  • Unless you are very petite, you should be eating more calories. Also, don't buy the cookies! Avoid that aisle in the grocery store. If you buy them you will eat them. Don't go there. (I speak from experience.) Read a book like "The End of Overeating: Taking Control of the Insatiable American Appetite" or "Salt Sugar Fat".…

  • 3 hours a day? Not even a horse can handle that! You're going to hurt your dog with that much exercise. Seriously. It's bad for their joints. No animal naturally runs that amount.
  • Musicmint, only worry about sugar if you are getting it from processed foods (candy, cereal, desserts, bread, etc). If you are getting it from fruits and vegetables (where it is naturally occurring), then there's nothing to worry about.
  • I came on here just to say Brussels sprouts. I LOVE them. They might smell awful when cooking, but they taste SO good.
  • High intake of sodium can contribute to high blood pressure/hypertension. Personally, I try to keep my sodium down because it makes me feel awful. My joints are swollen, my knees ache, I can't take my ring off my finger, etc. I also feel constantly thirsty, a feeling I can sometimes mistake for hunger (so then I over-eat).…
  • I personally like green tea, but only a few brands. I thought it tasted like grass/lawn the first time I tried it. Test a few different brands. Try adding another tea to it. Try adding lemon peal or lime to it. Are you in the US? If yes, I like Tazo's Zen, but it's too expensive most of the time. You can try buying a…
  • Welcome! I'm new here, too. If you fancy some reading to help you make informed decisions about food, check out Salt, Sugar, Fat from your local library. It's easy and good. Not a diet book.
  • Way to go! Also, so glad that you did not get hurt.
  • Hi Chad, here's the info on TDEE: http://iifym.com/tdee-calculator/
  • I'm a fat vegetarian! Or I was. I'm a work in progress. I also ate way too many simple carbohydrates and cheese. I too thought that since I was eating vegetarian and no junk food, that I didn't have to think about portions. WRONG. I get my protein from beans and gluten. Occasionally, I'll indulge in pre-made soy products,…
  • Can you eat gluten? There are a lot of great recipes that are gluten based. Gluten makes a great meat substitute. Sorry that I can't give you advice about the pea protein. I ran into the same thing with soy. It tasted like chalk to me.
  • I hear ya. Been there, done that. The best thing I did was stop buying chips and the ingredients to make cookie dough. You would think that having to make cookies from scratch would make me stop, but, no, I would make a whole batch of chocolate chip oatmeal cookies and eat the whole bowl. Raw. I know I would still do the…
  • Living in northern DE now.
  • I'm totally an advocate for a no-meat lifestyle, BUT it sounds like you are doing it for all the wrong reasons. If you know where your meat is coming from and that it is fresh, by all means! On the other hand, please do not think that you can "get all my nutrients in one place" by eating beef. You must eat a balanced diet.…
  • I was going to post a similar question. As a vegetarian, I eat a lot of vegetables. Even that was making me go over my sugar allowance according to MFP. One mango alone puts me in the negatives! I have no added sugar in my diet, I'm very healthy, so I decided to change my food diary and get rid of the sugar column. I don't…

  • I've been vegetarian for 12 years and I love it! I'm not a great cook, but I cook all my meals. My go-to for dinner is stir fry with tofu. If you try stir fry, chop all the veggies before hand. The pan has to be HOT. You must use oil--stir fry just doesn't work "fat free." And you do have to stir! Stir every few seconds so…
  • I love cabbage. It's crunchy and surprisingly spicy! You might want to go to a salad bar at a place like Whole Foods and try veggies there. That way you don't spend a bunch of money on something you don't like. You can just buy a bite of everything. Veggies are an acquired taste. Even kids have to try them over and over…
  • Lose the weight, go to the store, try on the clothes, smile, and then put them back on the rack. Then hit the nearest thrift store and LAUGH when you buy the same clothes for 25 cents-$1. BTW, I tried on clothes at some place like Hollister a few years ago. I could not get the largest size over my boobs. I'm a 36C--the…

  • I was just about to start a topic like this. Thanks for doing it for me! I LOVE gardening. Let's see if I can remember everything I've got started: Japanese cucumbers, cantaloupes, watermelons, scallop squash, yellow squash, zucchini, sweet peppers, hot peppers, lots of various tomatoes, beans, Thai eggplants, eggplants,…
  • I think you are or were exercising too much. When I wanted to lose weight a few years ago, I started hitting the gym for 1-2 hours 5 days a week. During that time, I was always hungry. I ate a lot of carbohydrates thinking that it was okay, I needed them. I justified everything I ate by saying that I had run 4 miles that…

  • I was just about to make this same exact post! It is AWFUL. Since yesterday morning I have been craving pizza. I fell asleep last night thinking about it. My hormone crazed brain tells me, "It's okay, it's only once. You'll just eat one piece and stop." But I know that if I buy a pizza, my brain will then convince me that…
  • I'm 5'4 and last weekend weighed in at 140. I want to lose about 10-15 more pounds. I think. I have no idea how that will look on me, so I might revise. At least for me, I feel fat at 140. Weight does not sit well on me--it is all on my stomach. I need to get my body fat percentage down a good 5%.
  • Bethany, it looks to me like you are eating a lot of carbohydrate. What kind of breakfast bar are you eating? The banana, ryvita, popcorn, biscuits, fruit, casserole/lasagna all have lots of carbohydrate. It's up to you, but I would switch one of those out to something protein rich.
  • I don't have any photos yet, but I'm also 5'4". I want to get down to the 130s. I've never seen those numbers on a scale!
  • I agree with the others that you need to stop focusing on pounds. Think about your muscle mass, how much you are continuing to gain as you work out. Think about how much healthier you are by eating right and working out. Your heart is thankful, I'm sure! Can you afford a personal trainer? Maybe just for 1 session or a few?…
  • Hey Zampa, I fell off the wagon this past weekend. So now I'm kicking myself and getting back on track, too. The way I am looking at it now is that there is no option of failure. We're going to be successful this time. We might fall down every once in a while, but in the long-run, we're going to be victorious.
