Thank you DamePiglet! Pity about Robert Smith (my secret husband :smokin: ).

Nope it didn't work. I don't think my IQ is high enough.

This thread has the best gifs I've ever seen. I don't even know how to post a gif...

Look what else I found... IS A CALORIE A CALORIE? http://ajcn.nutrition.org/content/79/5/899S.full "Conclusion: We conclude that a calorie is a calorie. From a purely thermodynamic point of view, this is clear because the human body or, indeed, any living organism cannot create or destroy energy but can only convert energy…

Actually by 2 years only fat was significantly different I believe, and participants had also gained 40% of the weight lost with no differences between the groups. There were contrasts at 6 months though (although only minimal for protein) with no difference in weight lost or body composition. Six months is a long time for…

Are self reported degrees and IQs sufficient or should we measure?
-
Read the study. They used biomarkers such as nitrogen balance and RQ as well as self-reported dietary data. Although dietary goals were not met, they still provided contrasts for analysis. So, what fully controlled dietary manipulation studies can YOU provide to back YOUR claims Lyndsey? You're grasping at straws to avoid…

Oh no, look what I found! It seems to be suggesting that A CALORIE IS A CALORIE :noway: Effects of 4 weight-loss diets differing in fat, protein, and carbohydrate on fat mass, lean mass, visceral adipose tissue, and hepatic fat: results from the POUNDS LOST trial. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22258266 OBJECTIVE: We…

I have the One and I love it. It helps keep me moving such as always taking the stairs and using my treadmill when I have a slow day. It also helps me keep my eating in check because I know how much I burn in a day. I can't think of any cons. It has been the best $100 spend in a long time.
-
I can't believe I missed this! I tried to read backwards from part one and it had somehow morphed into a debate about IQ and Bachelor degrees so I gave up. Can someone give me a quick run down pretty please.
-
Yes, I do. I have posted the first review article before. It examines both human and animal studies. The co-author, Koob now heads the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism The dark side of food addiction. Parylak SL Koob GF, Zorrilla EP. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3304465/#!po=55.7143 "In…

I'm ba-ack! It was a great sleep and I rested my worn cells (due to the GMOs, food additives, salt, sugar and other unhealthy stuff I eat). I've got to race off to work but happy to contribute to the 500 goal.
-
It was good but nowhere near as fun as watching your complete inability to back up your bs. I'll now take my GMO affected enterocytes to bed.
-
Wow, I can really smell the desperation. Nevertheless I'll play (but I must go to bed in a minute). If you go back a few pages you will see that in fact I simply questioned the claims and asked the claimant to provide evidence to support the claims. As nutrition and genetics are both interests of mine, I would have…

I hate to break it to you but books like the ones you suggest are usually written by people to make money. It's all about the money, and a hypothesis with cherry picked data to support that hypothesis. I prefer to obtain my nutritional information from a range of sources, mainly journal articles and textbooks because it…
-
When you make a claim, it is up to the claimant to provide evidence. If I was going to claim, for example, that eating apples gives you chronic myeloid leukemia, I would be expected to provide evidence so that other posters who might be interested could read the evidence. If, when asked for the evidence, I asserted that…
-
Obviously defensive and still no evidence of your GMO effects on the GIT claims and addictive properties of certain additives. Oh dear... PS. Don't you go and worry yourself about my cortisol levels either. I'm quite relaxed about requesting scientific evidence for questionable nutrition claims and other areas of interest…
-
Yeah ndj, where are your sources?  Now I know I'm not going nuts.....
-
Oh, so you're speaking for jmv now? I didn't think you were trying to get me to eat another way. You're funny! I was asking for evidence for claims made that a certain way to eat is healthier. Obviously there is none so I suppose I should just walk away.....putting my trainers on as I type.....
-
Nope, I don't feel sensitive about my food choices at all. I'm happy with them. I also don't feel that anyone is attacking me. I thought my point was clear. I was asking jmv to provide evidence for the claims he/she made about the research showing "the negative impact of GMO on the gastro-intestinal tract" and that…

You're not bursting my bubble at all. Paleo/clean eating are both restrictive ways of eating, so my requests for evidence to back up your claims still stand. You claim that your food choices are healthier than those who don't eat 'clean' (I've heard the same statements for Paleo). You say that there is research to back…

There is a lot of misinformation in this post. Sure some food additives are carcinogens, but some 'naturally occurring' food components are also carcinogens. As an example, grilled meat, juice from heated meat, and stewed meat heated for a long time all contain heterocyclic amines which are carcinogens. Read up about the…

I've read some of his links and I wouldn't consider cell culture work to be sufficient evidence to support some of his claims. Seriously, does he just assume that people don't bother clicking the links?.....or, "Ooh, it's from Pubmed so it must be ok"....
-
I rarely read books like that, but I have read excerpts from Wheat Belly and I've read some of marksdailyapple which I don't regard very highly at all. He tries to baffle people with bs but HE is one person who I would consider irresponsible with his 'expert' advice. To keep up to date with my nutrition knowledge I tend to…
-
That's the issue for me. It's NOT based on nutritional science. In fact, from what I can see, it's based on some pretty dodgy hypotheses. "Nutritional science" rarely advocates restriction of food groups to the degree of paleo/primal, so please don't say that it is based on nutrition science as if it's a somehow superior…

Waiting.....waiting....waiting.....to hear all about the dangers of lectins (with credible evidence)
-
An oldie but a goodie!
-
Sounds delish. Thank you.
-
I just quoted my own post. Is that bad? :blushing: Anyway, Paleo/Primal sites and books are forever banging on about the danger of lectins and the need to avoid legumes but clearly a lot of this is cherry picked nonsense. If you do a bit of research excluding sites that promote the standard paleo/primal propaganda about…
