  • I just ran the Tx Spartan on Saturday. It is tough, but not impossible to complete. Definitely run it with a team or at least a partner so you can help each other through some of the more difficult obstacles and start practicing your burpees now. If you are looking for a less intense run for your first mud/obstacle run…
  • Just ran the Texas Spartan on Saturday. It was tough but not impossible to complete. For anyone thinking of running it, start working on upper body strength now and practice your burpees. I also recommend you get a group/team to run with because it is great to have the camaraderie and help on some of the obstacles.
  • After doing both a Warrior and a Spartan, I would say go ahead and do the June Warrior Dash. The WD is a lot of fun, not very intense, no penalties for noncompleted obstacles, and a great intro to mud/obstacle runs. It really is a blast, especially when done with some friends. However, if you decide to do the Spartan I…
  • Yes, added the chia seeds. I have a Sprout's Market nearby and can buy them bulk.
  • Found this website with 6 recipes. I have tried the Banana-Cocoa and the Mango-Almond, both were great. http://www.theyummylife.com/blog/2012/03/293/Overnight,+No-Cook+Refrigerator+Oatmeal+--+A+healthy+breakfast+made+in+mason+jars+in+six+different+flavors!
  • Do it! I ran my first 5K almost a year ago and had a blast. Start a training regimen now and you will be physically prepared by August. I personally used the Couch25K and loved it, but there are several programs out there so look around and find the one that will work for you or create your own. I was surprised by the wide…
  • I did the Central Tx last November and it was a blast. If you don't run trails, I would recommend you start now as there are lots of up and downs around a dry creek bed running through most of the course.
  • Thanks Meredith for your post. It was very moving to see our city support our fallen officer and his family. My heart goes out to the Padron's and all my friends in APD. For all of you who are in law enforcement or have family members that are, thank you and we appreciate what you do.
  • I started out using an elliptical because I wanted cardio, but was not ready physically or mentally for running. Once I felt ready/able to run I moved on to Couch25K. I would recommend you find something you enjoy and do it on a regular basis. Once you start building strength and endurance you will feel more confident…
  • Polar makes a great product and I think you could go with any of them based on what you want out of it and how much you want to spend. I have an FT7 and I love it.
  • Having competed the program a while back, I think you could try C25K and back off it it proves too difficult due to your injury. The jogging for the first two weeks is pretty minor and you set the pace you want to run. By the time you get to the 3 minute runs you will know if you are ready or not. The most important thing…
  • How do you catch a squirrel? Climb up a tree and act like a nut.
  • My grandfather was a very wise man, I remember his last words to me... "Oh my goodness, a bus" When I die, I want to go peacefully in my sleep like my grandmother not screaming and yelling like the other people in the car with her.
  • I find it's easier for me if I plan everything out ahead of time and log my food for the day in the morning. Then I have a clear plan for the day and can do a better job of holding myself accountable. The other huge thing is realize you need to take this one day at a time and you will have bad days, but don't let them…
  • I did the warrior dash back in Nov. I would recommend trail running with hills. The obstacles are not that intense, but the terrain can be rough. Be sure to wear shoes you can cinch up tightly (suction of the mud is fierce) and plan on leaving them after the race. It was a blast and I highly recommend running it with a…
  • I've been using an FT7 for several months, it seems pretty accurate and consistent. Just remember to update your profile as your weight changes.
  • Start with walking, Everyday try to walk a little farther or a little faster than you did the previous day. Before you know it, you will be running.
  • When Harry Met Sally
  • I would recommend going with a Polare HRM. They have several models and a great track record for producing a good product.
  • I have been using an FT7 for several months and love it. No problems, but make sure you run the strap under water before wearing so that you maintain a good connection.
  • I don't really know how accurate it is, but I have been using one for several months and I swear by it. I feel that it is giving me good information and I think that I have been getting better results from my workouts since I started using it.
  • Yes, C25K is a great tool.
  • That's awesome! Just keep running, as you increase your stamina and distance, your speed will improve.
  • We both worked at the campus post office in college, but I didn't ask her out until I "ran over" her playing football. We are celebrating our 21st anniversary tomorrow and she still says I swept her off her feet, literally.
  • I did the Warrior Dash in November. It was a blast. Highly recommend it.
  • Remote controlled fart machine. We placed it under conference room chairs, secretary's desk, even put it in an accomplice's back pocket and would set it off while he was talking to people.
  • Take a look a the half-face ski masks. They make some neoprene ones that work pretty well.
  • Polar FT7 is awesome.
  • I ran the Warrior Dash last month in Texas. I would do some trail running or hills to get ready. The rest you really shouldn't have to worry too much about.
