Congratulations and you are NOT a wuss! I started with a similar program years ago and have since completed a half dozen marathons, triathlons, duathlons 5K, 10K blah blah blah - it gets addicting so stay with it. I can't say it enough, when you start to go to races; Have Fun! You motivate me Missfancy!!

jimmmer is right on - you have to watch out for the pressure you are putting on your joints trying to 'run' at this point. You may also want to check out Jeff Galloway; he's an Olympic athlete that specializes in run/walk training.

If you want to see something outside the downtown area and get some exercise I strongly recommend the Timpanogos Cave hike/tour. http://www.nps.gov/tica/index.htm It's just a short ride out of SLC and well worth it.

You might want to try out a Hal Higdon training program. He has multiple program levels depending on your training level. You might want to also check out a guy named Jeff Galloway. He has training programs from 5k to marathon all based on a run/walk sequence. His focus is injury free running from beginners to pro. He also has an AP called Easy 5k with Jeff Galloway by lolo Have Fun!
