This describes exactly where I am at too. (Not leaving the group but I don't quite fit the philosophy yet as I'm still exploring and learning and adapting my diet, I'm nowhere near vegan yet but I'm trying) I find this part of the forum very positive and supportive, I asked the same question about free range eggs and was…

 thanks everyone, really appreciate all the info and support! Just wanted to you to know I'm following up all your links and advice, totally fascinating, so if I haven't replied directly I have read your response and appreciate the input. If the people in this group are reflective of the vegan diet I reckon I've…

I also don't think that 2 weeks is very long to judge whether you are losing weight or not. Water, time of the month, and just....because, can all affect the scales. Check in another 2 weeks. Sometimes the inches move first and the scales catch up later.

I will get loads of really helpful scientific replies on this which will be more informative than mine, I'm no expert. But honestly and truly you need to set your calorie goal much higher. You will still lose weight and you will feel a success rather than a failure. I've been in your exact shoes.now I use a TDEE…

Cereals are fortified, you could get just as much iron from taking a multi vitamin (check it has iron obviously, lots of them don't) but I struggle with iron too, I posted about this same thing a while ago, I wanted to get all my iron from my diet without eating meat. I still struggle to be honest, there's good advice on…

Ha ha ha, thanks everyone! You all seem so lovely on here (huge sigh of relief) I'll be back for some advice on what to eat I'm sure, it's very new to me, still experimenting. Just out of interest, what are your views on free range organic eggs from local farms? I used to have chickens in my garden (gave them to a local…

Just out of interest what did you eat?

Ooohhh! Explains it. I took it a bit personally which I know I shouldn't have done. Live and learn

Hi! If you have a look at my thread called vegan butter, under food and nutrition, there so many helpful suggestions, hope it helps. Just ignore the banter  not sure why I asked the same question again here when I had many useful responses I think I just got blinded by the mean comments and decided to try here but in…

Thank you! Now I've calmed down a bit I have re-read the original post in the main forum and (ignoring the mean replies) there were tons of helpful suggestions, so I'll test some of them out. Glad I found this group, wish I'd posted here in the first place lol! Lesson learned

Hummus! Mmmmmmm

Thank you! Didn't know what I was letting myself in for with this post lol! Thanks for all the helpful suggestions everyone, I'll certainly check them out.

I haven't had a go at anyone about eating animal products. I'm currently exploring a vegan diet and finding out about my options. My husband eats meat. I don't have a go at him. It's all personal choice. I'm just looking for a diet that I personally feel comfortable with yet I somehow seem to be getting tarred with a brush…

Wow such venom on this forum, chill .... Out.....

Um why is everyone assuming I eat lots of unhealthy processed foods? I don't eat anything processed at all. I don't eat soy, refined seed oils or processed vegan products so please don't make statements like 'margarine is likely no worse than much of the rest of your diet' when you don't know me. Maybe I should have…

Totally disagree with your first point about no way around margarine, as the other posts show. Almond butter is not margarine and is not processed or full of chemicals if you pick a decent organic make. Thanks for pointing out that bread is not vegan, just went to check the ingredients and um, yeah, actually nothing in…

I'll try out Pure, earth balance and almond butter, thanks for the helpful tips, appreciate it.

Sorry? Why does that not sound right? I'm looking for something unprocessed instead of butter as I don't want to eat dairy and don't want to eat processed chemical alternatives like margarine. I don't understand what you mean by 'why not eat the real thing' ?
-
Yes, sorry, I should have explained that I can't stand margarine (urgh the thought makes me feel sick) I'm looking for something unprocessed, no chemicals, no hydrogenated fats. Like cocoa butter or Shea butter? Is that nice on toast? Anything similar?

And definitely agree with this!!!

Bump for later. I've recently started lifting so can't say if my magic number is working yet but it feels like I'm not losing (to early to say for sure) I'm going to stick it out for a full month at 1550 and see if it's working. Fingers crossed but my gut reaction is that it's not working :( Good luck OP!

Where are the photos? I'm missing out! So intrigued! And my username is similar to yours hahahaha

You mention a handful of monkey nuts, do you weigh them? I was shocked when I decided to have a 'small handful of nuts' I weighed out 40g and it was TINY and they came in at over 200cals (I think) but my point being without the scales I would have had twice as many and then been 200cal over! It's so easy to think your…

So based on that, what % do you set your macro goals at for carbs/fat/protein? Mine are pre set at the moment by MFP at carbs48% fat 32% protein20% but that doesn't give me anywhere near 120g+ of protein so I'm guessing I should tinker with my macro % What do you guys have yours set at?

My son was anaemic and the doc told me once your stores have been depleted it is impossible to eat enough iron to replenish them through diet alone and you have to have a supplement. Once your stores have recovered you can eat an iron rich diet to maintain your levels.

Bump, I'd love to know too  thanks for asking.

Hi Julie just wanted to say that I think it's a great, positive step to have joined this forum and posted on here. It is such a positive place with tons of great advice (and some not so great lol) about being healthy. I hope you find lots of emotional support to help you on your journey. The other posters are sensible…

I see the original post is 3years old, I'd love to know how you're doing now if you're still on MFP. I had a mirena coil several years ago, I ended up fat, spotty and grumpy! So grumpy! Took a while to wonder if it was the mirena, did some research, had it taken out, actively changed my diet (no motivation to do so while I…

Brilliant thread by the way! Thank you, and you are inspiring!!!
