Thanks for all the complements. It was about -2 when we set off but wasn't all that cold by the end of the race, about 2 or 3 degrees above freezing. I did the 15K event (there was a 5 10 or 15K course: 1, 2, or 3 laps respectively) in 1hr 7m 14 seconds, placing me 15th out of 54. Best time was 53:23 - Amazing!!! 2nd was…

Actually, my regular XC shoes were fine - and they came back sparkly clean!!! Not too slippy at all.

Waste of a perfectly good orgasm if your too drunk.... Personally - I plan a romantic meal with my wife... but have a bad feeling I'm going to be dragged to foreign parts for a meeting :(

As a 1 year MFP member I can tell you that this topic comes up all the time. The simple answer is YES, you should. In more detail though - it depends what training you are doing and how often, plus what your weight loss target is. Basically you need fuel for your workouts and to keep your body healthy - so if you intend to…

In fairness - I commented before reading the article. Not sure I agree with teh comments about cycling / running being dull... but if this looks like fun to you, try it.

I've registered 550 Calories doing 30 mins of elliptical trainer (high resistance and high speed) although I was a bit heavier back then - so yes, 1000 cals an hour is quite reasonable. also, I burn about 1650 calories doing a 100 minute half marathon = 990 cals per hour. Cycling is about 750 cals per hour but I can cycle…

What an amazing story! Inspirational on every front! Congratulations and all my best wishes for the future.

Um... that sounded a bit over harsh... Sadly the scales are not a very good measure of progress - at least over the short term. If possible compliment with body measurements which are much less influenced by the last 24 hours.

My experience is that I weigh more the day after a big work out. I'm told this is probably water retention. I weigh myself daily, but I only record trends - generally I use my lowest weigh in of the week as a benchmark. I fluctuate by about 2lb these days but I have been known to be up to 4lb heavier than my lowest weight…

:o OMG - Amazing!

I think its new runners + cold weather which is leading to so many shin splints questions this week. Agree with all the above. When you have rested them a bit - try this.

I think this is because pegg's wasn't logging exercise calories before midweek
-
I'd say you were definitely on the road to success. Just be consistent and give it time.
-
I lost 30lb whilst training for my first half. I ate back at least 50% of my exercise cals.

Firstly, congratulations on your weight loss - what a fantastic achievement! Secondly, as you approach your goal weight you need to start thinking about what you might want to do next - because if it involves running for fun (and I personally think it is) then I would take a different approach compared to loosing weight as…

Forget the book - here is everything you need to get started (some specifics such as hill technique should be looked at later.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tx6x2cD6Y8Q&feature=related

Read 'Chi Running' Unfortunately its 75% hippy #### but the other 25% is pure genius and I have completely re-built my technique based on this. This and the shoes. And don't overdo the inclines to start with. And sports massages help a lot!

For running last night: Warm up: Leggings, Tracksuit bottoms, base layer (long sleeve Lycra top), long sleeve T shirt, hooded sweatshirt, running gloves After 20 minutes of runnign at 8:20 min miles, I took off the tracksuit bottoms and sweatshirt. LOL - I agree... The mission wraps are huge and tasty! and still less calories than two slices of thick sliced bread.

Depends on your end goals. If its all about body shape & general health then I would say diet + 50/50 toning work (weights) and CV work (which will tone a bit and will help you loose weight faster). This is, in my opinion, the most healthy option all round: its less stress on your body than all CV work, you look great and…

PS - wraps: Weight watchers wraps, 109Cal each - mission her wraps - 200 cals each BUT the weight watchers ones are MUCH smaller - One mission wrap fills me up. A WW one doesn't. Do what you want with that :)

I suspect you used 'battered fish portion' for you diary - which would be oven baked, frozen options Take away battered fish is 344 Cals for 150g - and I suspect a typical portion is at least double that size.
-
Can you post the cals you are working with? My home made ham sandwich is about 250 Cals (I use medium sliced bread, no spread, 1 slice of ham and some low fat coleslaw) Chip shop battered fish is very high in calories, I guess oven baked fish in breadcrumbs is lower - Fish fingers definitely are... but you need to eat…

Weights + elliptical or cycling

That was my first ever victory... I even put up a picture when I ran out of notches I was so excited Good going!

Normally after 16 pages of congratulations I wouldn't bother to add my own - but you really deserve it! I'm especially impressed by your consistency and dedication to weight loss through natural, healthy means: no short cuts, just hard work. Inspirational!

All the above is good advice - but to me the most important thing you can do at this stage is to learn about how your body responds to the things you eat. Generally speaking, for me: Low energy = not enough carbs. Probably not enough calories total! Energy peaks and then dies: Not enough slow burning carbs (Eat cereals not…

I fall into the 'no stretching required before' camp... HOWEVER I know it takes me between 3 and 5 miles to get warmed up properly. If you're doing distance training then just start off slow and pick up speed naturally as you loosen up. - but for track/speed work sessions you are better off doing 20 minutes of gentle…

I remember my first NSV: posting a photo of my belt showing I had tightened it a single notch.... Have thrown the belt away now as its to big to use at all! Keep em coming - one NSV at a time.
