  • My soup party last night was great, at least socially. If any of you want to host a really fun party which is cheap, fun, and a great mixer, have a soup party. 12 different soups, all delicious and very affordable for all involved. Because one is constantly trying different soups, and everyone has to wash their bowl…
  • I have had a terrible week.....all my own fault. Little exercise, too much wine and too much food. Tonight I am hosting a soup party so probably won't do well with today either but back to the gym tomorrow which is where I burn the calories. Mazaron: I bought a gel seat at Canadian Tire which I use when I ride the…
  • borrowed them for a co worker and all my kids, their friends, and I all read them over Christmas. The first is the best but they do keep you reading/
  • Today totally sucked on the food and exercise front but tomorrow is another day.
  • Happy February!! My goals for this month Lose another 5 pounds Complete 450 minutes of exercise per week Do something fun, social and healthy at least once a week Survive my new classes, especially the teaching of the Safe Food Handlers course which is the most excrutiatingly boring, but necessary, part of my courses My…
  • This was on the tv today http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/life-video/video-how-much-water-you-really-need-to-drink-a-day/article2320957/
  • I lost track of the days I did what but I managed to bike 121 miles, all on a stationary bike. One more day to go so maybe I'll try for another 9 just to make it an even number. My God, I am in awe of some of your totals. However, I also do free weights, circuit training, cross country skiing, yoga and zumba during the…
  • Good Monday morning I had a good weekend and despite two celebratory get togethers (one retirement, one new job) I managed to be down a pound. I think that what is most encouraging is that I am eating less, but not a whole lot less while exercising more, and the weight is coming off. I can live with a five pound a month…
  • I am definitely in TGIF mode. I have always felt that September is the new year, and that's even when I wasn't teaching but now, the end of a semester is like a mini new year. At the beginning of the week I was in a funk and normally, that might have lasted a few days or months. I believe that talking on here and making…
  • Good Thursday morning I can take it slow this morning because exams start and I don't have to shop for school this morning which buys me an extra 45 minutes......bliss!! I did go to the gym yesterday and worked out for a good hard 70 minutes. When I got home, my son and DIL asked if we could all go to the place I take yoga…
  • Hi everyone I didn't lose any weight this week, but I didn't gain either. Yesterday was the food portion of my grade 10's final evaluation so my calorie count for yesterday was brutal ( 3 kinds of cake, 2 different kinds of fish and chips amongst other things) Even with just taking a mouthful, it's a lot of extra food, fat…
  • Greetings All TGIF! It's been a long week and I haven't been doing so well on the eating front the last couple of days. I teach Hospitality Services at a high school and it's practical exam time so there's a lot of tasting going on. On Wednesday night, we held our end of term Culinary and Visual Art Show which is a way for…
  • I'm now at 80 miles for January and I'm really happy with that, especially since I've spent two weekend days Cross country skiing.
  • Yesterday was a great day for cross country but man, do my legs get tired. My skis are about twenty years old and I am debating whether I should buy some newer ones as they now make them shorter and a little wider. I may just rent some the next time I go to see if it makes a difference. I did burn almost 1200 calories…
  • Good Saturday everyone Thanks to all who wished me a happy birthday.....58...yeesh exermom: I got a polar FT4. I have been working out for nearly three years now and I find that my calorie burn is a lot less than MFP figures but that's probably because it takes me more effort to get the heart rate up. mazaron: nice to see…
  • It was my birthday yesterday so I blew my calorie total but that's okay. Today is a new day and I have a X country ski day tomorrow as we are finally getting some snow. My birthday present to myself was a Heart rate monitor and I used it yesterday. I think it's really going to keep me motivated.
  • I'm up to 52.5 miles for January. I've been mixing it up with weight training and even got in a day of X country skiing last weekend.
  • Well, one week down. I'm back to work today so the temptations of the kitchen will be a daily trial. I am most happy about the fact that I have really upped my exercising in the last month and by doing the food diary, I am more conscious of what I put in my mouth. I will be happy if I maintain this pace of weight loss at…
  • You can make a pilaf or if you cook it with a bit more stock and stir it frequently, it goes creamy like a risotto which tastes richer. I like to soak dried mushrooms and use the broth and dried mushrooms and mushroom liquid to get a really mushroomy taste. It can also be used as a base for a cold salad or can be jazzed up…
  • At the end of 5 days, I am up to 37 miles....whoopee
  • I'm 57 and have three kids 30, 27 and 25. I have been up and down with my weight for a lot of my life although never really obese. All my weight gravitates to my belly.....I'm definitely an apple, not a pear. I found this site last ear but have onl really started using it and the support this week. good luck to all…
  • Hamilton, Ontario
  • I do weight training once a week with a trainer. I asked her that question today. She figures I burn 600-800 calories an hour but she also said that I tend to push harder than most and take short breaks. We usually super set three different exercises and I do get winded and my heart rate is definitely up.
  • Hi I'm in for 100. I completed 14 on 1/1 1/2. My fitness goal for 2012 is to do a real century ride this summer. Being in Ontario, I will be doing my rides indoor for the winter. My gym has a really great bike where one rides 4 different trails. In the last month, I did 102 miles so I think this is do-able.
  • I thought this was the case too and the calorie counters on a lot of machines may be a bit low.
  • Hi....I will be 58 next week. I have been really good about exercise for the last three years but I have a very stubborn 20 pounds which all sits on my waist which I know, heart-wise, is the worst place for it to sit. I'm hoping that by actually participating on this site will help me keep my motivation up.
