Congrats on the race -- Couple of things -- It is very easy to overeat calories right before and day of race. You might eat something before the race, gels and powerade during race, snacks afterward. Then you might reward yourself after. I do that. But other thing is that if you hydrate heavy before and during a race, you…

When I was in the successful weight loss phase I tried to not eat more than 1/2 the burn because that compensated for overestimating calories burned and underestimating calories eaten. Now I'm eating back most of my exercise calories and not being as successful. Just my experience

Great job. I retired from the Navy after 25 years. I hate to rain on your parade but completely agree with brianperkins -- if you tend to gain weight you'll be constantly frustrated by the standards. You need to make "watch your calories, watch your portion size and maintain your fitness" a lifestyle change. Most time you…

these devices, like the scales use impedence, which varies depending on how dehydrated you are -- why you might have lower weight but higher BF in the morning on the device, than later in the day after drinking a lot of water. I use mine to tell me when I need to drink more fluid, and for trends, if you measure at the same…

Congratulations. Now your next goal should be to feel better (don't ever feel like you're going to pass out) during the run -- make sure you drink enough water before and during the run. I've been running races a long time and the shorter the race the worst I do relatively to the group because I am a turtle not a rabbit.…

That type of BF analyzers measure impedance which is affected by your hydration. If you are more hydrated your BF will read lower, and less hydrated BF will read more. So if you drink lots of water and weigh more, your BF may read less.

Running my 9th HM this weekend since Jan 2014. Running a race is more fun than long slow dist by yourself. Add me if you want. I've been a runner for 40 years -- slow but steady.

Red meat isn't the devil. Just make sure it's lean.

start with a neck gaitor covering your face while you wait for the race to start. Wear things that you can unzip a little if you get too hot, like a quarter zip pullover. Or use layers that you don't mind ditching (like ls t-shirt or sweatshirt that you get at a thrift shop). Make sure you have warm dry clothes at the end…

Sometimes it helps, and swimming is a good way to work muscles evenly. If you feel any sharp pains then problem and stop it, but for general muscle soreness it's good to work through it doing some cross training. Good to ice too if it's a part you can ice.

Sweet potato?

Watching a 77 year old woman pass me at the end of a race motivates, inspires me and, sigh, discourages me because I will always be slow.

5.0 started at 163, lost 40 but couldn't maintain at 123 -- the difference between weight loss and TDEE is so small for short, lighter ladies that I found it hard to maintain. Too many indulgent meals or days and I gained 15 back. Now I know I'm going to have to work a lot harder to keep the weight off. I think my goal is…

sweet potato, greek yogurt help my sweet tooth.

Happens all the time for me.... either find something else to do that makes you forget about food... or have a stash of something you find satisfying but you won't binge on. For me it was high fiber/low carb bread with a little jam, or latest is sweet potato with a little spicy/sweet sauce added, or greek yogurt. Unlike…

Invite me if you want. 54 and struggling to lose and keep it off. Been at it for 2 years now on MFP.

Yes. That's okay if you don't eat back the calories you post as exercise. If you do want to eat those calories back, recommend setting your lifestyle as sedentary when you calculate your calorie goal.
-
Plan out your dinner in advance so it fits in your calories. Control portions. Feel free to add me as friend -- easier to give advice if you open your diary to people.
-
If you want more than an estimate, try using a HRM to log your calories. And don't forget to adjust your weight in the HRM's profile as you lose weight.

54, working on this journey. Friend me if you want someone who will make comments about your diet and exercise, or offer advice if you want -- I don't push the like button for every little thing, but I try to think through what I say.

Sweet potatoes are my new favorite snack and meal side. You can doctor them in a lot of low fat, low calorie ways -- spicy, sweet, plain yogurt, veggies, etc.
-
I didnt like that negative adjustment because it takes calories away if you don't do your fitbit goal. I already account for non-exercise days in my calorie calculation and consider any exercise a + (rather than not enough being a minus).

I have found a couple of "go to" snacks that are filling and tasty. Plus they it is easier to limit myself than when eating chips or sweets. My go-to snacks are a good tasting low-carb flax seed bread (like ezekiel) that I put a little jam or savory spread on, and my latest is sweet potatoes. If you get small sweet potato,…

You have to manually go in and recalculate. Just because you change your weight, the number of calories you need doesn't change. And yes, you should recalculate because as you get closer to your goal, you'll need to either eat fewer calories or slow your weight loss down (i.e. 1 lb per week, or 0.5 lb per week) to eat the…

I tried a lot of different cushions, including those with cutouts. Now I don't seem to notice it as much as I did a year ago, but I've gained a little back.

I've been running over 40 years now, but just started doing HMs last year -- finished 7. I have always been a slow runner and am about in the 2:45 - 3:12 range depending on how many hills and if I have to stop (and how well I've trained). Agree with the people who say you shouldn't run a long run too close to the event --…

I started doing half marathons with Disney Tinkerbell the first in Jan 14 and finished my 7th last year with the Disney Avengers being the latest in November. Several things about Disney races... they are early! And it is cold no matter what time of year at that time in California. I turned socks with toes cut off into arm…

Depends on your age, current weight, height -- if you're a big person to begin with, or tall, you can still eat 2000 calories and lose weight. Your BMR will be higher than a short, older woman.

Same deal with me -- my friends saw the difference even after 20lbs but I couldn't see anything.
