  • I've spent the past week sick. I'm finally feeling better and have gotten in a short run the past 2 days, which felt AMAZING. I'm looking forward to not feeling so poorly and getting back to my routines of push-ups, crunches, running, and walking. I've been on vacation all week and have enjoyed the extra sleep and no…

  • Elimination diet: sweet potatoes, parsnips, cod, leeks, kale, celery, apples, cabbage. I could eat them raw, boiled, or roasted. No seasoning. Have you ever had an unbuttered parsnip? Tragic. Absolutely tragic.
  • May 17th: Went for a short walk up Mt. Carbon 261 calories over (worth it) 10 carbs under Tomorrow I'll actually step on a scale and see where this sickness has left me. My activity has been so very, very low with the exception of Saturday's gardening. My pants are sagging, so I know my composition has changed, but I'm not…
  • Just from my experience: I can run 30 - 50 miles per week and have no knee pain. I can bike about 15 miles per week, any more than that and my knees hurt. I don't know why. I don't question why; I just don't bike more than 15 miles per week. Is there any research on high protein diets causing joint pain? You've done…
  • A 1 lb. fluctuation is normal. NORMAL. You could have selected weigh days that happened to fall poorly in your hormone cycle, or during sodium intake, or after a few days of excessive fiber or cheese intake. If you're losing inches but the scale isn't moving, stop looking at the scale. I'm in the same boat, currently. My…
  • Well...a couple of things. It is a STOUT hot beverage, and when it's 75-degrees out, it's a bit too much for me. However, as I'm contemplating coming in from a long winter run (or, you know, just sitting by the fire on a Sunday in January), this beverage will be perfect. I can see enjoying this in the cold months as a…
  • May 26th: Still so, so sick - adding bronchitis to the strep (yay!) No exercise (because I can't breathe) 67 under calories 40 over on carbs I was willing to eat whatever I would stay down. • My weekend is going splendidly. I got in 6 hours of gardening yesterday and today I'm preparing my "processed food." I make my own mayonnaise, yogurt, cheese, and canned goods and generally make a month's worth of products the last weekend of the month. I love productive weekends, so I'm excited about how much I've gotten…
  • I'm giving this a try this afternoon. I'm....wary of the flavor I'm going to encounter, but excited to give it a go.
  • Today is a day of cooking for me. I'm making sauerkraut, mayonnaise, yogurt, beef stock, and cheese. I set some sun tea out to brew this morning, which will be delicious. The weather outside is glorious and I really wish I could run, but the gardening yesterday left me very sore in the "everywhere" area, so I won't push it.
  • May 24: Still sick as hell 6 hours gardening (absurd amount of calories burned) 705 calories remaining (I ate ~1600) 32 carbs over Contacted the Dr about the persistent strep. I'm getting a heftier antibiotic tomorrow, since what I'm taking should have resolved any symptoms by now.

  • I drink a cup of tea in the evening. The warmth of the tea seems to help me with feeling satisfied.
  • As a current resident of Morrison, CO, I tell you that we got 12" of snow for Mother's Day. A foot of snow. I hope that was the last of it.
  • May 22: No exercise - strep is sucking muchly 77 calories under 6 carbs under .3kg down from the last time I weighed Today (May 23) I am feeling a bit better, but not top notch yet.
  • My experience with decreased calories and limited exercise was overwhelmingly negative. I gave it a go and found I just didn't have enough energy for the day. My work and relationships suffered, which doesn't align with my priorities or values. The lack of energy eventually led me to eating more and no longer losing…
  • Yes, the weather affects my mood. Living in Colorado, where we get outrageous wind storms, I've found that strong wind makes me very irritable. I don't mind rain as long as I don't have to be out in it, although I love running in a heavy fog.
  • May 21: No exercise - I have strep 219 calories under 23 carbs under The inability to swallow impeded the ability to get sufficient calories. Such is life. I've got antibiotics and am looking forward to feeling better. Hopefully in time for a run today.
  • Breakfast at McDonald's this morning and it was delicious. I know McDonald's gets a lot of flack for having "unhealthy" options, but the reality is that McDonald's is a business who meets the convenience needs of the majority, not the nutrition needs of the dieting minority. It's also true that the people who complain…
  • Well done on managing your carbs. I would be insufferable on so few carbs, but it sounds like you prepared and planned well, considering your variety of fat/protein intake. I am SO jealous of your fresh chicken eggs! I get mine from a friend who has chickens and fresh eggs are so drastically different from the store bought.
