure about "Javita", but one change I made to my eating plan this year was that I was able to cut out a couple 100 calories each day by drinking all my coffee black. (Helps to use a quality coffee of course).

As I get closer to my target weight, and go into a maintenance lifestyle, I will start carefully enjoying a few occasional treats I've avoided this past year. (The occasional In-n-Out burger which I love and haven't had one all year for example. Or the occasional serving of dessert.) I think a few past indulgences will…

Taken me pretty much one calendar year to lose about 73 pounds (including a few months before joining MFP). Not sure I could possibly have done it in a third of that time.

Not sure anything would be worth being overweight (or heaven forbid obese) again. But there are a few rare treats I will enjoy this holiday season. One of my co-workers has an annual tradition of bringing in homemade treats created by his talented wife which include fudge, caramels, and toffee and they are all to die for.…

Thighs have a bit more fat (which makes them taste better of course) and seem much moister. I'd use breasts instead of thighs but my family would revolt if I did so I just accept that we have to use thighs. We do use the skinless variety however.

This year I've lost a ton of weight and I found the heat during the past summer wasn't so bad (and we had one of the hottest summers ever in our area). But now that it's turning cold (last couple of weeks the morning low has been in the single digits most days) I've really felt the chill. Been wearing a hoodie as well as a…

Today a support team that shares the floor with the team I work for has a 'treat' day with a huge spread of goodies spread all over a table just a few steps away from my cubicle. All kinds of tasty looking stuff that doesn't fit into my plan for today. Sigh.

Most days I eat 6 times, but given they are typically the following there isn't a lot of clean or dishes for the most part: at home: 1. Oatmeal/berries/protein powder (pre workout) 2. Greek Yogurt (post workout) at work: 3. 1/2 sandwich 4. Jerky, apple, celery or carrot sticks 5. 1/2 sandwich at home: 6. Dinner with…

I just get by on sheer will power as we always seem to have something in the office that is not part of my eating plan. I will need to make an exception sometime soon. One of our long time co-workers has a wife that makes amazing homemade treats (including caramels, fudge, and toffee) that he brings in each year a few days…

Stopping smoking is a whole other health issue and a tough one for many of us. I stopped back in 1995 and had to do it one day at a time. Days added up after a while. Best of luck to all of you who are trying the same.

I go over my sugar almost every day but most of it comes from fruit. I eat very little in the way of added sugars and the weight has poured off of me the last year.

You may want to check out this group dedicated to that program: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/forums/show/47-couch-to-5k-running-program-c25k- Lots of useful stuff in there.

I allow myself 2 slices of whole grain bread a day and most days I have my version of a California Turkey sandwich which includes guacamole along with cucumber slices, sprouts, and fresh spinach.
-
I step on the scale every single morning after going to the bathroom and before consuming any food or water. I keep track in a spreadsheet with a line for each week and with columns for maximum, minimum, and average. At the end of each week, whatever my average is for the week is what I put into my online trackers.

I generally boiling most foods takes away lots of flavor. I prefer to grill meats and to steam vegetables.

Yeah. Indeed it seems that many people here resented being told they had to do something and felt it should be their choice. In any case, my choice can continue to be healthy and I'm happier for it.
