I heard about those - the ones that go from black to see-through...? :D

I wear Docs with my suits to work... make your own style :)

Find a tailor... they can work magic. I had a couple suits made 30lbs ago... way cheaper to have them altered than to get them made again. For maybe $20, you might be able to revive those jeans.

Sometimes, the more expensive option is the better choice, long term. Ill-fitting, thin, cheap material for $9.95 that wears out in 6 months vs. something that fits well, made from decent material, and wears well for a decade? The expensive one would be the frugal option in that case. For me, it's with footwear. I'd rather…

Um... what?

Oddly, that link didn't include parsley, so I went to Google to look it up and Google showed me a big nutrition label. I'd heard about this, but this was the first time I'd seen it come up. https://www.google.ca/search?q=parsley+potassium&oq=parsley+potassium A cup of tabbouleh does wonders for potassium, despite what the…

Decaf still has potassium, apparently.

Man. I don't log black coffee... I think I need to start ;)

Who are you addressing?

Give it a try for a couple weeks, and if it's not working, you may need to re-visit how much you're burning, or maybe try out a 15% rate. There's typically a bit of playing around to find the sweet spot from what I've seen.

So long as you know your body fat %, you can easily figure out your LBM... Weight * (100-BF)% = LBM So, if you weigh 200 pounds, and have a 35% BF... 200 * (100-35)% = 130 pounds of LBM. I've heard people say different numbers between 0.5-1.0 gm of protein per pound of LBM... I think it's part preference.

So... that's a yes? :D

So, you read the full text pubmed study?

I've added a couple to my watchlist, and hopefully they'll be offered again, but looking forward to this one.

I had made a note to go back to the thread to snag the fantastic Adventure Time response to the 'Red Velvet mixed with cheese cake' idea... I assume some clean eating fanatics went on about how chewing raw oats was much more rewarding than cheese grits, and everything spiraled out of control in a good old fashioned food…

I use weight for anything that's chunky / bulky or doesn't fit nicely into a cup measure. Meat, unless its ground, gets weighed, as do odd shaped things like broccoli, etc...

Especially this. I've seen more than one person treating a goal like it wasn't something they should HIT, but that they should try to stay away from. This is neither horseshoes nor hand-grenades, so don't fear your goal - HIT IT.

That's basically the route I'd suggest. I look at a whole week, calculate how busy I am (let's say 3 days of moderate active, 4 of light active) and then get a number for the entire week as my TDEE. Then cut that weekly number and divide the result of that by 7 to get my daily target. Re-run the numbers when you change…

Wow - they really have widened their offerings lately... there's a whole list of health courses, including a Child Nutrition course and many many others. https://www.coursera.org/courses?cats=health

EVIDENCE BASED? That's fantastic. I saw the thread and was concerned it was going to be some alternative med filled course synopsis. Thanks!

Basal metabolic rate - effectively, it's the number of calories your body would need to keep things running; heart beat, brain function, respiration, waste processing, etc, if you were comatose. That's why it's usually not good to eat below that number - your body can react poorly if it doesn't see enough coming in to…

Well, that was interesting...

I wasn't replying to the OP, specifically with my example showing 25% cut from TDEE... adding this for her benefit. One thing to note on TDEE deficit is that you can't cut that drastically once you're in a position where you have a 'small' amount of weight to lose (trust me here, 20 pounds is a small amount around here,…

Tell him you're not interested in anything but working out. Alone.

It's not a good idea to consistently eat under your BMR. I wouldn't choose "sedentary" unless you are carried to and from your couch and spend 12 hours there while being fed by servants. Lightly active is likely correct for most people if you're known to walk a little bit, clean the house, etc. Personally, I look at a…

Yes, especially if the exercise puts you under your BMR when you net the exercise in.

I've done a pretty steady 10lbs per month for the past three months on 1900-2100 per day in, and about an 45-60 minutes of moderate to fast walking, and I'm at 216lb now. You're bigger than I am, and you will need more calories than I do.
-
While I don't know what much of that is, I think we all know someone who eats a family size bag of chips and drinks a 2L of sugary soda, and stays skinny... most of those people that I know, when I thought about it, that was pretty much all they'd eat that day, and then over the next days, aware of it or not, they'd make…

I don't always log regular coffee, but I drink it black with artificial sweetener, so I consider the 5-10 calories as in my 'margin of error' :)

I will throw an apple on the scale, or a bowl of melon or a tomato or cucumber that I'll be slicing up, but I mostly only eyeball the quantity of greens in cups.
