  • I don't think I've ever posted an intro here, so here goes! Hello all! I am 48. I was overweight back in 2007 and lost 25 pounds in 2008. Then I got married and started slowly gaining again in 2009. Only this time I gained back the 27 pounds, plus about 10 more. I use to be an exercise buff and was in great shape all until…
  • Hello all! I joined around the beginning of April. I was overweight back in 2007 and lost 25 pounds in 2008. Then I got married and started slowly gaining again in 2009. Only this time I gained back the 27 pounds, plus about 10 more. I use to be an exercise buff and was in great shape all until I hit 40. I use to could eat…
  • All great to hear. I notice some of you walk several miles in a one given day. I generally walk about 3-5 days a week, 2-3 longer walks of about 2-3 miles, then two shorter days of about 3/4 mile. I average about 4 days a week of walking. I eat decent. I keep my calories below my goal most days, although some of the foods…
  • Hello all! I am 48 and I think in the beginning stages of Peri-Menopause. I was overweight back in 2007 and lost 25 pounds in 2008. Then I got married and started slowly gaining again in 2009. Only this time I gained back the 27 pounds, plus about 10 more. I use to be an exercise buff and was in great shape all until I hit…
  • Thanks for all your replies and great advice! I could eat better, but it could be a whole lot worse. .I snack on things like string cheese, triscuits, yogurt, cherry tomatoes and almonds. And usually have corn, beans or green beans for veggies. Occasionally, I eat a salad, but finding a healthy dressing I like is another…
  • Awesome everyone! I walk 3-5 days a week. 2-3 days leisurely stroll with my dog for about 1/2 hour at 3/4 mile, then 2-3 days a week at about 3.5 mph for about 50 minutes at about 3 miles. I try to shoot for at least 3 longer days. I am also keeping my calories under 1488 even though my doctor says I should lose as long as…
  • I have a couple that I alternate. My first one and main one consists of spinach, bananas, mangos and pineapple. Sometimes, I switch up the greens and use kale instead. My other one I do the same way mixing up the greens, but it's spinach, strawberries, blackberries and blueberries.
  • The calorie calculator here is incredibly low. It said like 1300 for me...crazy low for me. There are lots of calorie calculator out there, give them a try. I tried like 5 different calculators AND even asked my doctor what my calorie limit was to lose weight and the calculators, plus my doctor all said I should eat less…
  • The yolk is my favorite part! I often eat one or two hard boiled eggs or somethings an egg sandwich.
  • Again, thanks so much for the great comments! And thank you for the link to a recipe!
  • Sorry to have started such a controversial topic. I take all your comments seriously. I don't mind cooking for hubby, as I only work occasional part time and he works full time and he cooks me breakfast every Sunday and occasionally (not very often though) takes me out to dinner. I do wish he'd be a little more…
  • First of all, thank you so much for all your replies. If I follow my plan for today, I should still be calorie deficient. I don't want to say I can't have something and deprive myself, that's just setting myself up for failure realistically. And yes, somethings can be fixed healthier, but I have yet to ever taste anything…
  • As much as I hate chicken breast, I bought some the other day. I'll have them for dinner one day and then maybe a salad here and there. I can eat tuna out of the can sometimes, but prefer tuna salad.
  • I could definitely use more water. I'm not really hungry mornings, it's more afternoons in between lunch and dinner. I try not to eat anything past 8 pm because I go to bed between 11 pm and 1 am.
  • Having smoothies for breakfast is easy for me because most times I skip breakfast all together, so it works well for me.
  • I changed my calorie limit to about 1460 a day because it was too low...1300. I used a fitness calculator based on my height, weight activity level and age and how much weight I wanna lose by when, it says 1460.
  • Are sunflower seeds good? I love those. I go over a little each day...not by a whole lot, but still I go over. My calorie limit is set at 1340. I walk my dog 5 days a week for 3/4 mile, then also 3 of those days I also walk 2 miles. I'm a work in progress, just trying not to get overwhelmed. I do LOVE my food so that's…
  • Yes, I think I need a little more protein and water.
  • My eating hasn't been that great. I just started slowly trying to ease into eating healthier, little at a time. I have a Green Smoothie (love my smoothies & they make me feel better) and two hard boiled eggs (for protein) for breakfast or lunch. I'm thinking of just adding flax seed or chia to them. Usually lunch is a…
  • It's the exact same way for me. I'm going to start ignoring it. The AHA set a limit of suggested sugar intake of 30 grams per day max, which is equivalent to only 120 calories per day or about one quarter of average current consumption. Just read... What about the naturally-occurring sugars in fruits, vegetables, and other…
  • I feel the same way. I am always tired, fatigued and unmotivated. I never feel like it either, but I find when I just get up and put on workout clothes....that usually leads to getting me out the door. I just aim to walk at least 3 days a week and go for 5 days if I have it in me. I walk for at least 30 minutes, usually at…
  • I totally understand how you feel. Ever since I turned 40 I've been steadily gaining weight. Now I am 48 and about 45 pounds give or take, overweight. Losing weight after 40 I definitely find harder. I am just trying to ease slowly into healthier living. Making small changes as I go. I'm walking about 5 days a week. Two…
  • I want to eventually lose about 45 pounds. And I have a goal of walk/running a 5K June 1st, then hopefully run another 5K on Thanksgiving Day. I had joined a Couch to 5K last September and made it to week 8 mid October when I got a stress fracture to my ankle and had to drop out. I've been sedentary up until a April,…
  • I'm still a work in progress. I can't afford organic and I can barely afford to eat clean, it's so expensive. Not to mention, I am far from being a chef or great cook for that matter. I'm trying to make small changes a little at a time. Right now I have a Green Smoothie for breakfast, then a hard boiled egg for snack (also…
  • Feel free to add me! I just turned 48! I joined about a month ago, but wasn't on here again until a few days ago. Going to try to do better.
  • Roanoke, VA:smile:
  • Hoping to find other like minded 40 somethings in the same boat and those that are successful. just turned 48 a few days ago, and I'm hoping to one day be 40, Fit and Fabulous! Hard to imagine it right now though. I have a hard time with food because I LOVE to eat! I hate chicken breast and fish, absolutely can't stand…
  • Eating healthy has been my biggest problem. I hate chicken breasts and fish. I've tried them both all kinds of different ways and just hate them. I've never ate a chicken breast that wasn't dry to me. So chicken & fish is out! I mostly drink all water everyday, but occasionally drink a glass of tea. I do have 2 cups of…
  • I am 47, soon to be 48. Losing weight now is much harder than it was in my 20's and 30's. I was actually a fitness buff around 34 years of age. But once I hit 40 and every year since, I have steadily gained weight, starting feeling worse and worse, and it has gotten harder to exercise. I believe I am also starting…
  • Height: 5'5" Age/Gender: 47/Female Highest Weight: 185 pounds Current Weight: 185 pounds Lowest Weight: 140 pounds (Years ago in my 20's I was trying to gain weight! Was 105!) Goal Weight: 130-150 pounds I feel and look more miserable now than I ever have. About 4 years ago I went from 174 to 150 and looked and felt pretty…
