Hi, I'm John from Austin, Texas. I completed the C25K program in August and have already run two 5K's. I got hooked and love running. I am signed up for a 5 mile race on Thanksgiving and running the 3M half-marathon in January.

hello from Hutto!

Yes you can. I started the C25K outside this summer, but finished it indoors on the treadmill. I run outside now as much as I can, just prefer running outside.

1. Run three times a week and increasing distance every week 2. Give up sodas, even for a day 3. Look at a menu and nutrional info online before going somewhere to eat 4. Wear L/XL shirts (was 3X) or size 38 pants (was 44) 5. Complete 2 5k's and starting to seriously think about doing a half-marathon or sprint triathalon…

Thank you for sharing your journey, I know it took a tremendous amount of courage to do so. I applaud you for your sobriety and combating negative body image issues. You look fantastic and seem to have achieved a level of peace with yourself. I wish you continued success in your life's journey.

That is awesome, I especially like #6. Keep up the great work and remember to take it one day at a time. It is amazing what we can accomplish when we set a goal and remain focused on achieving that goal.

I started C25K and thought I was going to die during the 5 minute run. I run for 45+ minutes three times a week now.

There were a lot of little things (seat belts, amuusement park rides, winded walking up a flight of stairs, 297 on the scale in dr.'s office) that started me thinking about weight loss, but it was not until I realized that I would be turning 42 this year that I decided to change my life. My father died when he was 42. I…

Have you tried Greek yogurt?

I umpire youth baseball, both league and select/travel, and I see this type of thing all the time. Unfortunately a lot of parents are trying to relive their youth through their children or have their children achieve the "glory" that they never did. I agree that individuals and teams should work hard and be competitive,…

Yes, there is definitely a difference. You are making progress.

I've been told that you should replace your shoes at 500 miles.

Stoneyfield Farms Oikos with Vanilla is my favorite.

Did my first 5K back in mid August. I weighed 247 and finished in 42:31. Couldn't run the whole thing and had to walk some. Second 5K was October 1st, weighed 232 and finished in 34:50. Ran the whole thing, no walking. Aiming for the 30 min mark for my next 5K.

i know exactly what you mean. I was trying on a pair of 38's yesterday, not expecting them to fit, I couldn't believe it when I was able to fasten and there was some extra room. Going from 44 to 38 feels awesome! Good job on your loss and keep up the great work.

Good job man, way to keep the priorities in order. By the way, welcome back to the boards.

You are absolutely amazing. Your story already has and will continue to inspire others. Thank you for sharing what had to have been very difficult. My hope is that it was cathartic for you and will help you maintain your awesome attitude and determinitation. God bless you.

I would say length is personal preference, but get some performance that will keep your feet drier.

Shoes--get fitted at a local running store. Everyone's feet, stride, pronation are different so get a professional to check you out and recommend the shoes that will be best for you.

I started outside then moved inside (treadmill) when it got too hot. The treadmill is great for maintaining a steady pace. However, I noticed a big difference between the treadmill and outdoors when I ran my first 5K so I have been running outside since then. I will occassionally still run on a treadmill, but I just prefer…

Completed C25K in August and have run 2 5K's. Never was a runner before, but I run 3 times a week now. Two pieces of advice I would offer: 1. Don't rush the program or be afraid to repeat a week and 2. Get good running shoes, the money you invest will pay off tremendously.
-
You can definitely achieve all of those things. Just be aware you are starting a journey. You will have good days and bad days, but stay focused on your goals and you will reach them. There is a ton of support, ideas, and people on MFP that will help you.

It's hard to say goodbye, they were long time companions. Adios boys!

I completed my second 5K this past Saturday and really improved my time. I think it is due to all the miles I have been logging lately. Super motivated by this challenge and wishing all you Costume Changers good luck this week. Keep fighting the good fight.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

You just have to push through the desire to stay in bed until getting up becomes a habit. Try to have all your workout gear packed/ready so all you have to do is get up and get going. The longer I have to mess around gathering stuff, the more likely I am to put off working out. One awesome thing that has kept me going with…
