  • You have a lot to be thankful for: a happy life and a very cute doggie on your shoulder :) Don't worry, the health/fitness bit will come. In the meantime, take it a bit at a time and make small changes each day. Those little victories add up to big ones!
  • I am a recovering binge eater, too. I send love and support to all of you who struggle with this. It is so difficult to break, and the guilt after a binge is terrible. Tyhe thing that we need to remember is that it isn't about food. Ok, we might reach for that first cookie or slice of pizza because we are hungry, but we…
  • @OP: Grab kitty and lift. Smooch. Aaaand release... There. You've done it!
  • @ImRadical: First of all, you look radiant! Your skin is glowing! You look so happy and healthy. And I love that you kept your sense of humor while pushing through the tough times...you inspire me! Second: Congratulations on a job well done. :) It's always difficult when we feel that things haven't gone as well as we…
  • Hello hello, 36 yrs old mama of 5 Height 5' 3" Highest Weight while pregnant 162 Highest Weight not pregnant 155 Current Weight 147 Goal Weight 120 I generally stay round 130, but this last pregnancy did something crazy to my metabolism. Thankfully after going vegan raw a few months ago, I am seeing some great results with…
  • I believe in socks! :D I lose weight up top first, always. I remember I told my sister in law once that I was a sad fat girl with no boobs. Ha! Needless to say, I'm at a better place now in regard to my self-image... Peary and loving it.
  • I make hummus about every other day from whatever bean I happen to have cooked and lying around. I use it as a sauce, spread, dip...you name it!
  • I totally agree with jfanent... if you cannot eat just one, don't eat any! I am the same way. It is difficult at first, but then it gets easier to turn down sweets altogether. In my mind, it is better to deny myself cookies now than to deal with the tremendous amount of guilt after a binge of sweets.
  • Welcome! And happy St. Pat's to you, as well. Sounds like you have a great support system at home, which is awesome. Look forward to hearing more from you :)
  • Curry powder. It makes everything tasty!
  • The best vegan places around Youngstown are Flaming Ice Cube in Boardman/Canfield, and Ely's to go off of Western Reserve in Boardman. Everything is good! Seriously! Ely's lunch salads are famous. Another place with tasty vegetarian offerings is Pho Saigon (Vietnamese and Thai) in Boardman on South Ave.
  • Hey there! First of all, you are gorgeous! And good for you for wanting to improve your health. I'm right there with you, sister :) I would follow the calorie recommendations here on MFP (the ones that were calculated for you when you entered your info and fitness goals). I don't know how healthy it is, long-term, to…
  • Agreed with what lily^ said! Smoothies/juicing is really an easy way to go, especially for breakfast. I use avocado a lot in place of processed oils. It's quite versatile! There are a lot of recipes on the Forks Over Knives website. This one in particular looks quite good and I want to give it a try tomorrow:…
  • 5'3" here, too :) Since I started eating vegan a couple of months ago, I have gone from 154-155 down to 148. Now that my energy level is high, I am going to kick up my running routine to four times a week. I am a 36 year old mama of five, and the last pregnancy seriously threw my body for a loop. It has been three years,…
  • Perhaps it's best to steer clear of even the processed "fake meat" products in the shop? You can make your own at home just as well, and without preservatives. :)
  • I really like Dr. Fuhrman and recommend his book _Eat to Live_, if you haven't read it already. He is featured in many of the documentaries that you mentioned and he goes into much more detail in his books. The Forks Over Knives Cookbook is the best one around, in my opinion. It's worth a look! Has anyone read _The China…
  • Anyone may add me, as well! I am newly vegan (started about two months ago), and mostly raw at that. I have five kids (!), and have gained about 20 lbs since I quit roller derby last year :( I live in rural Ohio, and there aren't many vegans here. So far I have had nothing but positive results in regard to my skin and…
