Fast people say there is a difference between "running" and "jogging" but slow people know there isn't. There is a difference between running and walking, certainly -- so if you aren't walking -- and you'd have to be a speedy walker to do a 10:17 walking pace, you are certainly a runner. I've been running since 1976,…

Blackberry balsamic vinegar without oil or with a few drops of lemon olive oil. You can make fruit balsamic vinegars by reducing fruit and medium grade balsamic vinegar together -- recipe on the internet.

Find someone to work out with in the morning. Meeting someone has always been a strong motivator for me -- I don't want to be the one not to show up. Or even have them call you when they get up -- harder to ignore.

Water running and water aerobics another really good rehab activity.

It's been hard -- I backed off (not stopped) exercise and upped calories some -- and I started gaining. Obviously I don't have the balance yet. Portion control, planning, and keeping up on exercise seem to be the way ahead.

Store with a decent return policy would allow you to try it out and see if it fits and return it if it doesn't. Try driving around without the bike a bit and see if everything stays tight but doesn't rub.

The Saris Solo bike rack might fit. Only one I know that fits only one bike -- all of mine hold 2 and stick out farther than I would like. I think many of the trunk racks would bridge over the spoiler -- bottom leg(s) would fit on the back of the car and top leg(s) would fit on the top, or possibly both top and bottom…

Paying for a Disney Half Marathon 6 months in advance motivated me to keep training. (safely) Disney races have a cutoff so I couldn't just say "oh well, I'll just walk it."

I'm 5'0 -- started last year at 163 and got down to 123 but now am maintaining about 127-129 because I upped my calories and cut back some of the exercise due to time constraints (and motivation). I am happy the size I am right now -- would like to stay closer to 125 but this is okay for me. I'm running half marathons so…

I'm doing the avengers HM in the fall too. I did the Tinkerbell as my first HM and ran it in 3:12 but I'd like to get my time down so I can enjoy the "sightseeing" in Disneyland more -- if you want to hear more about the Disneyland HM experience, message me.

Rundisney posts the Galloway training program which is a good walk/run program. I followed the program for the time/distance part but didn't alternate walking because I had a pretty good running base before I started -- I don't like to alternate walking personally because I get more blisters and aches walking than jogging,…

I've run a few half marathons by myself, but think it would be more fun to be with a group even if I ran together. But don't quit -- maybe you can find a non-running friend to hook up with you near the end, take some pictures, and then go to lunch together.

Robyn, I recommend getting a HRM (Heart rate monitor) to help track your calorie burn during exercise -- especially non-traditional ones or circuits where it's hard to figure out the burn. Biking at high RPM (low tension) is a good alternate to weight bearing exercise such as dancing, walking, jogging. For eating focusing…

There are some really great running stores in the DC metro area. There are several close to your area, Potomac River Running, Fleet Feet, and Roadrunner Sports. Roadrunner Sports will video you on a treadmill to check your gait and make recommendations, some of the other ones will also. They also let you return shoes after…

I've done 3 half marathons in the last 3 months and 1 10-mile run, so am returning to longer distance running after a long layoff. Suggestions: don't eat anything you haven't tried during one of your long runs. Gel works well, but for some it's disastrous. If you get some during the race, I think eating some and then…

I have the same issue with elliptical, nordic trac, as well as bike pedals when I'm in pedal clips. I have found that with toe clips that if my pedals have a wider base there is less pressure in one place on my feet so it's likely nerve pressure. I found this article too.…

I'm 5'0" -- after losing 35+ lbs had go shopping again since none of my more formal work clothes fit (who came up with idea for dress pants without any belt loops!) and I couldn't keep them on my hips. Hate to shop for dress clothes, but the smaller size was a NSV for certain. Unfortunately I had to buy smaller sizes along…

Add me as a friend if you want. I'm 53, goal weight between 123-128. I was up to 163 so I think staying in the 120s is reasonable for me. I was as low as 100 after losing weight during military boot camp but I couldn't maintain that weight. Everyone is different though. I lost 35+ lbs by staying around 1200 cals for 8…

My dad does his shoulder rehab weightlifting with food cans. You can take jugs of water and fill them to different levels to make different weights too or even put rocks/sand in old socks or cloth bags. Doesn't cost anything.

Calorie burn depends on your weight and heart rate on each exercise so might or might not be high depending on how much you currently weigh. Hard to tell from info we have. I'm envious of friends who burn more calories with what seems like same level of exercise but a lot of factors determine the burn.

I'm 5'0 -- started at 163 and lost almost 40 pounds on a 1200 calorie diet with exercise. I didn't eat my calories back most of the time -- but didn't sweat a higher calorie day once a week (1800 or so, not totally crazy). I went from a size 14+ to size 8 pants and am very happy in maintenance in the 123-128 range. 123 is…

I've been running for a long time and have always done some sort of "mini-intervals" (not "speed work" per se). They used to call it "fartlek" or "speed play" which just makes things more interesting for you. Speed up for 10 yard, 20 yards, at a time -- set little goals by speeding up until the next light pole, trash can…

One way to do it -- you are going too fast if you cannot talk to someone because you are breathing too hard. There is a book by Dr. Philip Maffetone who uses a different "safe" heart rate theory than most books. Maximum aerobic heart rate is 180 - your age. (Not 220) Modify this number by selecting ONE of the following…

I suggest making small changes at a time that will ultimately motivate you as you have success with those. Make your "usual" serving size smaller at least a couple of times today. Substitute something healthy for your usual "faves" at least once a day -- i.e. sweet potato for white potato, or broccoli or green beans for…

Good luck to you. I know how it is to hear people whining about money when they make more than I do, so can understand it's the same for weight loss. You should also look for people as friends who are in different phases but started with as much weight to lose as you did, since they can tell you more about what worked for…

I did it most for over 8 months until I got to my goal. I'm only 5'0" though and 53 so my BMR and TDEE aren't that high. I usually didn't eat back my exercise deliberately. Best weight loss and least hunger was when I ate more complex carbs and almost no "white" starch (pasta, rice, white potato) or sweets -- so it was a…

I cook egg whites in a small skillet ahead of time for a weeks worth of breakfasts and heat them up at work. I use tortillas but you could use without. Add shredded zucchini, or broccoli or mushrooms to make more hearty. Add something spicy like salsa or peppers. Lots of things you can add to shake things up and not get…

I've been on this journey seriously for a year and now struggle to be motivated to keep it off. I'm signing up for different races to keep me motivated to run, since I've already spent the money. :) Would love to add friends who need advice and motivation and will help me keep on track. Thanks.

Try a thrift shop or consignment store to find bargains, especially when you might not yet be at your goal.
