  • I am making a mass amount of cookies for a community event. Last night I finished 175of them, and did not swipe any dough, or eat even one cookie. Hopefully I can keep up until I'm done baking.
  • Nana, you are doing an honorable thing to provide a safe and comfortable place for your brother. Please look into your local senior center and hospice services to see if you can find a volunteer caregiver to help give you a break for your own health and peace. Strength and hugs to you, your brother, and all of your family.
  • Great feeling, isn't it!! Good job!

  • Me too, AnnPT77 ...just hanging and reading...
  • Haha- I'm 62 and just about ready for yellow duckies again.
  • I just got up and took my blood pressure medication. Eye-opening.
  • Very visible success! Keep up what you're doing, it's working!
  • Good for you! Makes you stronger to know you are in control.
  • Great job! You have to be happy with yourself, and getting out of an unhappy relationship surely helped you focus on what was important in your life. A healthy parent is a wonderful example to your children.
  • To track and lower my sodium intake and try to get off of blood pressure meds. Then got inspired into the weight loss part too as seriously needed.
  • And for those of you with knee issues, the foot website I listed above is the sister site to the one I use because I am recovering from a shattered kneecap. Learning to bend my knee again and strengthen my muscles so I can move again. http://www.knee-pain-explained.com/
  • OP, your story has been mine. My workdays were way longer than normal, and I would come home physically and mentally exhausted, and just wanted to get off my feet, eat, and relax. Cooking got pushed aside in favor of grab and eat or microwave food. Junk food was easy. And fast food even better. After I became determined to…
  • Am assuming you have sought medical advice and therapy for your feet issues? Without knowing what is causing your problems, here is a great website that covers many different foot issues to look at and see if something might help you. http://www.foot-pain-explored.com/ There are exercise routines that can be found by…
  • Canned salmon recipes-go to this webpage and select the Canned/Pouched salmon. http://recipes.alaskaseafood.org/ Pink (humpback) salmon is not "junk" as someone posted. A pink salmon is just as tasty as trout or steelhead. For those with access to fresh salmon, a fresh grilled pink is delicious. There are many companies in…
  • Mostly lurking here but love reading the success of other women my age. I'm recovering from a shattered knee cap, but finally able to start exercising again. Was pretty active before injury, got really bummed while laid up and wondering how much motion I would regain upon healing. Time marches on, and am now testing the…
  • To lower my weight so my broken knee can heal easier! And carry on.
  • Situation well understood. I lost over 60 pounds, then returned to a job I had left 2 years earlier (medical) and worked huge amounts overtime, often 7 days a week. I lost control of my personal time, and exercise and eating healthy flew out the window in favor of finding enough time to sleep. Then several months later I…
  • Thank you! Feeling good to get back on track.

  • Hi Mitch. I broke my kneecap too, in June. Surgery and screws. This has really set me back as far as fitness and diet. I was not able to navigate my own home due to too many stairs, but now I am back and starting to pick up. Wonderful that you can jog again, I am not that far! The biggest motivator for me right now is…

  • I'm so busy at my work I don't KNOW how to fit in workouts and eating healthy. Often working 12-16 hour shifts, some days, some nights, sometimes every day of the week. (I have given up having a life for now.) Unstable staff with overworked people who get discouraged and leave, and those of us who do stay are putting in…
  • The beginning of a great story! Much success in life to both of you.
  • The posts above are right, people are only able to lose weight when they themselves make that decision. No one else can make you start taking care of yourself. And many times, someone pushing them can actually have a reverse effect. Most likely they are unhappy deep inside but choosing to bury those feelings and not…
  • I started back at a job I left about 3 years ago, and someone complemented me on losing weight. Said I look sexy now! (I am over 60, glad I've still got it, haha.
  • ReginaPats: Your town looks to be a good sized town. Have you looked into maybe going to a swim pool when that has senior programs (like water aerobics) and just moving? You could probably go and not exercise with the class, but stay to the side and just start by trying to swing your limbs, move your legs like walking. The…
  • Nice, ekat120. I save them too, and when I get discouraged or just need a boost I read them.
  • I tried a juicer for awhile as a once daily "meal", and took the extruded fiber and mixed it later into omlettes, muffins, chili, soups and stews as as to still benefit from the fiber.

  • I was too heavy for years and watched my BP climb up. Was in denial that it was ongoing, not a transient issue. I finally admitted it was a real issue and started meds. I hate taking pills. I tried at least 10 of the most common prescriptions, and had severe coughing reactions to each one of them, to the point that I was…
  • I haven't used calcium supplements, and have encountered many friends and medical professionals admonishing me for not taking them because I am an older woman. Interesting that this article follows my personal agenda. I am very physically active so hopefully that is helping keep my bones strong. Enjoyed the video.
  • Just read this today, interesting. http://www.nbcnews.com/health/diet-fitness/calcium-supplements-or-dairy-doesnt-strengthen-bones-study-finds-n435726
