  • Happens to all of us, and we just get up, dust ourselves off and march on! Sometimes a sidestep like this gives you more determination. I'm going to be traveling soon too, plan to take some exercise bands, my yoga matt, buy some bottles of water for hand weights, and hit up some youtube videos in my hotel room. I'll…
  • There is a group for older people, the "50 Plus (or so) Support Group", look at the blue sections at the top of the page and click on the Groups link and search for it. Also, use the search link under the Message Boards header for "55-65 year old women's success?". Lots of people under these links, and some good reads.
  • I agree! I have no idea what size to order now, except smaller! Underwear and outerwear both! I am an outdoorsy person, and mostly I am excited that I can look at brands like Patagonia, Columbia. Marmot, Arcteryx, Mountain Equipment, Ibex, Prana, REI etc, and buy things off the rack. I used to just drool over them and be…
  • Surprise was about myself, haha. Have become a food snob. Label reader. Someone at work in the lunchroom was raving about eating single serving frozen meals as she could then control her portion sizes in her quest to lose weight. After she left, I picked up the box her meal had come in. Had 720 calores, but 45g fat and…
  • If you look through before and after pics of success stories, so many of the members look younger! Most seem to take better care personal sppearance and have happier smiles!
  • High five to you!
  • Wow. I first glanced at this thread on January 31, it was on page 5. Today I saw it on the recent list with a yellow highlight box saying 3.5K new!. Had to peek and see if that was an error. NO! It's on page 122 now. That is A LOT of confessions, haha! I would venture the guess that if you are looking for a partner in…
  • Go to MFP's blog on the far right side of the blue bar above, and scroll through the pages of next topics. There are some really helpful ones. One is on the ten best free fitness videos on Youtube. Another is the best free videos for beginning yoga. Lots of insightful info on their blog page. And also remember that…
  • If anyone looks at MFP's blog, here is a link I have found really useful- MFP's round-up of the 10 best free workout videos on Youtube. I work out at home quite a bit as I live 15 miles from town. I'm going through them all. http://blog.myfitnesspal.com/the-best-free-workout-videos-on-youtube/

  • Reviving this post for MFP moderators to try and get going. So many great posts need applause.
  • I'm jealous, albalegume, my town doesn't give senior discounts until we are 65! I've been taking advantage of it other places when I travel. You DO look younger in your "after pic"!!
  • Hello! Jumping in with my two cents. Been here awhile, have lost 64 pounds (47 of it after joining MFP). I am 60, quite active, and not ready to slow down yet! I really enjoy reading the community forums. Using MFP, I have successfully lost more weight than with any other methods I have tried, for longer than I've ever…
  • Have noticed when people are quite heavy that their arms hang out at an angle to accommodate their girth. Including mine. And they swing awkwardly when walking. Noticed as I was walking towards a reflective door the other day that my arms now hang down in a normal position as I walk.
  • Believe in yourself, and remember YOU are the only one standing between you and success. We all slip up, just get back up, dust yourself off, and continue on. Best advice as above is to fit your favorite treats into your calorie count/macros for the day-it keeps you from going crazy. Forbidding your favorite foods just…
  • I've had knee issues as above. Physical therapist said one of the best things to do is strengthen the muscles AROUND your knees to help support them better and take some of the pressure off. You can probably google this, and find videos on Youtube to help. I have followed exercise videos but don't do the knee stressing…
  • You've been spying into my life, ha ha.....
  • Wow, MyChocolateDiet, you must win the prize for number of posts! Over 21,000??
  • Bump to update thread
  • Keep working on your health goals as you job search, each day can be a better day towards reducing that "chub" and increasing your confidence. Use this time to also improve your job skills with online courses, and don't hesitate to volunteer at some local nonprofit groups to increase your circle of contacts and…
  • Enjoy reading these posts. I originally joined MFP to start tracking my sodium, hoping to get off BP meds. I feel really lucky if I make it under 1500mg, the recommended limit for older people. There's salt in EVERYTHING it seems. And it enhances flavor so well! Snowflake930, I have been like you, truly difficult to part…
  • Enjoying this thread. Lots of common issues among us, we have strength in numbers! I went for a 5 mile cross country hike today, beautiful and sunny even though cold. Wearing all my new luxurious smaller size thermal base clothing. Now don't feel guilty sitting at my computer reading the forums, ha ha.
  • Like others, I'm always cold (unless I have a hot flash..) but I LOVE the snazzy looking microfiber or wool thermal base layers from outdoor clothing/equipment companies. A lot of them are now on sale as winter is passing, and I am buying! Wonderful leggings, slinky running tops, wearing them under my clothes to keep warm.…
  • Excellent way to put it! Bravo!
  • Calorie counting/tracking is an eye-opener to what your eating habits are. I'd recommend a scale to weigh food also. Can get one at Walmart for around $12. Yes, it sounds obsessive, but almost EVERYONE underestimates what they eat if just guessing. Honestly, if you are determined to lose some weight and improve your…
  • Night shifts were really hard for me, my schedule bounced all over the place with nights, days and swing shifts. My sleep was irregular, couldn't find a routine for sleep OR eating. Not good for health-migraines, blood pressure and heart rate off, looked haggard. If you work a steady predictable shift like 5 days in a row,…
  • Professional procrastinator.....
  • Just food for thought, MrM27. OP seems a bit confused where to start, and seems on a path towards doing his body more harm as he will start to lose muscle mass if he sustains the calorie level he states and only sits at computers all day. Just throwing in some websites to start him researching. I briefly googled these, if…

  • Sodakat, you are just about quoting my own story. Are you my twin, haha? Enjoying these posts. Onward, troops!
