  • I cannot speak for other people, but I tend to hover at the exact same weight for about 10 days and then drop 3 to 5 lbs in a day or two. Hover at that weight for about 10 days then drop 3 to 5 lbs over the next day or two. It's strange but consistent for me. Perhaps your body just likes to sit at its new weight for a…
  • May 20: 200 crunches 5k run 30mins gardening 378 under calories (not hungry; I'm certain tomorrow will balance) 57 under carbs No weight change
  • May 19: Migraine headache - no exercise 37 under calories 29 under carbs .8kg down from last weigh in I got a migraine yesterday that left me curled up in a ball, in the dark, with an ice pack as the only source of relief. I only get migraines about three times a year but holy Christ do they lay me out. I eventually fell…
  • I use a Jawbone UP band, which is the same concept as the FitBit and FuelBand. It tracks my activities and uploads my steps to MFP, which is convenient. It also tracks my sleep quality, which I need for other reasons. It's light and convenient, so I don't mind using it as a tool. As a runner, I occasionally end up with…
  • May 18: 2.5 hours of gardening 69 under calories 5 over carbs Didn't weight myself It was a good, solid relaxing day.
  • Weekends are, blessedly, easy for me because on Saturdays and Sundays I get in my longer runs. During the week its all 5k, 8k, and the occasional 10k. On the weekends I get in 15-29k runs so my options for food are more open, although the 130g carb rule is still in effect. There's just a lot of salad and chicken on my…
  • May 17: 5k race with friends 10k on my own 148 calories over 38 carbs over Did not weigh myself For the 5k, one friend who just started running wanted to finish in under 36:00 so I ran pace for him. He finished in 35:25. I counted the steps for the 5k run, but didn't log the additional calorie burn. I didn't count steps or…
  • May 16: 200 crunches 50 push-ups 50 lunges No weight change from yesterday Over on carbs by 2 Under calories by 84
  • Taking away the hype words: this guy lost 84lbs in 4 months by limiting his caloric intake and exercising regularly. Yes, this strategy works. Whether or not it's safe, I suppose depends on the breakfast. It doesn't sound sustainable, though, and that's a red flag for any strategy.
  • I schedule time on my work calendar, blocked off, to get my runs in during the week. I make no exceptions to my running habits; that's my time and I become very grumpy if I don't get it. Wednesdays are hard for me because there is not usually a run on my training plan that day.
  • Logging helps me keep my carbs at the optimal level. I'm really good with guessing and estimating how many calories are in a food, but I have no idea what the carb, protein, and fat breakouts turn out to be. Logging is a necessity for me in managing my diet and ensuring I am keeping aligned with my what my Doctor…
  • I love my Magic Bullet smoothie maker! Smoothies can be a bit high in calories, but it makes getting protein easy for me, as I use protein powder. After a long, hard run, smoothies are often the only thing I can keep down. My favorite post-run smoothie: 1/2 banana, 1T peanut butter, 1/2c water, 1 scoop chocolate protein…
  • Hi, Katherine I LOVE HALF-MARATHONS. Seriously, that is my favorite race distance. I'm happy and proud of you for making that commitment. Nothing compares to finishing a long race like that.
  • Hi, Serena I am in the same boat as you with becoming pre-diabetic. It presents some unpleasant challenges with losing weight, but can be done! And we will do it! Looking forward to working with you in this challenge.
  • Hi! I am a runner in Colorado who recently succumbed to my family heritage: I'm trending toward becoming diabetic. I've not met the criteria for diagnosis, but I'm dealing with symptoms that are serious red flags, including weight gain. It was terrifying and frustrating last year when I was running 30+ miles per week,…
  • Long term weight loss goal is to reach 66kg (145lbs). Mid term weight loss goal is 73kg (161lbs) Short term weight loss goal is to reach 90kg (198lbs) I'm pre-diabetic, so keeping my carbs below 130g/day is essential for me to lose weight. Even when I stick to 1200 calories, if I consume more than 150g of carbs…
