  • Start again. I'm with you on this one - I lost about 40lbs a couple of years ago and have put it all back on. Giving myself a kick up the backside to start again. The good news is if you've done it before you know you can do it! You can aspire to that again. -
  • I've started going to Edinburgh Park run and it's great. There's a friendly atmosphere and people of all ages and abilities. I also find the official time results quite motivating.
  • Looking good! Sometimes when you get soaked you;re as well to keep going cause you're wet anyway :) Looks like fun! Well done!
  • hey Ashen, Thanks for the tips! Well done on your 3.1km swim - awesome time. Keep enjoying your holidays! Lxx
  • hey all, So I had my first open water practice this Sat morning. It was so worthwhile. I've never really seriously swum in a wetsuit before and it is quite different. I'll be doing breaststroke for my mile swim as my front crawl isn't up to standard yet! I noticed a HUGE difference in the bouyancy of my legs - they lay…
  • Hey Ashen, How was your 9th Aug Swim? I've got my Great Scottish Swim next Saturday!! Going for an open water swim this Saturday too. So excited about it! Lxx
  • Hmm - I might look at garmin swim watches too :)
  • So I got a smaller wetsuit and it's definitely a better fit. I was meant to go outdoor swimming tonight with a friend but she couldn't make it so I went to the pool instead. Swam 1 mile, breaststroke in 53 min, nice and steady. It felt good, I got a nice rhythm and didn't feel to tired or anything. There is the tiniest…
  • I wear a HRM and log as cardio with calorie count from my HRM so hopefully it's pretty accurate.
  • Thanks Ashen, Yeah I've ordered the medium so I can compare and maybe return one. I read somewhere that the gap at the back might cause water to collect there and you'd feel cold. I'll keep you posted!
  • Quick question......I got my wetsuit today and just wanted some feedback as to fit. It seems to fit ok but I'm actually wondering if it's too large. I'm not that tall but I went with the measurements from the sizing guide that were for waist, hips weight etc and cause I'm a bit overweight these fell into the size category…
  • Ashen - you're a superhero! 2 hours is amazing - that's a gruelling swim, I think you did great to finish it sounds tough - well done. Thanks for the tips too - I wouldn't have thought of anti-chaf but am away to look for some now!! CONGRATS!!!!! Lxx
  • Thanks ladies! Now I want a rope! :)
  • Any tips for rope climbing training? I don't really have access to a rope but wondering if there were other recommended exercises/training ideas out there? Ta L
  • Thanks Ashen, All the best with your swim. I'm really excited to hear how you get on and any sage advise you acquire. Holly 1283 - Your swim is a week or two before mine so all the best and I look forward to hearing your report too. I have been researching wetsuits and will go and try some at our local Tri store in the…
  • Getting training in for the Spartan Sprint in Edinburgh - 21st September.!
  • Hey all, I've been away for a while but getting back into it. Went for a refresher swim last night and it felt so good! Finished the physio for my back so feeling ready to go. I have my 1 mile swim on 23rd August in Loch Lomond which should be great! I'm not going for any time as this will be my first open water swim event…
  • How was your Tough Mudder CPrun? I did one on Sat 14th too - loved it - my second one so now proudly sporting my green headband - oh and a hefty dose of bruises too :)
  • This Year: Colour Me Rad 5k - June 8th - DONE Tough Mudder Scotland - June 14th Spartan Sprint - Sept Can't believe Tough Mudder is this weekend! OMG!
  • I'm so delighted to be back swimming. I went to the Commonwealth pool the other night - the only 50m pool in the city. I really enjoy the longer lengths. I swam 1km. I could have made it to a mile but it was getting late and I needed to get home. I will have to find a time when I am not rushed so I can do a long swim but…
  • Thanks for the advice! My chiropractor says swimming should be ok. It's my very lower back and pelvis that are causing me problems - my sacroiliac joint so I think front crawl kick etc ok but doc said take it easy with breaststroke kick. I'll be careful! Lxx
  • Hey everyone! I love how we've built this group :) I've had a full week off swimming since hurting my back but hope to get at least one swim in this week before recommencing lessons this Sunday. I decided to do one more session of lessons before the summer to really consolidate what I've been learning and then I can branch…
  • Thanks!! Macstraw your tips have really helped in between lessons - I appreciate all the shared wisdom! I will definitely continue - I feel like I've rediscovered how much I love swimming so I'm not giving up now! I'll have a break from lessons over the spring/summer and keep going on my own ,trying to put into…
  • I had another great lesson this Sunday - more butterfly. We just tried the full stroke for half lengths before the end of the lesson. Most of the lesson was spent on doing one arm for a while and getting the timing of the arms and legs right - it totally felt worthwhile. I'd like to have more chance to work on the full…
  • Macstraw -THANKS! So much for the support and advice. I really appreciate it. I'll try to bear in mind your tips re freestyle breathing. Off to the pool tomorrow before work so I'll give it a go then :) Thanks! Lxx
  • So we attempted Butterfly this Sunday. I have NEVER tried this stroke before so I was really excited, a little apprehensive as I'd hear it was pretty difficult, but mostly excited. We used fins - another first for me as I've never used fins/flippers before - this really helped and we concentrated on the leg motion. It's…
  • So another awesome lesson on Sunday. We focused on breaststroke again and just put more emphasis on putting all the elements of the stroke together and getting the timing of the sequence correct. I also put in some time myself during the week. I'm focusing on breaststroke for distance/endurance, as it's most likely…
  • Thanks Macstraw - all great advice! I managed another couple of practice sessions these last few weeks. This Sunday past there were only 3 of us at lessons, which was great. We repeated front and back crawl kick again. I'm still struggling with back crawl kick - I think my technique's OK but becasue it's quite slow I get…
  • So we missed a week's swimming lessons on the 2nd Feb as the pool was closed for a competition but was back at is yesterday. I've managed to go at least once or twice between lessons now and I think it's helping. This Sunday we focused still on front crawl breathing and building up the stroke. This is what I've been…
  • Yeah, that's what I'm hoping. I know practice, practice, practice is the way forward. I'm going to be more committed to getting indecent practice sessions in between lessons this time round. Also hoping to enter the Great Scottish Swim in August - that should give me time to practice and prepare!
