You might also want to try interval training.....1 or 2 minutes of hard running with 1 or 2 minutes of fast walking. Increase the time of running as you handle it more, and increase the time in total over time. This will certainly increase your endurance.

I highly recommend the book called The New Rules of Weightlifting for Women.

Greetings All I have TWO daffodils out in my front garden and the lilacs buds are bursting out! I love that it is so warm but am afraid what a hard frost might do....this is totally out of character for March in southern Ontario and I worry for my farmer friends. Having said that, with snow gone, I have been out on my bike…

marking my spot. PB and lettuce is a sandwich I ate a lot as a kid....has to be iceburg for the crunch factor

with strap. I don't find it uncomfortable at all...it sits under my bra and I don't have it super tight..

Hi lucy and welcome! Getting enough sleep is important to weight loss as is drinking enough water, exercise and watching what you eat. Sometimes our bodies hold onto the weight for a while before they decide to give it up. Try and up your exercise a bit and mix it up as in, not doing the same thing every day. Take your…

Mazaron; I love curried lentils. I have made lentil burgers for my veggie daughters and they were pretty good. Lentil salad is also pretty delicious.....a traditional one or a tex mexy thing with tomatoes, cilantro, corn, hot peppers and avocado. I saw a recipe for a lentil risotto but I haven't tried it but it also looked…

Greetings All I was away for most of this week and while I managed to log all my food, I didn't really have time to read all the posts until I got home. Wow, we are all a chatty lot. I had a great time visiting family but not so great on the exercise and eating front. Actually, the eating part was a lot of fun but not…

I went for what is probably the last cross country ski of the year today, given the weather forecasts. I'm taking my skis east when I go visit my girls and other family in Montreal and Ottawa but doubt they will make it out of the car. I am going to have to figure out how I will get my exercise in as I like the extra…

I always weigh less first thing in the morning because I've had at least a 10 hour fast between my last meal and breakfast.

  one of the greatest things I learned on this thread is "the best exercise is the one you'll do" there are so many things to do to keep active....it just might take awhile to find the right ones. for two years I put strength training as one of my goals and all I did was a few…

No weight loss last week but that's the way it seems to go with me....one week no loss, the next week a couple of pounds. I'm okay with that. The inches are going down....my belly has shrunk four inches since the beginning of January and that is huge. I did a blood pressure stress test today and I am more than fine which…

Greetings All On Nancy's recommendation, I picked up The New Rules of Lifting for Women at the library yesterday and spent the evening reading it. Although I have been using weights for almost three years, I have never had a set program nor have I recorded my workouts. I figure it's worth a try. The discussion on diet was…

One of the things that I have noticed is that I often eat when I am bored/ unhappy/ generally unmotivated. When I am working out regularly, keeping engaged with something other than the TV or computer and being social, I have much more control of what goes in my mouth. In February I test drove two new book clubs and did a…

Happy March!! lisa: you have handled the situation really well. Let's hope that distance makes the heart grow weaker. mazaron: congrats! I managed to complete my February goals I'm down 5 pounds 40 hours of working out.....three hours of skiing a week sure helps I did something fun, healthy and social once a week (skiing…

Greetings All Another GREAT day of X country skiing. Gave cheques for the next 2 weekends. There may not be snow in southern Ontario but there's lots up north! I wish I could do this a couple of days a week, it makes me love the snow. And, I love the calories burned....1478 according to my HRM which is more than my daily…

Hi again Thanks for the potassium list. I did find it the other day when I was doing a search on potassium, but when I actually had entered a spinach salad into my diary, it didn't register at all on the potassium levels so I may be doing better than I thought. If you need any more incentive to exercise, I heard a segment…

Greetings All Happy Saturday! It's funny how short work weeks can often feel longer than regular ones. We were supposed to get lots of snow on Thursday night and I admit I was looking forward to a snow day on Friday, but it was not to be. I've been mucking about with the various nutrition settings in the food diaries and…

This article on muscle loss was in the paper today. We don't necessarily have to lose muscle as we age...it's a use it or lose it thing. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/health/fitness/exercise/fitness-research/with-muscles-use-it-or-lose-it-rings-true/article2342273/

@kackie.. I was unhappy with some parts of my life and I started to look for ways to make myself happier, It was reading The Happiness Project that started me on my goal setting journey. I read it last fall and started to implement the goals in November. I had already started working out a couple of years ago and had lost…

I read the posts every day but I don't always respond. I do want you all to know that I enjoy getting to know you all, I'm just not very good at remembering everything so I can respond, even though I often think, I must remember that. I had a good week work and exercise wise, not so great on the food and wine front though.…

Marking my spot and answering the question about roasting parsnipe. Almost all veggies get sweeter when roasted because roasting caramelizes their natural sugar. I often roast up a big batch of veggies....I especially love cauliflower, and you can change the flavour by adding fresh finger, curry powder and/or or garam…

Good Sunday evening X country skiing today and my HRM said 1691 calories burned over 3 hours which MFP said was X country skiing for 3 hours at a light/slow rate..... sure didn't feel light to me!! My legs were jelly at the end of the day. My kids have been really supportive of me on my journey to lose weight and get fit.…

Greetings all It's a beautiful day in southern Ontario today....finally some snow though it's a bit cold. I was supposed to go cross country skiing today but it got cancelled due to lack of interest from the group but we're going tomorrow....yippee! I've had a good week, lost the weight I gained last week and then another…

I haven't posted this week but I have been working out and eating right, after last week's total failure. My students write their food safety exam tomorrow and then it's back to the stove.....yippee! I have joined the teatotallers wagon, too many calories which I would rather eat, and I tend to make bad choices after the…
