  • MUCH older than most of you, and after about 173 "tries" I've lost about 78 pounds, 66+ of them here at MFP. My mantra is "don't TRY to do it, DO IT". Seems to be working for me. I'll be celebrating a year of success on April 17.
  • When I was just starting my internist recommended a SMALL handful of unsalted raw nuts as a treat after supper. The cobo of protein and fat may help you to feel more satisfied. Be sure to measure and record if you try this.
  • Your story is a great read. I absolutely agree with your "don't quit" mantra, and for the first time in my life, I'm not quitting. Progress feels great and I'm sure that meeting the ultimate goal will feel even better.
  • I feel compelled not to ram because my weight loss plan is totally based on what I need, so I'd be concerned thatit really might not work for anyone but me.
  • For me the trade off is feeling so much better when I don't partake. Since the payoff is so gratifying, it's much easier to remain abstinent.
  • Have I EVER felt like a misfit? Have I ever NOT felt like a misfit? Morbidly obese, artsy in a family of pragmatists, a musician, just the beginning of a long list here, but it's funny, the less I weigh the more I seem to morph into a quirky, funny, talented curiosity. I like that.
  • I was overjoyed to get to Onederland and am joyfully looking to become "Overweight" instead of "Morbidly Obese". I haven't felt as well in years as I do now, and I NEVER thought I'd weigh below 200 pounds again, yet here I am! FOCUS, PLAN, AND NEVER, NEVER GIVE UP!
  • Don't be ashamed of who you were- Just be wildly proud of who you ARE, MANY, MANY CONGRATS! Best feeling in the world!
  • If you plan what to eat, record everything that passes your lips, and move every day more than you did before you started you will achieve the goal of losing weight and getting healthier. Imposing artificial time limits on natural body activity doesn't help me AT ALL and can give me an artificial sense of inadequacy if I…
  • FOR MYSELF, I think that "jump start" is counter intuitive to my intention to make a change in my previously negative lifestyle. I am happy making the positive forward moving initiative to put together strings of purposefully positively organized days leading to improved overall health and reduced weight. Consider your…
  • I SO LOVE THE WAY YOU THINK!!!!!!!!!
  • Don't "try" to lose 140 pounds or 100 pounds or 200 pounds. Lose one. Just one. People who "try" can "fail". People who "do" have already accomplished part of their goal, however small. DO IT!!!!!!
  • Remember, if you lose just ONE pound, you won't have 100 pounds to lose anymore!
  • I am NOT RECOMMENDING what I do, but I eat all my calories between 5 and 8 pm because I find it much too difficult to manage night time hunger. I am losing weight for the first time in many years, and am managing cravings much more successfully than previously. I eat the same meal most nights, with an occasional diner or…
  • I don't understand why so many people have hidden food logs and profiles. I just feel as though we share a common problem, so why not share our efforts to solve it?
  • I lost the first 50 or so very quickly, but recently I've slowed almost to a stop. I take thyroid replacement hormone and I think the local weather has been SO severe that my blood chemistry may be a little off right now. Fortunately, I still feel so much better on my NO grain, NO dairy, NO sweeteners, and NO salt food…
  • I believed, before I found MFP, that I'd continue to be 100 pounds overweight. Then my doctor began to look for a blood pressure medicine that I could take without feeling like a zombie. THEN I realized that if I didn't clean up my act, I'd have to take BP medicine, zombie or not. Next I realized I'd have to stop being my…
  • I have nothing to quit. I'm so happy with the way I eat now that even when I mess up, I just want to get right back on track the next day. As a matter of fact, I DID mess up yesterday, but today I am solidly back in the game- SSSSSSOOOOO- Today I am doing veggies, fruit nuts and egg/egg whites, and feeling FRISKY! With a…
  • I went and checked it online and I thinkI do the same with what I eat every day. If it works for you, CHEERS!!
  • Hey happyfitmusician, YOU are an inspiration! I'm a newly happyfitmusician too, so naturalky, I'd like to know how your newly acquired health has impacted on your music. I've been a singer my whole life, and now as a retired woman, I have happily begun to return to performing. My weight loss has not only supported my…
  • Ten months ago I was fighting with my very good doctor about blood pressure medicine. Now, almost 70 pounds total lost, 60 pounds with MFP, my blood pressure and blood sugar are fine. Big motivation. Also, the stairs in my old house don't creak anymore when I sneak down them.
  • Emotional eater for 50 years here. Since that hasn't worked too well for me, looking for Plan B. Appreciate OP AND everyone's comments.
  • I would gladly eat 1600 calories of sugar per day and skip every other food group, but when I decided to revamp my life, I began to substitute unsalted mixed nuts for sweets, and I've had very good results doing so.
  • For ME, ONLY SPEAKING FOR MYSELF, cold turkey was the way to go, because eating a little sugar means eating more sugar, and eating more sugar means eating a whole lot of sugar and eating a whole lot of sugar means eating all the sugar I can find in the world etcetcetcetc. My eating plan has omitted sugar, salt, grain, and…
  • It's what works best for me., and I've lost almost 65 pounds since last April, most of it while I've been using MFP. I was on synthetics when I first became hypothyroid, but overall, I just felt better taking Armour. I am eating less than recommended calories but I feel great and my physical condition is much improved over…
  • I just don't like to eat during the day. I consider myself an if-er by default. This works well for me, I feel great, and I enjoy what I'm doing. Maybe we're getting too involved in semantics.
  • I don't weigh, but there are a few things, like berries that I've measured in the past by cup. Now I just take a bowl with the same amount in it every time I eat berries. I eat enough onions, peppers, and leafy greens to fill a 6" frying pan and add a whole egg and about a third of a carton of egg whites to make my dinner…
  • Address the issue of characterizing yourself as "disgusting" before you even try to lose weight. Attempting to "lose" weight means that you will be sure to "find" it after it's been "lost".
  • Just sending hugs to you all. My sweet dad died 2 1/2 weeks after my first child was born, totally without warning. I have no answers, but Ihope you will all take the best care of yourself that you can. I know that if someone has loved you they would want you to be good to yourself when they pass on.
