I also want to point out that all women's periods and the severity of our cramping is different. Just because one person can continue to breeze through her normal workout no problem doesn't mean it isn't a real struggle for someone else, so pay attention to how you're feeling and just give it your best.

I used the 10k program on the Runkeeper app to work up to it. It doesn't (or at least didn't? It's been a while since I used it) let you toggle back and forth, but I would just sort a keep an eye on my general pace, with the walk breaks averaged in. I'm sure that doesn't help if you really want to quantify everything…

I've never found that it actually helps my cramps. I work through it, but I forgive myself if my performance isn't quite what I would like it to be. It definitely has an effect, but it's no excuse not to put the effort in.

I've used a few, but Runkeeper is my favorite. It seems the most accurate (I've never used Strava, though, so I can't speak to that one).

Thanks! I'm hoping I'll be Super Runner come fall! Right now I'm only shooting for 2-3 miles, but I'm hoping to progress into a long run on the weekends (when I AM able to run early). I might try the bandana trick, though. I've heard of others doing that, but I've never tried it myself. I felt like my hydration was okay…
-
I truly wish I could do that. I miss my morning runs! Getting up too early is wayyy easier than dealing with this heat!
-
Thanks, some great tips here! I especially appreciate the less time in the ac and the frozen water bottle advice. It's hard because I've been trying to build back up to running from run/walking, and as the weather gets hotter I just feel like I'm not progressing. But you're right, it's about the effort not the times. I…

I like it was a couple dashes of hot sauce, some black beans, onions, and celery seed.

Do you have RunKeeper or something similar on your phone? I would turn that on when I got to the park to track how much you walk over the course of the day. I'll bet it's a crazy amount. That might be some extra motivation! Also, make sure you keep drinking lots of water. I always forget to do that when I travel, and I…

I mitigated a binge by moderating my calories for the rest of the day. I only ended up *slightly* over my goal for the day. I also made it out for a walk, which I should be doing everyday but haven't managed in a while. A neighbor whom I don't recall meeting before saw me and said "There she is! Where have you been?"…

Just curious... do desk cycles make any noise?

I hope it helps!

Maybe try some shoes that tie instead of something that slips on and see if that helps. I know I get the worst food cramps when I've been wearing flip flops or sandals. I would think a loafer would be stable enough, but if you are wearing them large, you may be bunching your foot up in the shoe to keep in on without even…

Awesome! I'm already seeing a little bit of that after week 1. I can't wait to see the results after week 4.

It's delicious and I cook with it a lot, but I don't think it would really help you lose weight as a supplement. Great as a salt substitute though.
-
I like it on a cracker with hot sauce, or mixed up with some mustard, black beans, and onions. Yum!
-
I also weigh daily to track fluctuations. I don't think it really matters, though. Whatever you prefer.

I usually find that working through the soreness helps it to feel better, but if it's really bad, taking a day or two off in the beginning can really help.
-
Omg I could barely walk for the first week! The soreness kicks in at the beginning of every new level, but you'll really be able to feel how much stronger you are when you get to the end of a level! I suggest taking some measurements if you haven't already. My scale didn't move a whole lot, but the inches melted away!
-
I usually mark it a aerobics, general. I loved 30 Day Shred! I did it two years ago and lost about 2 inches all over my body. I just finished week 1 of Ripped in 30 and am trying to repeat that success! Good luck!!

I will tell you two things. 1.) Running is the only thing outside of medication that ever helped with my anxiety. I felt great and really on top of things when I was running regularly, and I could really feel it (emotionally as well as physically) when I missed a workout. 2.) I recently had a bad bout of anxiety and…

I used to do the Winsor Pilates sculpting dvds and LOVED them! I did them everyday for months/ years and still continued to be sore every time. Might have to add those back into the rotation, thanks for the reminder.

I try to follow the guideline of 1/4 of my plate is protein, 1/4 carbs, 1/2 veg. Something like a steak, a baked potato, and roasted broccoli (that's a staple meal in my house). This also works for pasta or stirfry... 1/4 meat (or tofu), 1/4 rice or noodles, 1/2 vegetables (a bag of frozen stirfry veg is easy, or chop up…

I deal with similar issues and have ultimately found that exercising (running is what works for me) helps SO much with not only the anxiety and depression, but with my sleep problems, that that is motivation enough for me to do it. Once I got to the point where I could run for a half hour or more at a time, I really felt…

It's harder and easier. My guy doesn't eat like me. He's constantly suggesting junk food and things I don't really want. We take turns cooking so that we each get what we like, I make sure to dish out my own portions of food, and I say no to a lot of snacks. The flip side is that he is someone I am accountable to, even…

I don't know that program specifically, but you actually should be doing something in addition to running. I learned the hard way had injured myself training for a half marathon. Most running programs call for cross-training days (usually 2 or 3 days a week). I say give it a shot and see how you feel!
-
As somebody who actually *has* been grabbed from behind while running, I tend to agree with MarziPanda. I didn't even have time to think about what was happening. If the guy had intended to kidnap me or injure me, it would have already been to late. He "thankfully" just wanted to cop a feel.

It probably depends on where you live. I live in a high crime city, and I used to run in the early morning/ early evening hours. I wore lit gear and stuck to paths with lots of pedestrians and a park with lots of other runners in a "safe" area. I felt okay about it until a guy groped me on a busy street. It was only about…

I've been doing the exact same thing. I ran a half marathon at the end of January last year and haven't done a lick of exercise since. I had planned to get through a major life event and then pick back up with my running, but then another major life event happened, and all the stress and depression that went with it left…
